Much too far from the waves
Hey guys

As you may know, I have been rocking the nexus for sometime now, and for the most part it has been good. Although during that entire time, I have had numerous glitches, bugs and restarts. Most of that stuff was minor and unimportant, but over time these things have turned into major annoyances. The force restarts are the worst. Over the last 5 days I have had 3 to 4 restarts in a day and to me, that's unacceptable. That coupled with the spotty lte, abysmal battery life and over heating, I'm done. I owned the razr for about a month and am actually missing it. So my question is, how hard will it be to get Verizon to give me back the razr? I don't want another nexus, or rezound or anything. I want the one phone that I owned to just work...

i guarantee you there are plenty of Razr owners who would happily swap over to a nexus. post on your local craigslist and you will have a Razr by the end of the day.

however, doing this voids your warranty through verizon, but insurance is still good.

Is this really possible? It seems a little TOO easy. Plus i feel like it would be tough to get a near perfect condition white razr.

I think I would be looking into the apps that are causing some of your problems. I have never once had a restart or over heating with the phone I got on launch day. No battery issues either.

The problem i run into is the fact that ive factory reset the thing about 5 times amd removed most apps that I THOUGHT caused problems. And Im usually VERY careful with my app downloading. I only download what i need amd the ocassional game off the top apps list. That way i know im safe.

absolutely possible. i have bought 3 different phones off craigslist and activated them at the store. Just do the swap at a verizon store (you will probably need to go there anyway since i am not sure if the Razr uses a micro Sim or not.

but as long as the Razr has a clean ESN, the swap will only take like 10 minutes at the store and wont cost a thing.

and i just checked my local CL (orlando area) and there were 4 different listings for white Razrs, only one had a defect. shouldn't be too hard.
just put a post out there and people will Jump at the deal.

Isnt it just as easy as swapping out the sim card? They both use a standard sim and from what i remember, verizon just swapped out the sims when i initially traded in the razr.

How safe is cl too? Im a bit afraid i might get screwed over on weqther the phone works or is stolen or aomething like that.

it may be that easy, i just dont know what kind of SIM the Razr takes. the nexus takes a micro sim...if the Razr takes the same on, yes, you can just swap SIM cards i believe.

if you know what to look for, CL is pretty safe. that is why i said to meet up a verizon though. they can easily check to see if a phone has a clean ESN (if it is reported stolen the ESN is not clean) also, meeting in person (public place) lets you get your hands on the other device, make sure it makes calls, sends texts, gets data, takes pics, ect.

i have done this for a few phones in the past and haven't had any issues at all. i feel completely comfortable buying phones off CL. its ebay, where i can't physically see the ESN number and call it in on my own that worrys me a bit.

My guess is that it isn't an app that is causing your problems. I've had 3 GNexs and they have all been different no matter what apps I had loaded. First one was perfect until a blown speaker. #2 had lots of problems, my current one has annoying issues but not as bad as #2.

If I were you I'd contact Verizon and let them know your problems. Even though you're past your trial period you want your phone to work. It might take a couple calls but you will probably find a rep willing to make the trade you want.

I went to verizon and they decided to swap meet out for a new nexus. It's not exactly what I wanted but it's better than nothing. It should b at my house tomorrow. I still would prefer to have a razor and they tried to swap the new one. I just need to someone who would like to swap with me. I know I sound like I'm crazy give up on the nexus but there are too many problems that I just cannot overlook. The battery camera and random reboots are the biggest problems

Just FYI...I never thought my phone was rebooting either. I now leave it on my desk in front of me while at work. I'll see it do it 1-2x a day. It boots right back up and I would normally not notice but I SEE it. So if your phone is in your pocket, you may not see it rebooting. Just a thought.

i know the topic has been beaten to death, but have you looked into Rooting and using a custom ROM?

finding the right ROM/kernal combo will get rid of your reboots, increase your battery life, and the 4.0.4 update has made the camera slightly better IMO.

just a though if you like the phone, might as well take advantage of the tools you have in front of you. unlocking the bootloader is easy, quick, and completely reversable. flashing a custom ROM is simple. and if you do this on day 1, it makes it even better. at least look into it to see if its something you would be interested in.

I have seriously thought about it, especially since Ive done it on several other phones. But honestly, the whole feel of the phone is off. I have been trying to like it since I got it, and it just doesnt fit. The specs, screen and look of the phone are nice, but the Razr just felt so much better. Even with the less than stellar screen and Motoblur skin.

Im still a little torn between what I should do. On one hand, I do enjoy the phone and willing to give it another chance (Although battery is a bit of a kicker), but honestly I would MUCH prefer the Razr back. The biggest problem is just getting back to it. I could complain to Verizon again, but I feel a little guilty if the new phone has little problems. I could do a straight trade with someone via Craigslist or local listings, but that seems like a bit difficult to get it all taken care of. Plus I feel Verizon would have a problem with me swapping phones with other people. So I am at a bit of cross roads.

I'm almost certain there isn't an app causing the really really bad signal reception.

Fixed it for you. :)

I do not get bad cell reception...I get bad 3g reception. I have not had an issue being in areas where I could not make phone calls with decent reception.

Just this past weekend though, I went camping in central PA and a Razer, Droid2, iphone 4 and iphone 4S were all able to get SOME 3g. It wasn't strong but they were able to check facebook and look at Rainy Days radar map. I was not able to get a signal at all...couldn't even use my navigation and had to rely on them for directions. That pissed me off!

May require giving some of the hire reps a reach around, to be honest. Seriously. Verizon are the worst about swapping phones. I personally don't see what the big deal is, and I wouldn't mind paying a small fee for doing it. Their intent should be to make the customer happy, but we all know that's a thing of the past with most iron fist companies these days.

Indeed, I would be willing to slap down 50 or so dollars to get a phone that is similar to what I currently have. Its not technically an "upgrade" more of a side grade.

Personally I've never had any problems with Verizon reps swapping phones or any other issue (besides them just being generally clueless about their products). But if you don't make any headway with them my next suggestion would be to use eBay or Craigslist or the classifieds here.

I am also having an increasing # of issues with my nexus and I am considering the Razr Maxx. Found one on Craigslist for $400 and it looks like I can get rid of the nexus for at least that much on eBay.
