The word amazing is used far too often.

In almost every thread, there is someone saying, this ROM is amazing, this phone is amazing, battery life is amazing, etc.
I searched this forum for the word and 8 pages came up.

I've actually grown to hate the word, and apparently I'm not alone.
There are many websites and organizations that would love to have it banned.

AMAZING

Received the most nominations. LSSU was surprised at the number of nominations this year for "amazing" and surprised to find that it hadn't been included on the list in the past. Many nominators mentioned over-use on television when they sent their entries, mentioning "reality" TV, Martha Stewart and Anderson Cooper. It seemed to bother people everywhere, as nominations were sent from around the US and Canada and some from overseas, including Israel, England and Scotland. A Facebook page

I'm quite surprised: I had no idea some people disliked that word! I think it's nice, I never really noticed it being overused.

What amazing word could be used to replace "amazing"? Wouldn't it become amazingly overused as well...are you proposing that people expand their amazing vocabularies and come up with multiple amazing replacements for the word "amazing"? Now if that were to happen I would be amazed....

Okay, here's the deal: I don't hate the word *amazing*, I hate its overuse. Amazing(and amazed) is an insidious word that has worked its way into the American psyche. It isn't insidious for what it means, but for the monopoly it holds over words like terrific, spectacular, glorious, et cetera.

Now, you might not have noticed it, but the next time you watch TV or listen to a conversation, note how many times you hear *amazing* or *amazed*. It will be the word used more often than not to describe anything fantastic, incredible, or delicious. I don't object to the use of the word, even if it's wasted ("These paperclips are amazing."), but I grit my teeth in frustration when most EVERYONE uses *amazing* to the exclusion of most ALL OTHER SYNONYMOUS WORDS. It's especially annoying to see it popping up in a lot of TV ads. Iknow writing ad copy isn't exactly a brain trust of a job, but you'd think someone out there would have athesaurus. And that's what makes it insidious.

lol, I just think they just wanted to annoy you. When you tell people you *hate* something. They go out of their ways to do just that to get under your skin.

I'm never bothered by the word amazing. I use it sporadically. I like the word FANTASTIC!

Woah, radical dude! The issue is words fall in and out of use and overuse then into obscurity...it is just how it is man. You got to stay jive and hip. Right now amazing may be the bag for all the peeps but yo that shiznick won't last forever. Soon amazing will be wack not rad and you will have a new part of diction to hear too much. Need to introduce you to the many folks that PM'd me that sike isn't a misspelling a psych (yes, it is) and that it was coined in the 90s or 70s (take your pick, it was coined in the 60s) and that I either a) don't seem to understand it's meaning, it's too new for me (uhhhhhhh... ok) or b) don't seem to realize that it was around long before me (uhhhhhhh... thanks?).

So it's almost as if your saying that terms drop in and out of popularity and I had an example of the confusion about that.
