Hey guys

I have a UK sim free Galaxy S2 which I recently updated to OFW 4.0.3

In 2.3.4 when I switched from mobile internet to wifi, it used to connect instantly to my home wifi

But in 4.0.3. it takes ages to authenticate etc, and sometimes takes around 30 seconds to a minute to actually connect?

This happens each time I try to connect to my home internet when I come in

Is there a fix for this?

Mine connects fine, same sim free etc....
Are there any other settings you changed during the wifi setup?

Nope, i've left everything the same!

Even deleted it from saved networks and retried but it's still extremely slow to connect.

Moreover, i'm fairly sure my phone battery is dying so much faster! I thought the battery was meant to be more optimised? RAM usage is much higer too!

Also wasn't there meant to be a spell checker or something?

Cosmetically ICS looks great but I wish my phone functioned somilar to 2.3.4 again!

Fast and seamless for me under 2.3.4, don't even remember seeing any wifi messages after the initial setup - it just connected and worked every time. Since the upgrade to 4.0.3 there's usually time for me to attempt to open something, receive a "no connection available" message (virtually zero mobile signal at home), then see the connected to wi-fi message appear. Been a few times where the handset has lost wifi and I've had to disable/enable to get it back.
There's work to be done in this area for sure.

Mine connects within a couple of seconds with ICS 4.0.3 update.

You might try changing some of your router settings such as the channel or frequency 2.4 vs 5Ghz. Usually wifi channel on the router is fixed, and the client searches for the right channel. Some walls, locations are better on one vs. another. There are about 10 channels (off the top of my head without looking it up).

Hey guys,

I had installed in 2.3.6 a useful application to analyze networks and channels and choose the best one. Its name was "Wifi Manager". I uninstalled it and now all my problems with the wifi have dissapeared.

Once updated to ICS 4.0.3, my main concern was that "Turning wifi on" forever message that I got until I rebooted the mobile and that I was only enabled to workaround by enabling hot-spot first.

As I told before, uninstalling Wifi Manager and rebooting the mobile did the work once and forever.

I hope it helps,

Jorge (Samsung Galaxy S II)
