New HTC Droid Eris

So today I am finally getting an Eris and was wondering if any of you have any tips that you wish you would have known when you first bought your phone?

Anything that I should or shouldnt do that will help the phone stay quick and snappy in a month as it is on day one?

Any applications that are a must have that you now cannot live without?

Anything helps! Thanks!

Yeah like I said, Ill probably just end up waiting for the official release. Just kinda how I am.

So after reading though someof the stickies I saw the post in the "tips and tricks" about switching between htc sense and the regular android look. Once changed to the original android style is there anyway to change back to the sense ui?

Good on ya.

Your new Eris has 1.5, which I have, and it works fine and is solid as can be.

Those with the leaked, unfinished 2.1 vary in their reports of its reliability, etc. There are hundreds of postings in the "bugs and fixes" thread for it.

Most using the leak want company; they'll advise Eris users to install it.

I think by very definition advise is opinion. and the upgrade is a simple process (especially since the OP has experience in updating their phone by themselves) The leak isn't buggy. Every OS has its issues (youtube anyone?) So its a trade off IMO.

It can be a trade off, as you say.

But enter into the equation the fact that there are people who just stick to the official versions of things such as updates to their devices, etc. We're just that way, as the thread starter stated in a later post.

The merits, or lack thereof, of the leaked download is secondary to us.

If you want your phone so stay quick and snappy try bedazzling it... I think this worked for caddyman... hey caddyman did you post that walkthrough on this yet. :p

i may be comin off dumb (as if i haven't in a few other posts already) but wth are you talking about? this is the only thread i found a mention of 'bedazzling', 'bedazzle', or 'bedazzled'...aside from the game, of course.

My must haves:

Acontacts - use instead of default dialer
Handcent - use instead of stock messenger
Weatherbug - weather
Audio manager
Afile lite
Astro - file manager
Colornote - notepad/checklist
Sdrescan - check for changes on sd card when transferring files over WiFi
Imusic - music downloader
My Verizon

I have many others but these are my main must haves.

I'm fairly new to the Eris too, had it about a month now. I've tweaked different phones in the past but I'm waiting on the OTA this time. The leaked is buggy, everyone that has it says it's great except for this or that not working right. Update to the leaked, rad more on these forums and decide for yourself. As for must have apps, I don't think there are any true must haves. It depends what you like. Just go to the market and start searching. download what your interested in not what others are interested in.
