Also when i drag the v5 off my computer into my sd card do i put it in the card root or in the nandroid folder? The only way it shows up is if its in the nandroid folder and i can choose to flash it but it will just say error. Also im not changing the folder name or anything, i dont get it. any ideas?

Go into your favorite file manager (astro, root explorer, or check from Windows) and check the structure of the subdirectory in the Nandroid folder. There should be the directory of the file you want to flash containing at least these 3 files in the root of that directory:
boot.img
nandroid.md5
system.rar

(you might have a data.tar and a few other miscellaneous files)
(they should not be in any further subdirectory).

Hope I didn't cause further confusion (I have not had my 3rd cut of coffee yet this morning)

The Smoked Glass v 5.0.1 needs to be saved as a .tgz.rom, make sure it is when you download it from alldroid.org and do not try to download it from the Google Chrome Browser or it won't work.

Here is the link the the page where it explains it all.

Then it needs to be in the root of you SD card.

Boot into recovery

Choose the "install" option

Choose "Choose ROM from SD card"

Select the Smoked Glas v 5.0.1.rom.tgz (or something to that effect)

Then follow the steps to flashing it onto your phone.

Hope this helps!!

is it supposed to be saved as .tgz.rom like you said or .rom.tgz like it says in the link?

Good flashing hygiene...

1- have a backup ready.
2- for Nandroid restores, check your directory structure first.
3- for best results, do a data wipe (yea, even with similar roms).
4- have plenty of beer at hand.
5- have an excuse ready when you are late for work.

Do you have any good suggestions? I have been late at least 5 times because of Droid related hacking. Luckily my boss is cool and he is into smartphones/tech (has a Storm and hates it lol).

We need a sticky "Top 10 excuses to stay home and play with our phones." When I know I am going to perform an all nighter I do a little prep work the day before (coughing and sneezing at the office usually helps). Most bosses are sympathetic to our plight. While "I had to drive my sick grandmother to the hospital" doesn't cut it, what tech savey boss can't relate to "I couldn't even think of coming to work until my tethering is working"???

Disclaimer: YMMV

Its supposed to be saved as a .rom.tgz

I got myself mixed up, but when you download it, it should download just like that. Don't unzip it or anything, just put it on the root of your SD card and boot into recovery and select it from there.

Sorry about the confusion!
