Screen protectors - 3 month retrospective

I went with the XO screen protector right after I got my nexus. I've recently had to get a replacement device, so I'm debating replacing the screen protector.

I liked the XO, it definitely protected the screen. The old device looks brand new. Didn't mind the rubbery feeling at all.

I did not like the difficulty of cleaning it, but wasn't too bothered by it.

I did not like the pock marks left in the protector from things like keys and fingernails. They weren't terrible but they were definitely a negative.

So now, three months in, wondering what other people think about their protectors and lack thereof.

mine has been naked for almost 4 months

if i look at it from a certain angle with the screen turned off i can see about 5 or 6 slight scratches which don't impair normal viewing at all

for comparison, my og droid was naked as well and had 1 or two small, but visible with the screen on, scratches

these are not like that, and I will continue to leave it uncovered

I picked up a 3 pack of protectors off ebay for $3, still looks like the day I put it on back on launch day. Perfect fit, seems to handle finger prints well, smooth as a babies butt and can be removed and put back on if needed. I just don't understand why people pay more than a few bucks for these things.

It's true alot of times you can get the cheapo protectors and they are just as good, if not actually the same ones as the expensive ones. Sometimes though you get the cheapo ones and they are useless. It is a crap shoot alot of times so some people just decide to spend more one time and know they are getting quality.
I got a 3 pack of cheap ones from the Verizon store when I got my GNex (cuz I had too). They were still $12.99 because it was at the Verizon store. Ebay prolly has 'em for $3, but they work great and I am still on the first one.

+1 on Zagg. Good as new and is in my pocket with keys a lot. Also, rarely gets smudges and easy to clean when it does.

The Zagg protector on my Eris lasted nearly 2 years. If I say so myself, that's a pretty damn long time for a little piece of plastic to cling to a phone! Actually, it seemed to have yellowed a bit. :s: After using it for so long I think I smoothed out some of the bumps that some people complain about. :D

Not so sure I'm liking the one that's on my Nexus though that I got from VZW. Seems to scratch pretty easy unlike the Zagg one did. I suppose if this one ever falls off I know who I'm going back to.

Do they fit the whole screen? Dry application or wet? Got a link?

I had the Zagg on this phone and on my previous one. I switched to XO and could not be happier. No rubbery feeling or yellowing like the Zagg. I can hardly tell the XO is even there.

For those that say they have been running this thing naked for months and it is as good as new. Impossible, granted, the light scratches are only noticeable at certain viewing angles, but trust me they are there. My gf doesn't have a screen protector on hers and it is covered in micro scratches.

The XO skin is worth every bit of what I paid for it.

Possible, the few scratches on mine have absolutely no impact on my viewing pleasure, sorry to disappoint

No, they aren't. Tilt either of my phones at any angle you want with a back light to show up any imperfections and they are flawless. My Inc was and my GNex is used heavily.

I wonder if it had to do not just with usage, but environment, People who live in areas with more abrasive dirt, or wear rougher/tighter clothes, etc.

Just inspected mine with screen off and bright light on it, not a single mark that doesn't rub off.

I wondered that too. Like if you live in a sandy region the odds of a scratch would go way up, you'd think.

You'd think that, but I live at the beach in FL, and my GNex stays in my pocket (admittedly by itself) biking to the beach, days at Disney, work, school, etc...and it's flawless.

I put the Steinheil Flexes on my Nexus in January and last week I discovered a huge gouge in it... right in the middle of the screen! I have no idea where the gouge came from, as I baby my phone and it's either in my holster or at bedside as my clock at night.

I put the second one in the pack on and, despite their claims that small air bubbles will dissipate after a few days, the air bubbles persist.

Anyway, not too happy a camper with the Flex. I'm going to have a go with the XO skins and we'll see if they fare any better.
