Prompted with an upgrade today, but already on 4.0.4

So I'm running 4.0.4, completely stock, and today I got a system upgrade notification to install 4.0.4. Very odd.

I ran the install, but I don't see anything new. Here's a shot of the about screen:

Hi I too got this update notification (and discovered that I didn't have a recovery image installed) If I manage to install the update I'm happy to do a system pull if someone can link me to a step by step or FAQ.

I'm fairly confident with this kind of stuff :)

EDIT: Sadness I just checked for updates after flashing the recovery and it says I'm up to date but still on IMM76D

I did it too, and had no issues with the update. It is a sligtly newer build and fiixes dropped call issues and random losses of signal. It worked well for me, so far I notice that my phone is more consistent with the signal strenght than before, and the bars are not "greying out" like they used to all the time before.

also feels slightly smoother running the os in general..

Must be nice, 2 4.04 updates while VZW is still stuck on 4.02!!! Congrats. Maybe one day we will join you!!!!

P.S. I am not trying to sound disgruntled....did it work?
To be honest, no. :D

I'm frankly confused about why folks like VZW so much. Dragging the 4.0.4 update for months, data bandwidth limits and it costs more. As a long time Sprint customer the love of all things Verizon baffles me.

But then there are Cubs fans in the world too. I guess life is mystery.

Is there anyway to uninstall this update without reflashing and losing all my stuff? Cbf going through the whole backup and restore routine.

I suspect this update has made my reception worse....

Unfortunately there is really no good way to uninstall the update without doing a factory wipe and flashing the previous update manually via recovery.

To be honest, it is not a love for all things Verizon. When we signed up for Verizon, it was the only carrier that had service in the state we lived in....Maine. We were there for 5 years and now that we have moved, the fact that I have unlimited data (I generally use 5 gig a month :D and my wife is around 1-2 gigs) and some other things that I would lose prevents me/us from changing carriers. So, trust me, no love for Verizon lol, especially with the sitting on an update. Had the same issue with my Droid X lol.

fwiw every update will not be an addition to the version number. You could get multiple updates and still be on 4.0.4. These small updates are just patches and usually don't change the main version number.

It may be the same version number, but this incremental 4.0.4 patch fixed a major problem for 4.0.4 GSM users. People not rooted and stuck on 4.0.2 on VZW have major problems and we haven't even seen an official 4.0.4 update, let alone an incremental (and relatively timely) patch to fix a reported bug.
