Time warner cable live TV is now available for ICS.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work on rooted devices.

Because you know, you might be able to "steal" their content and save it for later! Nevermind those VHS, DVD-R, TV-tuner and DVR things.

Seriously though, I can't imagine why they would prohibit root on an app like that for any other reason.

Most people that are not too familiar with Android see the word root and the only thing that cones to mind is hack. Since the only thing that people ever hear about hacking is the illegal stuff in the news, hacking is bad.

Root = Hack = All the bad things in the cyber world.

In this case, it may have to do with their provisions to ensure that a user actually subscribes to TWC. If the security is poorly written the blocking Root users may be an effort to control who uses what.

rooted users will eventually find a back door to this and exploit TWC's mistake. and we will have it. it may not be TWC as they develop the application on the standard version that carriers have, however rooting does nothing but give you administrative rights to your device, so they would have to implement a tool to prevent a rooted user from browsing.

it may be TWC doing this, give it time and you will see a work around for it. we always do

I once had a man who was severely uneducated and who fixated on that I was "good with computers" (he did work for my dad) ask me, "So can you do that illegal thing they do on computers?" I was like.. what? I finally realized that "hacking" was the word he was looking for. I tried to tell him that hacking in and of itself wasn't illegal in any way, that you can hack the software in a phone, camera, etc. And that "hacking" was only an illegal thing if, well, it was used to commit a crime. Then I saw the look on his face and remembered who I was talking to, and simply said, "no, I can't".

LOL I've had that conversation on more than one occasion with a couple of different people. I once mentioned that I hacked my phone to a coworker and he reported me to my manager for doing something illegal. My manager was the head of IT so he just rolled his eyes.

I posted this question on XDA, if an answer exists it will likely be answered and solved there but I will post here just in case.

My iPad 2 is jailbroken and I have a tweak that allows me to fool TWC into believing that I am home without being at home allowing me to watch my TCW anywhere. I am looking for the code but it was something like ****timewarner . . . .

I hope someone figures out how to do this with my phone. Watching on a tiny screen in my home isn't that great.

"So can you do that illegal thing they do on computers?"

An old coworker of mine, who was a bit of an idiot had a "Hobbies" section of his resume. He listed "Hacking the Internet" as one of his hobbies.

The guy was 35 years old, and he thought it was appropriate to have hacking as a hobby on his resume while he applied for IT jobs. It's no wonder he never got any call-backs.

Some years later he was arrested for selling counterfeit steroids, I believe, so I guess it's just as well that he put a big warning sign on his resume for future employers.

The person who made the apk/build.prop fix said he would work on it.
