Help Weird Camera Problem

Some time ago, I began having problems with the camera on my Desire, or, more specifially, some form of corruption with some of the photos taken.

The issue was not present before I rooted & installed a custom ROM, but the issue did not begin immediately after the installation of my first custom ROM, either & it is, apparently, random in that it doesn't happen to every picture & sometimes it can go for weeks without happening. It is also, interestingly, not present in the corresponding thumbnails.

I have given links to 3 samples of the corruption that is occurring (below) & wonder if anyone has any idea what might be causing this? The corruption is always in the same place when it occurs.
I have considered it might be some issue with the SD card, but would rather seek confirmation before trying a wipe & reformat, etc. Thank you

What ROM?
you could Nandroid, wipe, install another rom and see what happens.

Saves buying a new SD if it's not the problem.

I am currently on InsertCoin 1.1.4, but have tried a couple of others, although all have been Sense based.
I guess I kinda hoped that it was something that one of the more experienced people would recognise & be able to definitively identify.

Maybe I should wipe & try an AOSP, or go back to stock. Thanks again

Wouldn't bother with stock if I'm honest.
i would try that suggestion in my last post though.
Without having that problem myself at any point i can't say what it is for sure.

If it were one image, or different corruption in each, I'd suspect the card. It still could be. But similar corruption in different images is kinda odd.

Have you been using the same ROM for all of these?

You make some good points, as usual. These things have puzzled me, too - but I guess it could still be a corruption on a certain area of the SD card & it only shows when that (those) area is written to?
I was trying to remember which ROMs Ive tried, but Im a bit blonde (in some ways ). I vaguely recall reading something about the InsertCoin ROM porting something from the Desire HD for the camera, so maybe Ive only tried ROMs with the same thing.

As I said above, in response to Tyseyh, I am going to try reformatting the SD card first (when I get time) & will report back if there is any change.

As for trying a different ROM - any suggestions on a good one to use that is very stable, that doesnt involve changing boot tables, etc?

Have you changed your HBOOT at all?
If your wanting a sense rom I hear Teppics is nice and stable.
Requires a stock HBOOT.

Apologies for tardy response, but I had some pressing family issues, but thanks for taking the time to reply whilst on holiday, much appreciated!

I've wiped the SDcard & reformatted it, then reinstalled the most recent ROM I had (which wasnt the one I had when the issue first appeared), so will wait & see if the problem has gone, or not. If not, then I will investigate further into the ROM you suggested. Will come back & update either way (in case anyone else ever has a similar issue.)

Now I just need to work out why the stock sms app cant find the backup I did before wiping everything lol

I have problems with my camera corrupting at times. I've found that if I switch to airplane mode then all interference stops. It's an issue a couple of other people have had but it is unusual. It might be worth seeing if your problem is similar.

Is the corruption you get similar to the ones I linked to in the first post? If not, how is it different? It would be interesting to compare to see if there is any link. In the meantime I will try your airplane mode trick to see if it makes any difference.

As for my phone, I did some experimenting last night by taking lots of pictures one after the other & I had 1 corrupt picture. This picture was one that I took by tapping the screen immediately after taking another picture, to bring the camera back to the "ready" mode & immediately taking a picture.
I dont know if this is a red herring or if it may mean that there is some issue with not allowing time for it to be written, properly, to SDcard, or, even, if it might be that the SDcard itself is too slow (it is the card that came with the phone from HTC). If anyone has any thoughts on this, I would be interested to hear.

Just a quick post to update my progress.

I still had the issue after the wipe install of the CoinSense ROM, so, I decided to move away from sense & installed Mildwild's Oxygen based ROM. So far I have had no problems with the camera & am wishing I went to AOSP much, much sooner. Thanks for those that offered help in this thread
