Us galaxy s2 users and the ics update!!!

Okay. So I noticed the Ics update has been released to some Galaxy S2 users in Europe. I heard sometimes US carriers don't release updates to their versions of the different android phones. My question is Would unlocking and/or rooting my phone enable me to get the update even if it is not released to GS2 users on my carrier?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket from at&t. Any help is appreciated.

AT&T will release an ICS update for the Skyrocket. This has been promised officially at launch. A beta has already circulated but I advice you to wait to get the official release. if you want, you can install the beta but this would overwrite everything. The official ICS update would not be "destructive".

Too bad this forum is so pg and yet it's so heavily moderated but it allows duplicate threads galore.

Am I the only one who is more disappointed with ICS on non-ICS built phones than the time it is taking to get ICS? There is very little to look forward to with 4.0 on the Skyrocket

The next thing to be excited about potentially is the GS3 or the iphone 5.

The ICS I ran was junk killed my LTE signal at my house, and in the other areas where I averaged over 20Meg down cut it down to 5 Meg down. Hope the official ICS works better.

The only thing I liked about ICS is that MMS showed up as pics instead of videos, happy with 2.3.6.
