Root What's the word on development?

Damn. Any eta on that?

what are you not understanding? this phone uses a samsung based kernel format which by itself would be difficult for me to learn. ask any indulge user how long clockworkmod took for them to get it going and that was with someone who is vastly more experienced than i. custom recovery at this time is not even on the map let alone being worked on.

as it stands the only kernel that boots is teh one that came on it, interloper has been trying to get one built from source to even load all 19 modules (hes at 14) and even with that there is no guarantee that samsung didnt "whoops" the source code again like they did with the indulge. so all of his work could end up being for nothing, but hes gunna keep working on it not because he NEEDS a custom kernel (because hes on sprint with me and doesnt have to worry about his phone like that) but because he wants to help.

a lot of phones on metro and boost get teh cold shoulder because they are prepaids, and some even on carriers like the samsung blaze 4g, its why the hitsquad tries to find devices that are in need and get root and recovery. some phones its easier some phones its not. the only time we actually invest time to do roms/kernels is if we have the device otherwise we leave it up to people who own the device.

a prime example of it would be the lg connect 4g, they have been rooted for over a month now and they stand there and cry cuz there is nothing being done yet so far ive only seen 5? actually step up and start to take things in their own hands. there are too many phones coming out these days and not enough real devs for them to cover it all.

now with that being said, im getting a bit of money this weekend, if i can find a bad esn attain or one with something stupidly easy to fix for cheap, then im prolly gunna pick it up so i can finish the damn uberfixit and save a bunch of peoples phones. depending on how much it costs i may just keep it and test for interloper (seeing as he only has pandibear in the irc as his only tester).

[/rant]

P.S.
not directed at you, but just a word for everyone.. if you use a kitchen your not a real dev

My bad for the misunderstanding shab, I would really like to get this device off the ground though. I have at least 0 experience at scripting (I suck.lol) I made a couple base stock themed roms for the admire (with the help of another themer for two of them, paris8577) and I got pretty addicted to adding my own twist to things. From my understanding this phone has two data partitions correct?

And I agree, using a kitchen to dev a rom is cheating, lol. Ppl should at least utilize 7zip and notepad++

Lmao, I have a small portion of something under my belt. I did the monster series for the admire

Hey guys. I've been mia for the most part for a few days. Business trip in Chicago, just got off the plane a few hours ago.

To touch on a few things said here.. I'm gonna get with cmadd and any others interested in helping me get a phone to interloper. The plan is to get it Friday still.

Also, I have deodexed the stock rom, tomorrow I will package the tar. Only changes thus far are deodexed apks and bloat removed, but its a start.

Genovdot, Google custom Odin packages, its not difficult if you read. Cygwin works for people I guess, but I had trouble packaging the tarball with it. Archive manager in Linux (any distro I assume, I use Ubuntu) works.

I may be able to help get a phone to you also shabby.

Off topic, but what is deodex? I know odexs are in the system/app folder and by context clues gather that you removed them, but for what purpose?

Deodexing makes theming easier... Apps consist of two parts, the apk and the odex. The apk uses the odex like libs (i think that is a very basic way to describe it)
This makes creating a theme difficult because you have to match the changes in apk and odex... (hope I'm explaining this right)
It also frees up a bunch of internal to add tweaks etc... At the cost of a small performance hit... But zip aligning the apks (optimizing them for Android to read) counteracts this, and the difference is hardly noticeable... (someone step in and correct correct the small details, but i thing that is the gist of it)

Oh and,
Oh, and sick burn, lmao

+1 :D:beer:
