Feeling Good :) (Galaxy S III Announcement)

Does anyone else feel good about their decision to get a Nexus in light of the S3 announcement?

I bought a GSM Nexus from the Play Store the day it was announced and I'm thrilled so far. I think the screen is just fine (great even, especially on max brightness!), I get awesome battery life, and LOVE STOCK ANDROID!

I'm lucky in that I have not experienced any battery, signal, or screen issues so far and found myself a bit unimpressed with Samsung's announcement. Hardware buttons are a waste of space and add NOTHING, Touchwiz looks plain nasty (though the customizations are interesting).

The only benefits I can see are larger battery, faster SOC, and SD expansion. Other than that is there anything you find yourself excited about?

I just kept thinking to myself the entire premiere that I was so excited that by the time this phone is rolling out in the US, I will likely be thinking about Jelly Bean.

I can't wait until Majel is announced and dumped to (hopefully!) our phones quickly.

I'm with you this phone (for some) is exemplary and is the sexiest device out. The cpu in the SIII is quite the beast and attractive, just not for me. Love the GN!

Someone far smarter will come along with a better explanation, but the short answer is...Android's (superior) version of Siri.

Nothing I saw on the GSIII left me wanting to have it over my GNex. Still loving this phone (Verizon version).

I am perfectly happy with my purchase after seeing the GSIII. While it is nice, it is not much of an upgrade. Plus the Nexus looks better and from what I understand, the GSIII will not hit Verizon for a few more months.

It's a little short of my expectation, but still nice improvement from GSII. I like 2100mAh removable battery, sd slot, wireless charging and smart stay (screen stays on while looking at it).

And looking at this video, Touchwiz on ICS looks much better than previous version. I think it's on par with Sense 4 at least.

It's a nice evolution to the SG2. I'm glad I went with the G-Nex, ever since getting this phone, I can't see myself going back to capacitive buttons.

Now what exactly is Majel?

Do you know about Google's X Lab? Its the lab where Google works on other projects...creative stuff. Majel is the code name for Google's assistant software. From what I've read I hesitate to call it there Siri.

Majel has a cooler name. Majel is named after Majel Roddenberry. The computer voice from star trek.

Rumor has it a version someone saw had the user start with "Computer" to say a command

I'm quite happy with the Nexus over the SGS III for a number of reasons:

- PURE android - can't emphasize this enough (for me)
- same screen tech - screen will be the same (though possibly better video rendering if Samsung writes the driver)
- capacitive buttons - can't we ditch these already?? I love the Nexus and lack of these...software buttons FTW!
- no lame "main" button - what waste of real estate...
- currently barely use the dual core 1.2 GHz OMAP in the Nexus, so I really don't see a need for quad core (but I don't game on my phone...I realize for people who do, this is a big one. Though not sure how the GPUs stack up, I imagine it's at least as good as the SGS2, which is better than the GNex's video so there's that - but again, I don't game).

Quite happy. And I hope this isn't the last Nexus Verizon gets

This will be a great phone for my wife; but I'm happy with my Nexus. I know there are some here who have had their issues and have considered or already have bailed for different devices. But my Nexus has been great, I'll definitely have this until the fifth gen Nexus comes out. We'll have to see how that and the Galaxy S V compare...

IMO, the "pure Android experience" is more than the skin/UI. There's the additional ease to custom the OS down to the kernel level and tailor it to your wants/needs. This is still feasible with a lot phones, but depending on the manufacturer, this process comes with challenges.

The Galaxy S line is the Galaxy S line, and the Nexus is... well, Nexus. It's a whole step up from Galaxy S whatever.

My thinking is this: if Samsung could release a gem of a phone like Galaxy Nexus in December 2011, and then show us such a quantum step forward in just 6 months with the Galaxy SIII, can you IMAGINE what their next Nexus will be like this winter?

IF - and I say again, IF - we can convince Verizon with heavy demand to carry the next Nexus (The Galaxy Nexus was, in fact, their top-selling phone, despite their efforts to play it down ), then we can look forward to a complete dream machine in another 6 months.

I sandbagged an upgrade on our family plan for just such a contingency: that way, I can move upgrades around and get the best and brightest every year, then pass the old one down. The plan will work, IF we flood Verizon with enough demand for the next Nexus.

EDIT: Sorry you had such a bad experience with your Nexus, Trophy. Mine works like a dream 98% of the time... and considering how advanced it is, I'll let the 2% slide. No doubt Samsung knows the Nexus'... eccentricities, and will smooth out the next one to a 99.9% operational device.

A lot of the features of the s3 i was impressed with are on the software level (their version of siri, smart stay, picture in picture etc.) So of these features will be available when someone builds a ROM off of this...so yes I'm still very happy with the nexus at this point. Another phone on the horizon to look out for is the LG optimus lte2 that was also just announced...2gb of ram!

4.65" is already pushing it and the highest I've go. 4.8" is just too big with that bezel. Pure google experience ftw!

I've had 2 Nexii now and neither have had any real issues, I wouldn't trade either phone for the GS3 (and I was considering it). Think this is gonna last me the full two years.

The SIII looks like an awesome phone. But if they start offering POS Cadillacs with them, I'll have to pass.

I love the Nexus Screen but I was expecting a big step up and they left it alone. The processor is definitely a big step up, that plus the sd card are the only advantages I can see. Probably not going to upgrade from the Nexus until there is an A15 quad core, or the next generation of processors. Can't wait for the chips from Nvidia named after marvel characters.

Anybody who knows smart phones knows what I have and always get compliments. I really enjoy this phone and I'm not really one who likes to constantly play on them. I haven't had any issues and will definitely keep this till it dies.

For me, SD card and camera quality would be the nice to haves over the Nexus. I don't need a quad core processor in a phone.

The 1080 amoled PLUS was never going to happen, that was obvious given where they are with screen manufacturing at present. I thought there was a possibility we'd see a 720 PLUS, but the pentile at 720 ain't too bad.

My question is where do they go from here or maybe a year from now.

• Quad core is pretty much all you'll ever need in a phone.
• They may go to 1080, personally I don't see the point, 720 is fine, but let's say they go 1080, then there's def no point going further.
• Screen size has maxed out, 4.6 - 4.8 inches is pretty much max size for a phone.
• Storage will obviously always go up, but that's a minor upgrade.
• Camera quality in terms of sensor, that's prob where there's room for most improvement (new Nokia), but it's not as if pics are terrible at the mo.

In a few months we'll be at the limit of what's required of a mobile phone, if the S3 hasn't pretty much just defined that limit. So where do we go from the above specs, someone is going to have to take it in a whole new direction, or the software is going to have to really stand out.

I won't be swapping my Nexus, I've made that mistake before and won't be repeating it this time.

For me, the SG III is much cheaper looking hardware wise and certainly looks a step down from the Nexus.

Secondly, hardware; I seriously doubt that there will be software that just cannot run on the GNex before the next Nexus is released. Remember when people were complaining the Nexus S wasn't dual core? I certainly doubt that the CPU and GPU in the GNex won't be good enough into 2013.

Some of the software looks nice. The eye tracking is a useful feature, but I still don't want to use voice controls/assistants.

I think it will sell quite well, but I don't see it doing quite as well as the GSII. The GSII was ahead of the pack pretty significantly when it came out. While the GSIII has a fantastic processor, the rest of the phone, to me, is a Nexus with Touchwiz. And I still wish they would get more aggressive with battery size. The RAZR MAXX is the only phone with a truly decent battery life IMO.
