Root [ROM 2.1] Bugless Beast v0.8 (ESE53 Base)

I just jumped from BB 1.1 (2.0.1) with adamz kernel to BB .7 (2.1) with chevy's kernel, and 5 slots. First impressions are a big jump in responsiveness, and runs a lot cooler so far. It used to be when using the browser I could guarantee my hand almost burning, and haven't noticed any problems so far. The only glitch was when I installed the facebook app, then got two reboots, on one 1x only connection, then a reboot to "normal"...and everything is running great now. VERY pleased with this move.

Oh, and livewallpapers interactive rocks!!

Has anyone noticed that BB 0.7 only has 4 homescreens? Is this a factor of using the smoked glass theme? Pete doesn't say anything but I just noticed his screenshots are of only 4 screens. Weird, wonder why he removed one?

My guess is he only posted 4 screenshots. If I remember, 0.7 did have 5 screens as most of the newer ESE53 based releases.

I can also confirm that BB 0.7 has 5 screens, with or without the theme. Version 0.5 only had 3 screens, but Pete changed that in the 0.6 release t o 5 screens. This ROM works great!

Ok, so far since I last posted I've had one issue of the phone not waking up when I push the top button. The home row lights come on, but no screen or sound, meaning I needed to pull the battery. This is my only issue so far, but it has happened twice.

This might be due to an app I have installed, or it could be due to live wallpapers as when I came back from boot the stock wallpaper was active even tho I had live wallpapers active before.

you also might want to look at your setcpu profiles if you are using it. If you have the max for sleep set to low it can cause problems with waking the phone back up.

Gotta say I'm a complete idiot. Found out that I was using screen 2 for my "home" screen, and didn't know why I only had 1 to the left and 2 to the right (since I wasn't using #5). Moved everything over, and my conscience is restored

So does 0.8 have 3 home screens or 5? I would like wifi tether but will not sacrifice 2 screens for it...

since it is the next Revision, I would say it has 5 screens

I will wait a few days personally before updating.. v0.7 seems to be working good for me. not sure I want to go through the update stuff again.

I would also have to reapply the smoke theme too

I read the change log on 0.8 and really didn't find anything compelling me to switch from SS except for the replacement of the phone app (has some nice new feature like vibrating every 45 seconds, blacklisting, and a few other goodies). Did a search, installed the phone app by itself and decided to go back to the original (some interface changes that were not my cup of tea like having to access mute through the menu key). I will keep SS 2.0.2 until boredom gets the best of me.

Was Pete's v 0.7 and below listed as "Stable" (as 0.8 is)? Because I just noticed that they're not in the change log. The reason I ask is that I haven't had any issues (besides live wallpapers crashing my phone) with 0.7 until last night when I was using navigation for a few hours and my phone crashed (totally restarted to the "M" icon) like 4 times while I was navigating. It was rather annoying and made me consider moving back to 0.7.6 which I've never had a crash with. I guess I'll go ahead and move to 0.8 though to see if stability issues are fixed. I'm using Chevy's 1.1 GHz kernel though, but even after backing down to 1 GHz, my phone still crashed last night (which I ran my phone at 1.1 GHz for several weeks without issue on BB 0.7.6).

So someone please let me know if they've used 0.7 with navigation without issues.

Thanks!

Edit: I just noticed that Chevy's OC kernels call for ERE25 builds only and I have the ESE53 installed. So I guess that might be causing instability? If that's the case, then Pete shouldn't be linking to Chevy's kernels on his BB 0.8 thread if this is going to be cause stability issues. Someone please chime in and let me know if they've been using Chevy's kernels with any issues on any BB ESE53 builds.

Ok?.. interesting. I notices last night that there were twoo udate.zips... one that left your running kernel intact and one that replaced it. Now I just see the one that replaces it. Although it states that there are options to select not to flash over the exiting kernel... sort of like a *.rom.tgz.

I DL the V0.08 update.zip and applied it and it did not give me options... obviously but did load Adamz ULV 600 kernel.

Also for those that applied the smoked glass update option this will revert it back to the stock theme.

5 screens so no worries there.

If your are running JIT enabled you will have to re-enable it.

Now this is where I'm confused... I checked the version number and it says V0.7 still... which is no big deal... but I'm not sure it was updates... or Pete just didn't change the ver update listing. I went back in and reapplied Adamz ULV 5 slot 1.2 and pushed the smoked glass theme back... but im not seeing the other changes?. I know I got the right update.zip... because it pushed the 600 kernel and reset my theme.

??... anyone else see similar results?.

EDIT: It you apply Pete's jitupdate.zip it will edit the version number in the build.prop which also edits the about info to look like pete's 0.7. I also pushed Jit onto SS and it did the same thing... jit worked... but it just changed the info in about to pete's 0.7

According to the BB FAQ: [FAQ] Bugless Beast 2.0.1 & 2.1

is wifi tethering enabled by default?
no. you will need to install one of the kernels above to enable it.

This may not, however be true anymore, but it seems that Pete has continued to follow this mode of development. So, a new kernel should solve both of your issues.
