After applying the latest update to my Stock Evo 4g, it kept power cycling.

It would reach the first screen of the "HTC Evo 4G" and reboot.

Tried clearing storage, recovery, etc. To no avail.

It does say the following however:

Supersonic Evt2-3 Ship S-On
HBOOT-2.18.0001
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_16ac
RADIO-2.15.00.12.19
Dec 21 2011, 12:50:32

It then flashes:

pc36diag.zip
No Image!

pc36diag.nbh
No image or wrong image!

pc36IMG.zip
No Image!

pc36IMG.nbh
No image or wrong image!

So my question, is there any way to replace these files? Again, this evo is stock and I would like to keep it that way if possible.

Thanks,

Thanks,

what you are seeing is normal. the bootloader is programmed to do that. you are not missing any files. it is searching for certain file names and if it does not find it then it will give you that message.
try this:
1.select recovery from the bootloader menu. you should get a red triangle with and exclamation mark.

2.next press and hold both vol down and vol up while pressing power. this will take you to the stock recovery.

3.select wipe cache ( i think the option is for dalvik cache as well, do not remember, sorry)

4.reboot

hopefully that will work. if not then you can try this:
1.download this ruu:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8709935/PC3...15.00.12.19_nv_2.33_release_234563_signed.zip

2.right click on the file and rename the file by deleting the everything in the name but the PC36IMG part.

3.move the file onto the card. you will need a card reader for this. or use another phone to get the file over to the card. do not put the file in a folder. it needs to be just on the card.

4.power off or pull the battery out and in. then press and hold power+vol down.

5.if it is name right and on the card then the bootloader will find it and ask you if you want to update. select yes.

hopefully this will work. let us know how that goes for you.

The first option did not work. When I select recovery, it instantaneously goes to the HTC Evo 4G splash screen, and begins cycling again. I do not see a triangle.

I will try your second option now.

The 2nd step worked perfectly! Thank you so much! You are a God among men. Appreciate it.

Yeah I have thought about it, but don't really know the benefits. Ill have to do more research :)
well the benefits are:
1.you will get better battery (YRMV though). i can get almost two days worth of use on my phone.
2.better performance (overclocking)
3.you can get rid of bloatware or you could flash a custom rom that has it removed
4.you can flash roms that have sense 2.1, sense 3.0, and sense 3.5 (these are something that our evos will never get)
5.you can really customize and theme your evo by flashing themes and mods
6.WE HAVE ICS (ice cream sandwhich) roms!!!!!!! they are still in either alpha or beta stages at this point. they have almost everything working.
7.you have more ways to troubleshoot an issue.
8.you can partition your card so that you can move all of your apps onto your card. the built in feature does not move the entire app, only part of it gets moved. however, if you are rooted you can move the whole app to the card and thus freeing up ram on your phone. i have 160 apps and they are all on my card and i have 220 mb's or so left in my phone!!!!!
9.you can customize your splash screen (the white htc screen)
10.you can customize your bootanimation (the sprint animation that comes after the splashscreen)

rooting your phone can really show you what potential the evo. it is a shame that htc and sprint has put such a limitation on the phone. rooting frees you of them. plus the cool thing is that the dev community is still supporting this device. it is a one of a kind community which no other phone will ever see.

anyways rooting is not for everyone.....so the choice will be up to you.

This is a great conversation, I too am having reboot issues with my 4g htc evo. I'm a newb and sometimes it reboots 15 times a day. The only thing I see is a message pertaining to qik.. I'm really not certain as to why this is happening.. And suggestions? Thanks in advance, I'm very tired of this phone..

ocnbrze,

Thanks a ton for your suggestions. My friends stock, unrooted HTC EVO 4G was stuck in a boot loop after accepting the latest OTA update. She had some instability, dropped calls, etc., before getting stuck in the boot loop. I tried to save her settings but I was not able to. In the end, I updated using the PC36IMG.zip file you provided. It essentially factory reset her phone but at least it works.

Thanks again!

When I tried the taco root method, everytime I get to the system update for the pcimg file, my evo shuts down. When I try to boot it, it gets stuck on the htc evo 4g screen. I tried the dropbox download with the same result. What should I do?

Post this question in the "All Things Root" subforum for more appropriate advise.

I have the same problem and I tried your second solution and flashed with the file that you provided but unfortunately it still freezes on the boot screen and then goes to a black screen with a circle of 2 green arrows and then reboots. It appears stuck in this cycle.

do you have any other suggestions or idea that I can try?

Thanks

I am currently encountering the same issue. I have tried both of your methods with no success.
I'm very tech savvy as I do root Androids as well as work with computers and Apple devices. So go ahead and let's see what we can do?

Currently I get the following:

pc36diag.zip
No Image!

pc36diag.nbh
No image or wrong image!

pc36IMG.zip
No Image!

pc36IMG.nbh
No image or wrong image!

In my main menu my phone reads:

S-ON
HBOOT 2.18.001
MICROP 041f
Radio 2.15.00.12.19

This phone is not currently rooted.
I'm unsure if this will help, however months ago it would restart itself and factory reset on it's own numerous times.
Now it was rebooting itself, stuck at the 4G Splash screen and it will turn itself off and back on until it reaches the same point.

I have tried a factory reset through the recovery menu. I have cleared all cache and files on the phone.

I have also tried flashing the same firmware/update from my MicroSD Card to the phone with no success.

If you have any suggestion or tips to try, I'm open to it.
At this point, nothing can make the phone in a worst state than it already is.

Ahead of time, I thank you.

ok unfortunately since you are not rooted, the ruu i provided in this thread will not work. as the ruu is designed to update the phone to a more current state. you are on the latest ota with the software version 5.07.651.1 which at the moment does not have a ruu that can be used. so unfortunately there is not much you can do other then a factory reset or take it in to get looked at.

well you do not have access to recovery as you are not rooted and have the stock recovery. in the bootloader menu you can do a factory reset by selecting clear storage. other then that you might have to take the phone in.
