ive used this for 2 days now, and i have to say it is amazing. no force closes and real smooth.

the only problem i had was trying to sync the facebook lp sense widget and it wouldnt even connect to the fb page due to an error. My work around for that was installing android pro widgets from google play.

other than that. great job! i love it.

Well after trying some new things I am being "getting aggravated at the process, but I'm now gonna try bringing actual sense since it's easier than trying to mix n match.

I would like for someone to define the word "stealing" here.

Is android open source or no?

I agree with giving credits where and when it is due, but if android is or "suppose" to be open source, then this is not "stealing"

If people think this is stealing can you imagine what us debian people feel about Ubuntu?

I just feel that the word "stealing" is just so wrong .... unless android is not open source and is like Microsoft

Open Source does not mean that you can just take the code and do with it what you please. Depending on what license you use (GPL is common, but not the only one), there are different rules to follow. Some licensing requires anyone who uses thay code to release the code from their derivative, but not all of them.

The Android OS from Google is Open Source, but not all things Android are. TouchWiz, Motoblur, and Sense I believe are closed source (MIUI used to be, not sure if they have released all the code yet or not).

I don't know the details of this situation to elaborate further, but Open Source does not mean take and do with as you please (although sometimes it can mean that). I believe xda has an open source requirement (I could be wrong), but at AF there is no requirement to release sources although it is encouraged by the Android community.

Hi agentc13

Yes, I know GPL very very well, and I don't think people here know it, or what is involved or what open source is in general and what open source really is.

Developers that use the GNU GPL protect your rights with two steps: (1) assert copyright on the software, and (2) offer you this License giving you legal permission to copy, distribute and/or modify it.

If android is truly open source, the word "stealing" would not be used period.

I usually direct people to OSI and the definition of open source The Open Source Definition | Open Source Initiative

Using open source since 1993-94, the world "stealing" puts a very bad taste in my mouth.

Google releases the Android code as open-source, under the Apache License.

The Apache Software Foundation and the Free Software Foundation agree that the Apache License 2.0 is a free software licence compatible with version 3 of the GPL.

Like any free software license, the Apache License allows the user of the software the freedom to use the software for any purpose, to distribute it, to modify it, and to distribute modified versions of the software.

To some of the young people here the term "stealing" is used, and that IMHO is just so wrong

The Apache License is permissive, so it doesn't require modified versions of the software to be distributed using the same license. In every licensed file, any original copyright, patent, trademark, and attribution notices in redistributed code must be preserved and, in every licensed file changed, a notification must be added stating that changes have been made to that file.
(google for more info)

Sense User Interface has been open source since 6/2/2011(since this rom is based on)

In 2010 Motorola announced that Motoblur would not be their development focus in the future, as Android made custom skins largely redundant. It too was proprietary software.

TouchWiz is proprietary software or non-free to describe software that is not free or open source

Stealing is a VERY strong word in the open source world and usually tells me that the person using the word has no clue to what open source is about.

Source code should be there, and to thank/mention/buy beer/donate/etc should also be there out of courtesy to the original dev (s), but "stealing" is just so wrong.

If you don't put your changes/modifications down for the public (share back to the community) then you are in violation

When open-source projects copy from companies, it's copyright infringement.

Still working on it. Computer fixed, and working with different stuff. uot kitchen, n stuff like that. Thinking of using stock as source, since it is fully functional. Had it almost all the way but after some trouble with the clock on black status bar, wound up boot looping.

Due to working my rear end off at work, and not having time to mess with stuff, this thread is now considered dead until further notice... Sorry guys. Just think though, if sense 4.0 were implemented into ICS, it would be cool. Will work on that whenever I have time... catch u later.
