This guide has been reposted from PPA, for the benefit of Phandroid members.

Here is the procedure for restoring the Huawei Ascend II back to stock. Proven working by a PPA member who tried installing CWM for the original Ascend on his Ascend 2 and b0rked his phone, yet through the magic of the stock ROM, recovered fully, none the worse for wear! Credit to vadim at PPA for finding and posting the files.

These instructions are taken directly from the PDF file bearing the instructions, which should also be in the file containing the stock ROM.

WARNING! This will wipe all data previously on your phone!

Source Thread Here

  1. Download the zip file with the stock ROM, and unzip it. LINK
  2. Copy the "dload" folder to the root of your SD card. This folder should have "update.app" inside it.
  3. Power off, then press Vol Down + Vol Up + Power. The installation should take place automatically. When "Upgrade Complete" appears on the screen, Pull the battery and the SD card from your phone.
  4. Replace your battery and boot the phone. This step may take a few minutes.
  5. Once fully booted, reinsert your SD card and delete the "dload" folder. You're done!

Will this work for MetroPCS users too? I have a MetroPCS phone that I updated the Android 2.2.2 OS from their @pp store but I was wondering if I could change it back to Android 2.1 since I'm having issues with the camera settings. If you can please help me out so I won't have to pay someone to do this for me, I would gladly appreciate it! Thank you! :)

what if i haven't restarted my phone yet? it is still on, flashed the recovery, then read this like "oh s#!t!"

I'm not clear on what you mean, you'll have to be a little bit more detailed about what you've done and where you are now.

Ok, like many others I'm new and need instructions for dummies. So I download the recovery(zip file) to my computer. I have that. My question is when I connect my phone to my computer do I need to put enable the usb on my phone?

You're on step 1 of 5. If you're familiar with transferring files from your PC to your phone, you're doing the same thing for step 2 of this guide. I don't have the A2 so I don't know how it prompts you for mounting USB storage, but whatever that process is, that's what you do, then transfer the aforementioned folder in the guide to your SD card.

Followed instructions to the letter for this way to downgrade but as with all others when i reboot with volume up+volume down and power to start I get the same 'update failed 1/2' I get everytime and have to pull the battery and put back to restart.

Huawei Ascend 2 with new upgrade to the stupid 'muve music' OS which I think is 2.3.5

I haven't tried this yet, but I'm willing to do anything to fix my phone. I have the Ascend II and when it did its update, it went to this stupid Muve Music BS. Now none of my apps work, it put apps on my phone that I don't want (flikr and twitter) AND it erased all of my contacts and everything-even AFTER backing everything up. Does this honestly work? I'm desperate to try anything before I take it back to my service provider and pay out the a** to have it fixed.
Email me if you have to: ashaleenjonefin@gmail.com
Thank you!!

Something worthy of note. The file included in that zip is spelled "updata.app", I'm assuming that's a mistake and should be re-named? :captain:
Can someone confirm or deny this? The file placed in the root of the memory stick should be named "update.app", correct? And since that dl has it named something else, can I simply just rename it? Or will that mess something up? Do I need to find a different download that is named "update.app" by default?

You could get a Micro SD card adapter. That's what I'm going to have to do. I found one at my local staples for $10, which includes an SD card adapter, and USB adapter.

Download the file, insert the SD card into your PC with one of the aforementioned adapters, and you should be good.

I haven't done it, so I'm not 100% positive, but I sure hope this is the case, since my phone is also stuck on the logo screen, and need to fix it. :call:

Alright, I went ahead and tried the default. Though it does state the file included is "update.app", the file included is "updata, app", and that file DOES WORK. I didn't bother renaming it, since it worked as is, so I don't know if it would make a difference if you renamed it or not. But it worked fine.

Now, another question.

I flashed my phone to stock. It remained rooted. I installed a few apps, and have been using it where I find WiFi. If I were to call my cell company and try to get the phone re-activated on my plan, would they somehow delete everything? Or would that only be if I went into a US Cellular store?

My contract with them is about to end, so if they delete everything, I'll just save myself the trouble, keep my rooted phone, use it as a WiFi device.

If they can re-activate it just over the phone and don't know about what I have installed on my phone, I'll do it for the few weeks.

for those still having a huawei rooting issue.
heres what i did.
*note* for cricket phones dont know if this works for metro sorry.
step 1

  1. Download the zip file with the stock ROM, and unzip it. LINK
  2. Copy the "dload" folder to the root of your SD card. This folder should have "update.app" inside it.
  3. Go to settings then storage and scroll to the bottom and select software upgrade and let the phone run its course. A proper downgrade removes the muve boot logo and leaves you with cricket logo.
  4. check to see if your at 2.3.3 if so continue to section 2
CREDIT TO BLASTGT1 FOR PARTIAL INFO. HIS WAY DOES NOT WORK FOR 2.3.6 PHONES

step 2

1- dl the zip that Vadim posted in the roms and mods section. LINK

2- connect your phone via usb (or use an sd card adapter). In your pull down menu, hit mount (or connect) to usb

3- choose the correct drive that your phone is connected to (make sure that you can see your camera folder etc.)

4- don't open the zip that you have just downloaded, place the entire zip on the main "menu" (root) of your sd card.

5- disconnect your usb cable and wait for your phone to finish preparing sd card. (you'll see that in your notification bar)

6- power your phone off.

7- hold volume up and push and hold power until your phone boots into recovery. (about 5-10 seconds)

8- using your volume buttons, scroll to update from sd card and press power to select.

9- scroll to the "update.zip" that you placed in your sd card and select.

10- reboot and tadaa! Your rooted enjoy!

11- THANK VADIM FOR POSTING THIS ZIP I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THESE I MERELY SIMPLIFIED THE PROCESS

I HOPE THIS HELPS EVERYONE AS I HAD TO TRACK THESE DOWN AND LEARN MYSELF

PLEASE STICKY FOR NOOBS

Thanks for this - unfortunately, it does not work for those of us who are Straight Talk customers, as it appears the routines for fastboot have been commented out, and we do not have the ability to disable signature verification for update files in Recovery. If someone can figure out how to do this, we're golden.
