Partial Charges

Hello. I remember hearing that charging slightly, but not letting it charge all the way is dangerous to the battery. It this true, or is can I let my battery charge a little and then unplug it without any problems?

idk if its dangerous to do it or not

however i do it often.

Especially when I forget to charge it at night and wake up and it's near dead i stick it on the charger to get the most power i can while i get ready for class.

My phone is rarely at a 100%
usually 90% lol

but now that i think about it.
it might be bad.

Before i got my mac, i had issues with Dell batteries on my laptop and i hear the batteries for dell last about 400 times(this is what my roommate told me)

so i guess if i applied the same concept and thought
by not letting it charge completely you will have to charge it a lot more during the day which could kill the battery

lol so in a short version...Yes, i think it may be harmful to the battery haha

These batteries PREFER partial charges to full charges.

Lithium ion batteries don't have a problem with partial charges, go for it.

You are correct though in that nicad laptop batteries don't much care for partial charges, but they're different technology and that's what makes the difference.

lol i have no idea what nicad batteries are

is that why they say its bad to leave the computer on the charger?

i have a habit of doing that

NiCad = Nickel Cadmium (sp?), I'm sure that helps you... .
In any case it's what makes up the guts of the battery.

Yes, ideally you would take you laptop of the charger and use the battery until the charge gets low enough that you computer complains. If you still have the instructions for your computer (yeah, right) I expect it gives some instructions on that point. *I* do that once per week for mine, I don't know if it should be done more or less frequently in a 'perfect' world, but I figure it's better than nothing at all.

but yeah i was so mad. I had the dell for less than 6 months and the battery was "unhealthy"
and they had to ship me one out
