Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

I'm not sure this would be helpful. I think there is a percentage of energy loss each time you change the state of energy (discharge / charge) so you may be lowering the overall life of the battery. The phone would need to run constantly on the reserve which would continuously be charged by the battery. Like adding a UPS to your PC. And since the GNex powers on in like ~30 seconds, I'd rather get 13 hours out of a charge than 10 with hot swap. Just my thoughts, I have no science to back it up though.

Morning BB, and the rest of you nexicans. I have 6 yards of mulch to spread this weekend.

But if the reserve was hard-wired in, how bad could the losses be? Do you think it would really be 20-30%? I am not edumacated in the world of power transfer losses.

I'm not an electrical engineer and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.:D

I was reading something about Google converting their data centers to DC power from AC and it explained it well enough for me to get a basic understanding. It was some time ago, though, or I would link to it. I seem to remember that it was pretty significant. It's sort of along the lines of the perpetual motions machine and why one truly doesn't exist.

I'm pretty sure there would be a way to make it to where the power switches to the backup when you pull the battery or heck, even add a hotswap button in the OS to switch to reserve and then switch back once the battery is in like mounting and unmounting SD card. That way the power wouldn't have to run through the reserve all the time and as soon as a regular battery is put back in, you would use that to re-charge the reserve. I think it's a great idea and should be implemented.

We were supposed to have our engagement photos this weekend...our 2nd reschedule so far. Now rescheduled again to june, so we have a free weekend. No plans, just stuff to do around the house.
TGIF to all the Friday people...and hello to all. Been lurking this week. Had some issues with the car at the mechanic, a broken tooth that will have to be removed and replaced...and still on the hunt for a new job...been an interesting week.
Hope everyone has a great and fun and relaxing weekend!!

This is a before pic for those who don't remember his beautiful hair!:

Wow, if you hadn't told me it was your son, I would have thought it was your daughter :p How often did he get mistaken for a girl? He's such a hansom little boy! So, I guess he cried during his first hair cut? His eyes look all red and swollen. I love babies when they are that age. They are so cute and lively and their excitement at learning everything just rubs off on you!

Good morning everyone! TGIF! (Sorry - I know some of you have to work tomorrow and you have my sincere sympathies).
Anyone doing anything good this weekend? I have to go get my daughter's and my passports renewed in the last name we all have now, then my parents surprised me by saying they got season tickets to Six Flags this year (it DOES pay to still live with your parents more often than not) so we are headed down to Jackson NJ to get that taken care of. Sunday is movie day! Taking Ann (my daughter) to see Chimpanzee and then headed to see The Lucky One in the afternoon. Maybe I'll even splurge and see The Hunger Games. :)
Wow, that seems like such a busy weekend! :D I love Six Flag. I've been to two (Ohio and Texas).

Today is our intern's last day :( I'm sad caused once she leaves I'm going to be terribly busy at work -_-; Team is going to Balton Rouge, which is a lovely steak house, for luch. So I'm going to order steak *_*

I'm in the tedious process of billing the hotels, lol.

Today is colder than I thought. I did not dress appropriately (yet again). I think I'm slowly getting sick. Stupid weather

I think it would probable be easier to implement two batteries. Instead of an 1,800mA main and 100mA reserve for hotswapping, why not two 1000mA batteries with switching between them.

I think I would choose the reserve design due to space constraints. Having one large removable battery and associated circuitry takes up enough space as it is. I'm personally in favor of large non-removable batteries like the Razr Maxx, but that's just me. Having a reserve of say, 100mah like you said, would be small and something that could be surface mounted on the circuit board and not take up much space at all. I can't imagine how large the phone would be with two batteries and battery slots. Batteries do not decrease or increase in size proportionally with capacity. A 1000 mah battery would not be half the size of a 2000 mah battery and then you've got to have two sets of contacts and two separate slots for them.

But in this case the power was already converted to DC through the transformer while the battery was being charged. Here you are only transferring DC to DC.

Yeah I was thinking about a hotswap app type implementation. As far as power switching, I am not sure how long phones can go without power without resetting, if the switching mechanism is fast enough to prevent a power-off.

With the frequency our phones run at, pretty much any instantaneous loss of power would shut them off. You can get around that sometimes by adding capacitors in the circuit after the switch so there would be a little residual energy left in the caps while the switch goes to the reserve.

That is what I was afraid of, and why I think the main battery would have to run through the reserve at all times. I think the solution would be the battery monitor reports the charge in the main battery, and shuts the phone off once it discharges to the minimum voltage like always. However there is an option to ignore the main battery and use the reserve battery for short periods to swap batteries, or make an emergency phone call.

I really think phone manufacturers could easily implement that feature. They have more knowledgable engineers than me and I could probably come up with a way to do it, so I know they could.

We have a Tues thru Thurs khakis and polo minimum...but Mon and Fri are jeans...most people push the limits and do not keep to a professional look, but I go so far as to wear a tie Tues thru Thurs...am about the only one other than upper management. Its fun sometimes, since people ask me if I have an interview or an appointment or presentation....everytime I wear a tie. Kinda fun to mess with people on that one...

but wish I really did have an interview lately. Jeez. Job searching sucks!!! /rant

I hate jeans, they are either too rough or too tight. I can only tolerate one day for jeans during the work week, lol.
:eek::eek: Say it isnt so??!!!!

I guess I would feel the same if I was a woman. Men's jeans are comfortable.
My jeans are comfortable. I like the ones that are more fitted and have some elastic to them.

When I was but a tomboy (noone believes me when I tell them that now) I had these pair of 'boy' jeans with the guy cuts and loved it to death until I rounded about and it became too tight, lol.

I love how jeans look on a guy as it hugs part of their bummie and falls straight down thereafter. So I thought, I'll buy meself a real guy jeans. I was 18/19 at the time. I didn't really know what size I was in guy pants and assumed I was the smallest size. I walked into a change room and tried them on and I couldn't pull it past my hip :< I usually ask the sales person that is in the change room to get me another size...but it was this cute guy and I was too embarrassed to ask him to get me a guy pants. So I changed and went and grabbed the next size up. As I passed the guy, he had a hard time keeping his face straight and I swore I could die of embarrassment. The pants fit but didn't look good on me so I left. As I gave the jeans to the sales guy smiled at me and said, 'I guess they didn't fit you'. *Roze dies*

Sad to say, going through all of that trouble and I found out that guys jeans only look good on guys

Ah well, that's what bfs are for! ;) lol

Hope you can find one soon!

I wear jeans and a polo every day. In the winter I will do button down shirts or sweaters with jeans, but not dress shirts or ties. Some days I go as far as to just wear those thermal type shirts from Americn Eagle or similar. Most days I wear my cowboy boots as well. Occassionally I'll wear my casual Clark's. Rarely, but some days when I know I'm going out to do inspections in the field I'll wear scrubs and work boots all day.

Decline of Android? I will give him that the iPhone did really well in the 4th 2011 and 1st 2012 in the US, but his stats conveniently pick the best two quarters for the iPhone, and Android wins handily in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, due to the release schedule of the iPhone. Also year over year Android is gaining more of the market share than iOS.
