i ave made a script to change the rtsp and httppd proxy settings.
since the newer roms dont have dial menus this will change the proxy settings from the data programing (##3282#) menu.
This should give you a 20%-30% speed increase in 3G. To revert to the default proxy download the default proxy file and folow the same instructions.
Note: if you dont see any difference you might already have the settings changed.

File Download
proxy

Default Proxy settings
DEFAULT_PROXY

instructions:
save script to sd card
-open root explorer
-copy script from sd card
-navigate to :system/etc/init.d/
-mount as r/w
-paste the script in:system/etc/init.d
-long press and select permissions
-make sure all boxes are checked under permissions
-reboot and post results

I can confirm this is working.

I ran a test a few days ago at 2am where network use is sparse.

Download: 439kbps// Upload: 598kbps// Ping: 156ms

Here is speeds as of 1:30am where network use is sparse.

Download- Worst: 600kbps// Best: 1100kbps
Upload- Worst: 450kbps// Best: 602kbps
Ping- Worst: 189// Best: 173

I haven't done much day time testing but i will during this week.
Here's what I got from a few tests today

Average day time speeds: (after) 200kbps - 400kbps
Average day time speeds (before): less than 200kbps

Thanks ftcortes :D

yes i would like to know answer to this too. and if doesn't work will everthing continue to work normal with proxy change??

Can you make a script to change them back if it doesn't work. Other than that, the only way to reset the defaults are to reset the phone or flash back to rooted stock, correct??

should i copy the setting that is there and use that if doesn't work??

i uploaded a file with the default settings. follow the same instructions.

I ran getprop and

[net.cdma.rtsp.proxy.addr] [0.0.0.0]
[net.cdma.rtsp.proxy.port] [0]
[net.cdma.httppd.proxy.addr] [0.0.0.0]
[net.cdma.httppd.proxy.port] [0]

was already set even before I ran the script. Weird.

yea you had probably already done it using the dial menus. but sine newer roms dont have hidden menu this script works on them. it saves the hassle of having to revert to old roms and back.

I ran getprop and

[net.cdma.rtsp.proxy.addr] [0.0.0.0]
[net.cdma.rtsp.proxy.port] [0]
[net.cdma.httppd.proxy.addr] [0.0.0.0]
[net.cdma.httppd.proxy.port] [0]

was already set even before I ran the script. Weird.

Odd on my CM7 these settings are not showing up. I wonder if they are using the predefined settings and that's why its not showing up using getprop.

Would this affect my download at all on CM7?

you could try adding them to your build.prop but im not sure if it will work. or you can do a speed test with out the script. then add the script and do another test to see if it helps.
