Root [Guide] How to root the Wildfire S with S-ON

Noooo!!!! That would defeat the purpose of the backup because you'd lose all your data.

Yes, backup up your stock ROM now so you can revert to it's current state later if you have problems.

Whenever flashing a custom ROM, do a factory reset and clear all cache. There is a mini procedure at the bottom of the guide.
Great!! that means i dont have to go through the process of installing all my apps again... Thanks man...

Aaaahhh I had the same problem!! :) veeery simple solution

1.) Download Root Explorer
2.) Enable Root Mode/Mount System
3.) Navigate to /system/
4.) Create a new folder called 'sd'
5.) Ensure you're phone has at least 50% of battery
6.) Reboot and try the backup again.

ES File Explorer is free and does a lot more than move files around. It's now one of the best apps for am rooted device.

BTW, I've never worried about the sd-ext backup since the SD card is at no risk when flashing a ROM.

You can flash a custom kernel and overclock it.

OC Kernel for MarvelC: [KERNEL][MARVELC][A510c][SENSE] 2.6.35 Jmz Wildfire S OC Kernel 18FEB1

Use No Frills CPU from Google Play to overclock it once the kernel is flashed. If you have any problems, do a factory reset, wipe cache including dalvic and restore the nandroid backup.
But mine is marvel ( GSM based ) Do you have anything for that??? also does overclocking reduce battery life??? can the phone b customized for underclocking when idle? (to improve battery life??

I believe that 1 must app is Link2SD. This will ensure that you will never haave any memory problem....EVER!!
As far as Marvel, I don't know much about Kernel but I do like the Cyanogen rom if you want to get rid of your Sense rom
+1 on both counts.

In that case, just install a custom ROM with OC kernel. The first one you should try is Cyanogen 7.1 as linked in step 5 of the guide.

i am confused can i root my WFS using htc supertoolv3 is it still working for 2.14.707.2 software?pls help tnx a lot:afraid:
Supertoolv3 works with any Android version or ROM. No need to be afraid. Rooting is not that risky. If you've unlocked your phone's bootloader, the hard work is done ;)

If you follow the guide carefully, there is a minimal chance that you'll brick the phone. And if you do, since your phone is S-ON, it will likely be a recoverable soft brick meaning you can re-flash a stock HTC ROM from recovery.

hw cn i do tht backup for tht recovery
n which ruu should i download bcz mine is not in the list of htcdev and my wfs is 2.3.3 does it create any prblm

Hi, sorry but another nood abit stuck.:)

basically i've done all steps upto and including 4b using supertools and it says my phone is rooted and i rebooted the phone using the command in the app. ( i also have completed unlock siccessfully and get **UNLOCKED** on boot menu)

i then installed Superuser app by ChainsDD but Link2sd tells me i have no root access. so i then tried the alternative way which is to here
http://androidforums.com/wildfire-s-all-things-root/399076-guide-how-root-wildfire-s.html
but when i boot with the PG76IMG.zip file in root i get the error 'CID Incorrect root failed'

Any ideas where i can go from here? cheers

Happy days :) all working fine now!! i was able to skipped the step where i was getting the CID error and go straight to uploading the root.zip, boot into recovery and run the root.zip to do the actual rooting. Great guide. now the comes the fun bit...

was reading somewhere about an android 4 mod for the WFS. any ideas if and when a stable release will be available?
