On second thought, I decided to google it, and I imagine it will use the same trackpad technology (which means it will be clickable) that the Desire uses, so I'd say this link might help....sorry for my misinformation in the previous post.

Thanks for the link and clearing that up. The Desire and Legend both have clickable optical pads, so that would have been strange if they took out any clicking functionality on the Incredible.

That's why we're a community. I'd say we're one of the better, more friendly ones too. The most inportant thing is passing along good information. Thanks for keeping me in line.:)

I have yet to own an Android phone, but one positive of Sense that I've heard of is Full Microsoft Exchange functionality....I believe stock doesn't provide calendar syncing.

I've also heard of some problems running Google Voice with Sense's previous versions, so hopefully that will get fixed in 2.1

I am way behind in this thread again (been a few hours since I last read), so someone may have answered this. I had a Moto Droid a couple months ago and it did sync to MS Exchange just fine. What it didn't do was allow you to seach in your email. You had to scroll through evry email one at a time, trying to find something from weeks ago. Now that is a royal pain.

Does anyone know if Sense or Android 2.1 gives you search for MS exchange (Outlook) email?

Thanks!

From what I read from this site, it seems that searching through mail would've been possible since 2.0, but I never had the DROID, so I cannot tell you from experience that it works.

Universal search isn't quite as universal as we'd like, though. It only pores over apps, contacts, YouTube, music and the web

Alright guys.. So I finally got a chance to contact stericson (the source of the 6GB ROM) by means other than Twitter (I don't have an account) to try and clarify a few things about the Incredible.

I would like to thank him for even talking to me about the phone and providing insight. he was VERY helpful. This is one of those TAKE IT FOR WHAT ITS WORTH moments (so before you jump on him and say the data was tampered with, just stop yourself). If you don't believe any of this, then just ignore the post and move on. I truly believe he is genuine in his intentions and after talking to him, he has made me a believer (and defintely knows his stuff!)

First order of business was clearing up that whole ROM situation. I asked if that screenshot was with the microSD card inside the phone. This is his response:
" No
That is not with an sd card
Did yall see my post of the results from "df" from the terminal?
its an embedded flash memory"

Fair enough. I told him that our member NKT said it showed that only when the microSD card was in.
This is his response:
"I just had my source pull his sdcard and it still shows over 6gb internal"

After talking for a bit, he helped me understand the dump coding he posted.
"did you google what emmc is?
see what it comes up with
from my specs I gave
it shows the 6+gb of space under /emmc"

I did so and learned what exactly that meant to understand how to read the following.

" $ export PATH=/data/local/bin:$PATH
$df
/dev: 206952K total, 0K used, 206952K available (block size 4096)
/sqlite_stmt_journals: 4096K total, 0K used, 4096K available (block size 4096)
/system: 253952K total, 217408K used, 36544K available (block size 4096)
/cache: 114688K total, 1368K used, 113320K available (block size 4096)
/data: 967576K total, 70732K used, 896844K available (block size 4096)
/datadata: 78848K total, 59720K used, 19128K available (block size 4096)
/emmc: 6920512K total, 158944K used, 6761568Kavailable (block size 32768)
$
Theres the result from "df" on the device
almost a gig in data"

I then questioned whether or not this can change from test-unit to production-unit. This is what he had to say:
"its signed with release keys"

He then provided me with an additional screenshot with NO microSD card in:
device2cu.png

and said: "if it didn't have phone storage, why would it ask you to format phone storage?"
That definitely makes sense. Why would it ask to format phone data but NOT the SDcard. Notice it still shows 6GB of flash memory. If the MicroSD card was in the phone, it would give you the option to format that, however that option was dimmed out.
So I think he cleared up that. I then moved on to the processor as I'm sure a few of us were curious about this. I referenced the dump he posted, and how some of people on here tried to read it, and I remember someone saying something about the phone was being run on 250mhz.
His response:
"nooo
when the phone is being used it is clocked to 998 mhz
when it is idle it is 245 mhz"

I then questioned (taking information thanks to you guys) the snapdragon, as none of you could find any info on a slower running snapdragon so the conclusion was we thought it was being underclocked. Heres what he had to say:
"yes that is untrue
it is NOT underclocked"

Hopefully that gives you guys another prospective on the Incredible's specs. Once again, thanks to stericson for sharing this information and taking the time to answer my questions.

This is EXACTLY the kind of post/screenshot that I was looking for...I hope this is the new android standard. Generous internal storage will mean no worries about running out of app space.....awesome work woop.

No prob. Like you said earlier, we're all in this together!

And I know some of the data may conflict with NKT, but hey, TOO MUCH info is always better than NO info right?!:D

Our phone just might turn out to be that incredible device we've been waiting for!

Did you invite him over here to join us?
He asked for a link to the thread, so I provided that to him. I did not ask him to join.

He told me it was OK to give his Gchat username out if anyone else has any more questions (I'm sure you guys do lol). It's "stericson.g1"

I'm posting his twitter account one more time too: Stephen (Stericson) on Twitter
make sure you follow this guy!

Woop? I think he's talking to you...:p
haha I was waiting for you to respond to that since he quoted you :p

No, I did not ask about the RAM. Sorry.. totally forgot about that. I figured I'd get the important stuff out the way first since it seems like there was a general concensus on the RAM. I posted his Gchat/Twitter above if you guys want to shoot him a few questions

First of all sweet! 2nd I hope this is true. When you think about it the OS reporting 6GB is pretty much a go for 8 GB ROM. I mean if you think about it like this it all make since:

Memory manufacturers count 1 GB = 1000MB
The OS (Android, Windows, OS X) count 1 GB = 1024MB

So if we divide the manufactures 8 GB / 1024 MB we get about 7.8 GB of writable ROM
subtract about 1 GB for the data, OS, etc that the phone ships with and that puts you @ 6.8 GB which is really close to what we are seeing in the screenshot. If I had to guess I'm sure the tester has put some stuff on the phone to well test it. So what do you guys and gals think? Is it plausible we will have a device with 8GB of internal storage or are we still dreaming?

p.s. I mean with an 8MP camera you need somewhere to store all those hires pics and vids. I can now start to understand why crApple is in such a uproar about HTC's devices. BOOM! Oh yeah I'm back on the Incredible side now!

Great work, woop!

This actually might make sense, even with NKT's info. This is just a theory, but what do all of you think of this:

1. I think (please correct me if I'm wrong), that NKT said that he assumed that the phone had 512MB RAM/ROM, since that's what the N1 had (or that he was told that it had the same memory as N1), and not that he actually saw the memory stats in the phone he played with;

2. We know there's not a lower quality snapdragon chip, but the code that was floating around here last night had programming for 768MHz. We concluded that it was probably the same processor, but had been run with different coding. What's even more interesting here is that there was also coding in that same dump for 998MHz- the same speed that woop's contact quoted. Assuming that this is correct, it might be that the test phone NKT had was set at 768MHz for some reason, but that the phone will be at 998MHz when sold.

Remember, the rumor yesterday was that there were several versions of this phone being tested right now. NKT shot it down by saying that the phone had already passed through FCC, so no hardware changes would be made. If, however, he was wrong on his assumption regarding the memory, then no hardware change would be necessary to explain the different phones- a change in software would change the processor speed, yet all of the hardware would stay the same. I’m thinking that there may be phones with different processor speeds being tested, possibly to test battery life given that the battery is a bit smaller in the Incredible than the N1; and

3. Several months ago, there was a member posting here named FatedDistress. Somehow, he had a connection at HTC, and based on his other posts, the general consensus was that he was legit. I can't find it right now, but as we were discussing these phones, I remember him saying that his contact told him that N1 and Incredible were different from one another, and that the N1 would be out on VZW towards the end of Q1. He then said that the Incredible will be just that- Incredible, but it won't be out until April or May. I took that post to mean that there would be some significant differences between the two phones, with the Incredible being a superior device.

If all of the above is true, we might very well be in for one hell of an Incredible surprise! I suppose it could also be wishful thinking too, but at least there’s hope. The good news is, if I’m wrong, the Incredible still looks to be a world beater.
