Help Copying text using the Note- HELP!!!

I am not sure if this is specific to the Note, but am I the only one who feels completely frustrated when it comes to attempting to copy text from websites, or emails?

I don't know even where to begin to describe how unintuitive and frankly, nearly impossible, it is to do this most basic of function.

IMHO, copying text should be no more difficult than long pressing anywhere at the start or end of any text i would want to copy and then dragging to the finish point, remove finger, then menu comes up with copy/cut/paste, etc as applicable to the application. That's what would happen in an any sane world.

But on the Note, if i am "lucky" (it doesnt work with Dolphin browser at all, my default browser), i get an option to select word or entire doc, or some such b******s, even if i am no where near a "word" when I long press to select.

Then it seems to select a word or part thereof in some random position in the document with completely unusable "wings" to finely tune the selection - haha, what a joke! I stab and swipe uselessly at these "wings" & occasionally they will move, usually in the opposite direction to that intended, or disappear completely, leaving me with rising adrenalin and recourse to simply giving up and/or waiting to be able to get onto my PC to do the job.

I love the phone to bits, but this frankly appalling state of affairs is the single most frustrating aspect for me bar none.

Am i the only one trying to use this phablet as a business tool which needs frequent copy and pasting? Or am I missing something? Is there a fix? Will ICS help when it finally arrives?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

double click word, word got highlighted, move the circles to highlight word that needs to be copy pasted, then pick copy and paste it somewhere else.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread video walkthrough (NFC, copy/paste)

Finally, Gingerbread also offers up a snazzy new text selection and copy/paste tool. No longer will you have to tap around your text box, trying desperately to get that tiny little cursor to drop in just the right place to correct an error. Simply tap on the text and a large, orange-colored cursor arrow will pop up. You can then drag the cursor to any position in the text in order to delete or add text as you see fit. Or, if you

Having used Windows CE devices for a long time before going to Android with the HTC Desire two years ago (and more recently to an Archos Honeycomb (now ICS) tablet) I can see myself using the stylus a lot. I find using the text selection tabs via finger tips hit and miss, but the stylus should make this a doddle. Not speaking from experience on the Note yet, though as mine doesn't arrive until tomorrow.

Yeah, copy/paste on Android is pretty sucky compared to iOS. It's just so elegantly easy in iOS. I hope it's a lot better with 4.0 ICS.

I heard that there wasn't even a cut/copy/paste tool in iOS until iOS 3 in 2009.

Selecting text is the hard bit on Android, but to make it easier just magnify the text. Works fine for me.

I just went to test this on the stock browser. Long press on a word, it highlighted and offered me the option to copy along with the ability to move the start and end of highlighted text. It was very easy to use. The obvious issue was if the text was part of a link but that's an issue in any browser even on the PC.

Well, I have had my Note for a few hours and I'm finding text selection in the stock browser a breeze. The selection tabs are very finger friendly and they change size as you zoom the display to maintain their controllability. Best implementation I have seen yet. :)

On the other hand - how do you select text in the text messaging app? Not worked that out yet!

If it's an old message you can copy the whole message text with long press.

If it is in a message you are editing then the selection is the same as elsewhere.

Thanks - actually one of the first messages I received was from T-Mobile via MMS. Long pressing a MMS message doesn't generate a copy text option, oddly. Works fine on a SMS text, but I'd like to have had the option of selecting a portion of the text instead of the whole message. I guess the system will recognise phone numbers and let you copy those individually?

Hi guys!

update... i heard a rumour from my cousin (who has a google nexus) that ICS solves the problem. So... after much deliberation i decided to root my note and install an ICS rom.

Phew... some scary moments later, and much reconfiguration, I can say it work really well.

The general interface is possibly better than Gingerbread, but the copy function is MUCH MUCH BETTER!! It works intuitively and automatically highlights a word for selection if you long press, with the menu coming up for copy, cut , etc appearing at the TOP of the screen.

On the negative front so far, ICS does not seem to recognise WMA files at all.

But as a business tool, it's definitely better with ICS just for the Copy function!

On my Archos 80 G9 tablet when it was running Honeycomb the text selection was all over the place and the cursor sometimes didn't ever go where I wanted it to, but that has all been fixed in ICS. This is a 1GHz dual core device with only 0.5GB of RAM and with ICS it runs much better, so with 1.4GHz dual core and 1GB RAM the Note should run beautifully under ICS. I feel it's actually quite good running Gingerbread.

yes its running fine. Stable; at least for primary business work, emails skype and webbrowsing. Video's not working tho, which is a downer. It has a very snazzy panorama mode however which almost compensates for this!

I just tried the panorama stitcher - not bad at all for an in-camera tool, although I have not yet found a camera stitcher that is foolproof.

What is the problem you are having with video? There is some lip-sync problem with Flash videos I have noticed (also on the tablet), but YouTube video quality is very good.

Actually, the note goes through the motions of videoing (no pun intended) then just seems to fail to store the output anywhere :-(.

Found a solution for WMA files - POWERAMP will play them! This is great as it's one of the best players out there. I can live with that :)

Overall the benefits are greatly outweighing the lack of vid. I can now relax and wait for the official release of ICS

So till now nobody give a solution to this issue?
