Why no love for the Spectrum?

I was wondering....why isn't this phone shown much love on XDA or even here? I have the Spectrum and my partner has the HTC Rezound, and they're both awesome phones. My phone has been rooted since I got it (a week ago) and it runs like a champ. There is nothing that the Rezound or my co-workers Nexus can do, that my phone doesn't, or does it better. It's an awesome phone....

Agreed. Verizon is not marketing this phone the way it is marketing HTC and Motorola phones. I think there was one or two commercials for this phone and that's it. I selected this phone after playing with all the "Big Boys" in the store, and this one just felt RIGHT. I don't go much by the nay-sayer reviews, especially since a lot of them are HTC and Motorola Fanbois. I make up my own mind and the phone, albeit is not perfect, is just right for me. Yeah, the HTC Rezound matches all the specs, except the screen size, but I've had a HTC Thunderbolt before I got this phone and the Rezound is just a TB Version2. I tried to get away from the bulky design. Hopefully the devs will show some love once we get ICS on here or they get their hands on a working ICS Rom.

My Spectrum is my first smart phone and I love it. I can't compare it to other phones as far as performance goes, but from shopping at the Verizon store, I liked it better than anything else they had (bigger screen, thinner, and it was 2 for 1 at $199). From what I've read, mostly here, all smart phones have battery issues (nature of the beast) so I can live with that shortcoming, but the call quality, from Spectrum - Spectrum isn't great (my wife complains every time we talk to each other on our Spectrums).
I think the brand could be holding it back from being a front runner in the Android world, but I have an LG tv and LG washer and dryer, and both have been great. :thrasher:

All Android Smarthphones are battery hogs except the Maxx or unless you get an extended battery. Mine's not too bad....after a full day of browsing and occasional talking on it, I still have about 30% left at night. I'm using Popcorn Kernel and let my phone underclock to 192 (I think) when the screen is off.

It's not an easy phone to find either. As long as the big box stores like Best Buy aren't carrying it, it isn't going to sell well. But it's mostly my fault, I always seem to pick a phone that quickly becomes obsolete or has little to no aftermarket support. You can still hardly find ANY cases or accessories made for the Spectrum yet.

I have found a few, but I was thinking it was because it is a newer phone. Is it not?

Well it is a newer phone in the sense that it came out this year, but normally there are tons of launch day aftermarket stuff for the phones that accessory companies give their support to. I think the lack of an Otterbox for this phone is evidence enough that it got massively under represented

if this phone wouldve came out before the razr... we would probably have more dev support... and the fact that some of the lowest spec devices you can get today are made by lg... all the trendy people dont want one.. they want the phone everyone can take one look at and know what it is...

the only device verizon has that i would pick over the spectrum is the galaxy nexus.. but only because of the huge dev support and the fact ive owned 4 samsung smartphones and had no problems out of any of them

One reason I think fewer people are support the spectrum is the CPU. It is the last (or one of) model with an S3 and as a "high end" model. With the Evo LTE coming to Sprint with the S4, it would be like spending your time learning how to work with an Intel P4 instead of an I7 right now.

I bought the spectrum for three things,
1. Root was already available
2. 720p display
3. It was the only 1.5GHz dual core in the store

If sprint had announced the HTC Evo LTE a month earlier I never would have bought a Spectrum. (at the time I had an HTC Evo 4G, and my contract had expired, early March). To tell the truth on low CPU using tasks I feel like my Evo was faster than the Spectrum. But the Spectrum handles CPU intensive tasks in ways the Evo could not even dream of, by using both cores at full speed.

Also 3G on the Spectrum makes 3G on the Evo feel like 4G. Verizon is really slow except on speedtest.net. Even on Verizon 4G I have to wait longer for webpages to open than on my wifi (which speedtest shows my wifi as half the speed of my Verizon 4G). Trying to download files on Verizon 4G is fast, ftp uploads is slower than Sprint 3G.

Overall I am happy with my Spectrum thanks to the Devs here, but I wish Sprint had announced the new Evo LTE earlier. And I will be moving on from the Spectrum on the exact day the next HTC phone launches (summer 2014 I am sure), if things continue with HTC leading in first to launch the newest hardware. At least until my phone can out perform a low end/mid level laptop.

LG Revolution cases fit the Spectrum

None of the buttons would line up properly. I'd be thoroughly impressed if the phone back from the Revo fit the Spectrum though!

I don't think the lack of aftermarket has anything to do with the Spectrum being "new". I'm telling you, I ALWAYS buy the phone with the worst aftermarket support.

My purchase = quickly defunct

Well thanks a lot then :( haha

The Spectrum is essentially the Revo2 with a new name. I don't know if the specs on the case size are the same, but LG named the device the bryce2 and the Revo is the bryce. Lots of similarities, but for devs, TONS of differences. Creating a device repo is crazy hard, because the files on the Spec are named different than the Revo.

Here's a great side by side of the specs of both phones. They are similar in size, but not the same.

Well the spectrum is getting higher scores in antutu with mt's broken out rom than any phone I know of. My friend has an HTC with an ICS rom on it and only scores in the mid 6500's whereas the spectrum with mt's broken out scores over 7500 for some people. I personally have got 7400.

I think the spectrum is a great phone and we now have 2 rom's out for it. This phone is not getting the attention as the others because LG has not established themselves in the smartphone market the way the other big 3 have. (HTC, Samsung, and Motorola)

And finndo, to compare the s3 snap to an s4 snap with the analogy of a p4 intel to a i7 is just madness. An i7 is 100 times, maybe 1000 times better than a p4...literally an s3 is not that much worse than an s4. Does an s4 even have double the performance? Even if it did it would still fall far short of an i7 to a p4. It's just silly. You should have said an i5 to an i7.

I know, but it obviously made the point i wanted, as per your reply. The main differences as I remember (and my memory sucks), is that the S4 is a smaller die size (main benefit is lower voltage/wattage for better performance, ie better battery life and faster. And smaller chip size for lighter, low heat, and slimmer devices). And the LTE chip is on die (included in the CPU housing, again better battery life and performance, although not much more performance, just a tad)

The S3 is dual-core A9. The S4 is dual-core A15. Anandtech has a bunch of very informative articles about how the S4 chipset is an improvement over the S3 and every other chipset currently on the market.

Some of the articles are quite deep, but suffice it to say they are the reason why I'd like an S4 Pro chipset by the end of the year.

The only reason I have the Spectrum right now is because I just couldn't wait to upgrade from my AMOLED DROID Incredible. And I found a great price on ebay.

But I'd go back under a contract in a heartbeat for the right S4 Pro device on Verizon.

I'm waiting for benchmarks. They always tell the whole story.
