Another Goodbye

hey all, just wanted to say it's been an amazing ride with the DHD, but I've gone onto new pastures with the One X.

i remember receiving the new phone at work and i was shocked at the size of the thing, 4.3" compared to the 3.2" of my HTC Hero at the time, but i quickly grew to love it, and since then, i couldn't go back to a smaller screen as it was just brilliant for browsing, playing games and the keypad size helps no one with texting and replying to stuff. it could run all the vids and play all the music i could possibly want.

it came with the latest single core processor at the time, and even today, it held its own. there wasnt an app or game (that i needed/wanted) that it couldn't run. there wasn't any, and if any, minimal lag on apps and in the general interface.

the phone was super slim that it fit in my pocket just fine and I loved the weight of the unibody case.

even when there have been a few issues with the gps, not so great battery life, camera being unusable on movable objects, one instance where the screen went unresponsive in one part of the screen and it had to be replaced under warranty....i hold it in high regard.

so much that I put this phone in my top 3 phones of all time, in no random order:

SPV C500
Nokia N95 Black
Desire HD

i am going to miss the (not so lil) bu99er, but hopefully the One X will take the mantle and duties with great gusto.

Sad to see another DHD user go (can't believe that at the rate that technology advances this is getting towards a legacy device!), but have fun with the One X! I can't decide between that and a GS III (will find out this evening if it's any good). Let us know how you get on with it!

yeah i know dude, i am pretty gutted to see my lil baby head off, but as for the new HTC One X?

well the initial experience wasn't great as there were battery issues (not charging to full capacity) and random crashes inc annoying random reboots! so had this swapped out the day after via courier and the phone that i have right now is working A-ok.

1) 1st thing that DHD owners will notice is how light the darn thing is - obvious since its not a metal body anymore.
2) the screen size isnt really that much of a shock, in fact the profile is pretty much the same, just the screen takes up more real-estate.
3) I like how the side edges of the phone falls off like the Nokia Lumia 800, so there's no side edges, and simply feels nice
4) the screen, i know i keep mentioning it, but man its lovely! pixel density and quality of the thing is gorgeous!
5) so far there isnt many apps that you could run on your DHD that wouldn't run on the One X (found only 1, and thats plants vs zombies!)
6) the camera, omg, finally a camera thats usable! its not like omg the best cam in the world, but its a defo improvement from the DHD.
7) there is an issue with the video at the moment as apparently it's not optimized with the tegra 3 chip i.e. only running at 19fps instead of 30+
8) battery life isnt that great for me at the moment, but thats cos im on the 1.26 firmware still, peeps have got the 1.28 which apparently increases life by 20%-25% which is pretty heafty. more improvements for the future i'd imagine as HTc have been good with their updates so far (they've just released 1.29)
9) i really miss the menu and search softkeys which is missing on the One X, HTC planted the menu button in screen which is a lil tad annoying when playing games lol
10) it gets warm when playing games or doing anything intensive
11) sound quality through speakers is better, quality though earpiece is also slightly louder, but not by much.
12) sense 4.0 is pretty much the same experience, alot more trimmed down, but the UI does feel home from home

overall, i'd recommend peeps on the DHD to move over to the One X even with its current flaws, as its flaws that im sure will be rectified.

My upgrade wont be until January but I will be still here as the Mrs will be inheriting the DHD....totally wasted on her I know but....

I can never do it. My old phones live in a draw. I can never part with them. Also if my current phone breaks, then I have a not so bad phone to use for the time being.

Totally agree with what you said about the dhd. It's still a good phone, and I think people underrate the camera on it a hell of a lot. I have the Samsung note and the camera is pathetic. Zoom in a bit on a photo and it becomes pixilated quite a bit. Whereas on the dhd you could zoom in and the quality of the pic was still intact.

Recycle request: When changing phones can I suggest if you are not going to sell your old one you consider donating to charities. The hospice I work for is struggling in this current financial climate. We have a bin in our reception for people to drop their old phones in and we get a bit of money of them. Many charities do this, its a thought.
