Considering a TouchPad

I've been looking around for a fairly cheap reasonable spec tablet for a while and was wondering if the TP is still a good option...there selling on eBay for about £200 which is a lot more than the fire sell but that's the only place I can find them. What I would like to know is:

Is this still a good device?
Is it worth the £200 or should I look elsewhere?
What's is it like when running CM7/CM9?

I am sure this will not be a popular opinion, but my answer is no. I picked up 2 during the firesale for the wife and I, and we have been using them since December. CM9/ICS runs ok, neither the camera or MIC work. The tablet itself does not have HDMI out or MicroSD card slot. For the price I paid at the time I am happy. But both my wife and I are looking to upgrade soon. We are both eying the ASUS TF300, which I have seen the 32 gig model go as cheap as $350 on Slickdeals.

The touchpad is OK, but my wife and I want a more polished product. Both our TPs are always rebooting themselves, and we both travel for our jobs and would like a working Camera and MIC as we have a infant at home and would like to use Skype. Plus we both have experienced charging (AC) issues.

If you like to tinker and have extra time to hang out in these forums and keep up on the new ROM releases and what they fix (and what they break), then the TP is for you. If you want a out of the box finished/polished experience then look at one of the many cheaper but higher spec tabs hitting the market this spring.

First off thank you for the reply. I'd be quite happy to tinker around with it but the issues you have with reboots and charging out me off. I think i'll wait for some new devices to come out and then see if any of those are reasonably cheap or if older tablets drop in price. Do you know of any cheap (with reasonably spec) tablets arriving soon?

Jerico, the latest nightly builds of CM9 do not reboot for many of us. You might try that.

The camera was a low priority initially and I suspect that won't change any time soon, since no ICS camera driver source code exists.

I paid $250 for my 32 gb model.

I am really excited about the ASUS TF300. Comes in a 16 and 32 gig model. You can also buy a optional keyboard turning it into a netbook.

With all of the comments above into account I personally believe that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is a much better option.

First - it runs native android so you know all of you stuff is there and it works. This means unlike the touchpad all of your cameras and microphones work.

Second - official version of ICS or Which ever the official version is which also means no reboots.

Third - sd card --- storage upto 32gig so technically 40 gigs of space.

Forth you can get an adapter for HDMI if that is your fancy - I don't really see why many people want that to plug to their tvs - I personally plug my xbox.

Nice tablet, but waaaay too expensive if you include the keyboard. I've got a nice, big, fast laptop, so don't need a netbook. Still much faster than even my Nexus.

I dont plan on getting the keyboard myself. On slickdeals the other day, you could have got the 32 gig model from Microcenter for $349. Already root-able and for only being out a week, its getting a big following pretty quickly over at XDA.
