Help HTC Evo 4G to boost

You can get S-off on the Evo with revolutionary.io. No need to buy anything. Unless you have a 1.18 bootloader... in which case you might be in for a bit of twisting.

I was originally going over the HTC Wildfire S forums getting ready to set up my cousins phone figured it would be a permanent solution when we get the evo

There was talk of boost being the first prepaid carrier to have the iPhone later this year.

Keep seeing the signs that sprint has iPhone. Have actually tried it. IMHO Android is way better

I would honestly flash the phone yourself, so you can learn and fix it if anything goes wrong. If you can follow step by step directions you can flash your own phone. It took me like 7 hours to finally get everything working. It normally doesn't take that long, but I made a few errors and had to start over a few times.

I chose the Samsung Epic 4g. Its got great development behind it and its everything I was looking for in a phone. You can pick them up really cheap on eBay especially if they have a bad ESN. You're going to change that anyways so it won't matter. I seen used ones going for like $60!

I have 3g and MMS fully working with out any hiccups so far. You won't have to worry about the phone reverting the data and shit back to sprint if you uninstall the systemupdates.apk. The Stock messaging app won't work for MMS you would have to use GoSMS Pro or handcent and manually change the APN info.

Just so you don't make the same mistake I did over and over. When you get everything flashed over make a few calls on the stock rom and wait until a Sprint rep picks up (Don't hang up!) They are gonna ask you what phone you have and tell them the name of your donor phone, not the phone you are actually gonna be using. They'll say OK and your phone is now authorized. After you get it authorized then you can flash the rom you want on it. Do not upgrade the modem afterwards or you will have to reflash everything all over again. If you get Error code 16 when you're making a call. You're gonna have to start all over again too. In my case I had to activate my prevail again and then reactivate my Epic to get rid of the error code 16 headache.

If there was 4G in my area i'd consider it but if I ever decide to give up my Prevail i'd go for the Marquee

Oh yeah, that would be nice. I've got my hopes up that the Evo will be priced right. I can't see spending over $300 on the phone nor can I afford it. If it's more than that, I'll just get the Marquee.

We're not. I talked with a buddy of mine that has a flashed Evo and he said it will work but didn't try because it'll cost 2 much to add.

Seriously unlikely. Why? Because 4g is unlike 3g. Every device has a unique key and it is also tied into the device's wimax antenna's ID. Something like your wifi mac address, unique. So even if you could "hijack" someone else's keys it'll only work for a short time. Plus your "Evo" is not really that. If it was it couldn't get onto Boost's network anyway. It is a Evo disguised as a incognito/rant or [insert donor phone's name here]. Why would Boost allow 4g signals to one of those devices? Do you have a 4g donor? Yeah? Then you probably can... but then again if you killed a 4g device to get here why did you have to flash your phone? Wait... Boost doesn't have 4g devices... yet.

Sorry if I confused you. Short version. If you have a 4g donor that's allowed on Boost then you can probably get 4g. Time to start looking for accident prone people who like to buy phones. I have a few donor android phones. One is a Prevail, water damage. One is a Transform Ultra, snapped in two. If you search they do exist.

I was looking up how to get 4g on my phone, and you can get 4g through a service called Clear. It would be a extra $35 a month though. So depending where you're at on your Shrinkage you would save a extra $5-10 a month over going through Sprint. With the hassle just getting everything set up I would rather just pay the extra money and get my service through Sprint.

Come to think of it, I believe my friend mentioned Clear. Maybe that was the 4g service that he was talking about getting and not Winmax. Probably was since a Evo that has been converted to Boost cannot get it.

I used clear here in KC for my home internet it was absolutely terrible. was about the same speed as my old DSL but they advertise great speeds. Plus their modem absolutely will not work at my new house. They still tried to charge me 50 a month despite not having internet at all for 3 months. Would not waste your time

I live in the Philly area, so we get pretty decent coverage around here. I still wouldn't pay the extra 35 a month for it though. I'll stick with my 1x speeds advertised as 3G.

At the time we were using Netflix like crazy. That was the real reason I considered it, supposed to be no data limit or speed caps. But of course we maxed our "data limit" for the month after streaming the first movie. It was downhill from there. Really the speed was closer to my old 56k modem

Throttling? I shall never subject myself to that! If I have to buy the device full price and pay the extra $5 a month that's cool. But Throttling? NEVER! I dont even get 4g in these parts! What's the point!?!?

PS: On a side note, I've never gone over 2.5gb a month. I tether at work and I usually pull about 50mb a day. Nothing data intensive, no youtube etc, mainly the forum and a few other mostly text with a few pictures of webpages.

I already have the Evo on boost. Half the roms out there don't seem to have working 4g anyway. So I'm sticking with just the 3g.

The way it seems that ALL boost customers are going to see the throttling put into place. Its not a big deal for me as I barely break the 2.5gb barrier in a month but for others it might be a problem.

Not sure how flashing is going to help. True I do not have to pay the extra $5 but I do not have the 1 year warranty from Samsung either. If throttling doesn't come into play if I keep my current device its a different story.

My speeds never see over 100kb/s so for me the 256kb limit is not an issue if they do start throttling everyone

throttling is the worst...clearwire is the owner of the wimaxx network, and they are simply moving sprint to LTE and pushing the wimaxx to prepay, boost and virgin.. $300 isn't the best but not the worst, the phone is $400 to upgrade on sprint.
i'll just wait for a sweet rom before i buy it!!
