I gust upgraded from the Evo 4g to the Photon 4g and have a few question. The answers are probably out there but I've missed them so here I am. I've already rooted the thing (one-click rooting=AWESOME!) but am looking for a step by step for unlocking the bootloader because I hear it's a little complex. Also is it worth it to flash new ROMS? After I rooted and flashed CM7.1 on my Evo, it was glitchy as heck so I'm curious.

Secondly, for the love of God can someone please help me make this battery last longer cause it's not a whole lot better. Other than that I love this phone, that dual core is a difference maker. I had another question but now I'm drawing a blank so this will work for now I suppose. Thanks to all that will help. I need all the help I can get. Thanks.

P.S. - Why in the world is this phone EOL already?! Hopefully they come out with a Photon 2 that has simliar stats to the Atrix 2 (or the 3 that I read some rumors about-wow)!

Thanks Kolio. I had read that somewhere but I'd also heard that one of the Rom's out there actually had fixed that but I guess not. :(

Also can anyone tell me how to get my apps to my actually external sd card. I downloaded App2SD but it only moves them to "media area" - which I'm assuming is the internal storage.

Finally, I had to get a superuser update from the developer and I'm supposed to reboot into recovery mode and install it but I can't seem to get there. Can someone direct me here please? Thanks again.

Out of curiosity, why do you need to move your apps to the sd? I messed with that on the Evo, but on the Photon it seems unnecessary -- I have over 150 apps installed and still have tons of free space on internal.

But in general, you can find answers to most of your questions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20331557

So for recovery, if you don't want to unlock (and thus lose 4g), look at the video for installing "bootstrap recovery" - that's the locked work-around.

Just remember that you can only flash roms and mods that say they are for "locked."

Also, to really improve my performance, since the locked ROMs are limited, I flashed this:

I don't really need to move my apps but I try to keep them organized cause I'm kind of anal about that sometimes.

I finally got around to installing bootstrap recovery and that seems to work nicely. Now, I'm trying to find an up to date list of Roms and was hoping that I could get everyones opinion as to the best locked Rom. I'm just wanting to improve performance and hopefully a better battery life.

Also, thanks for the links. Headed over there now.

I'm rooted but still locked and have successfully flashed RockoRom on my Photon and am loving it. The only problem that I'm having is that everytime I reboot for any reason, anywhere from 2-8 apps will just be gone. I always have to go into Titanium Backup to restore them. Not a huge deal but very annoying so if someone could give me a hand, I'd appreciate it.

Is the storage set up differently w/the ROCKO ROM?
Meaning, can you actually move apps to your external SD Card, or, is the storage similar to stock?

I'm not sure if the sd storage is different. I don't believe that I can put apps directly on the sd as when I'm using App2Sd, I can only move it to "media area". I'm not sure exactly how the storage is set up on Rocko Rom, but it's quite stable and seems the same as stock so I'm assuming it's similar. I've wondered if there was a connection there also but I can't find a pattern to which apps are just gone.

Try a different ROM and see if you have the same issue. It may be the ROM or there may be something else going on. Another option is to go back to stock and run the beBlur script.

I've had the same disappearing act w/apps on the stock ROM.
Some have suggested moving any apps that are stored in the media area to the phone area.
Just another suggestion, no concrete evidence that this helps, but, it certainly couldn't hurt anything.

Never had any reports of that with one of the other locked ROMs or with deblur/debloat. Then again nobody ever uses that other ROM for some reason.

I've also tried the Skinny4g rom. I didn't stick with it long as I like Rocko better but I don't think it did it. What other Roms are there for a locked bootloader? Also what is beBlur script?

Check my sig. (that randomly disappears)

You have to be unlocked and have an overclock kernel installed. There's no way to overclocked a locked Photon. Run the locked version for a while. It's the fastest locked ROM available for the Photon right now. It was designed so that after you put on some widgets and eyecandy it uses the same or less ram than stock. So loaded down with stuff it's on average still faster than the Photon is out of the box. Some may not like the theme color but there really is a reason for it.

To give you an idea of what I mean by fast, I run the unlocked version with a cap of 750MhZ and shut off the second core. It's still about as fast as my OG Evo is even though it's running Launcher Pro (with calender and sms widgets), Beautiful widgets and a bunch of other junk.

Loki, I'd sure give it a shot. Seems like it would be pretty cool. Question on it, I use Droid TV Primetime. Would that allow me to use that on my tv?

Not sure about Droid TV Primetime as I haven't used it.

Any ideas as to when you may have a version for locked bootloaders?

End of the day, maybe sooner.

Umm, can someone please lend me a hand. I did my nandroid backup to prepare to flash the new Rom and after I wiped the Dalvick (I know I spelled that wrong) it said "back button disabled". I attempted reboot recovery and now I'm basically soft bricked. My business partner (much more phone savy than I) is attempting at the moment to restore back to stock via RSD Lite but RSD Lite won't see the phone although windows makes that ding sound when we plug it in. Any help would be appreciated.

Update: Well crap! It would seem my phone is hard bricked. No idea what happened. Got the phone to be seen on RSD Lite on another pc but it goes throught the process of installing the stock, unrooted .spf but it gets to 100% and won't get past "waiting on re-enumeration". It finally says fail and my phone screen looks very bad. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Well I guess it's a soft brick as I can turn it on and get into the locked recovery. I was using bootstrap recovery to flash all of the Roms. I had just wiped the dalvic cache and then it said "back button disabled" and the back option wasn't there anymore. I think clicked went up and down a couple of times and it said "back button enabled" but it still wasn't there. Finally, I clicked "reboot recovery" and it reboots but gets stuck at the initial Motorola symbol.

My business partner and I used RSD Lite to try to go completely to stock using an .spf (or is it .sbf, the correct one I just can't remember the appropriate abbreviation) but it failed 3 times on two different computers. I can't get into the locked recovery (not bootstrap) and can format cache and I think it was factory reset but they did nothing. Thanks for helping, I'm really not wanting to buy another phone. Thanks.
