Help Strategies to fix ICS problems - please check here

I can totally relate to that...My frustration grows on a daily basis as it gets so laggy now.

I need to kill tasks before I can send photos in Whatsapp, or even my Swype keyboard hangs every few hours. This is just ridiculous. Yes the auto-reboots are no longer plagueing me but what's the point when everything takes forever to load and the lag is just killing me

The list of issues since upgrade to ics is endless. The phone is an unuseable piece of junk now. This is not fair or right as it is under 6 months old.
I don't seem to be the only one either almost every post on the support forum is people with severe issues with ics.
The annoying thing is I loved the phone before this.

^This.

Android maintains an operating system cache, just like a browser cache. And just like when a browser gets all wonky and then works after you clear cache, you want to try the same thing here.

If you are not rooted, a factory data reset will do that for you.

I do it for every major upgrade and highly recommend it - it works to kill weird bugs.

Best to backup first, I recommend MyBackup Pro.

I can show you literally hundreds of people on these forums who have thanked me for this advice, so, I won't make any guarantees other than to guarantee that it's worth a shot. ;) :)

Don't forget that forums are often visited by people with problems, people without issues rarely post, so you usually only see the negative side. The only problem I seem to have is the "Android is upgrading" when the phone reboots, but as I very rarely reboot my phone it's not a big deal. Other than that the phone is more stable, seems more fluid, and has a marginally better battery life. I did do a factory reset though which may or may not explain why I'm not having lots of issues, nor do I have a huge number of apps, I think it says 68 in "My Apps"

I bought my HTC sensation with Orange(former France Telecom) in France. I traveled to Taiwan by the end of April... where I got upgrade to ICS... and my phone was totally out of use for 10 days... It restarted all the time and the phone was burning hot...

I finally resolved this, from the advice of my cousin, by deleting most of the applications which I seldom use... and it turned out to be "function-able"...

When I got back in France, the Orange forced me to do "another" upgrade, where it changed all everything in my phone and installed several Orange's applications. And ever since, there are more and more problems...

I could not do all the synchronization as I planned.. especially the Google contact..

and I have a lot of problem with "People".. problem with link and etc..

I wonder whether it is due to the Orange's "modification" of ICS.. or because I did the upgrade in two different areas/countries..

Anyway, I am really angry with this, just as the facebook app upgrade.... for it is getting worse and worse..

If upgrade is meant to be better, they did fail their job....

Since upgrading last week to ICS, my GPS takes forever, sometimes I can't input text into emails or sms messages without restarting, and my battery life seems cut in half. I used to be able to turn off GPS manually but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. No more on/off switch in the notifications area, and my GPS on/off widget seems to only be able to work at certain times. Plus, when I open Task Killer, there are always dozens of open apps that I didn't open. This was not the case before the upgrade. The positives are great, but I'm going to consider a factory reset and go back if I can't solve these issues, which greatly outweigh the new features.

I finally decided to install the ICS upgrade today on my HTC Sensation on the Bell Mobility network. My phone is S-Off and rooted. I downloaded the update TWICE today and tried to install it. It seems to download fine and prompts me to install. When I do install, it just gets stuck on the HTC screen for hours. I tried taking out the battery (even though the phone advises you not to), and it did nothing. Then I had to do restore from a backup. I tried contacting Bell (just as well to beat your head off a wall) and they told me to leave it overnight. Is anyone else having this problem??? I hate this phone more and more every day!!! Bad enough I put up with it randomly shutting down all the time because of a bug in Android 2.3.4, now I have to deal with the phone not working at all. HTC should be ASHAMED of this product!!!!!

This upgrade only hit South Africa recently and I'm now facing the same problems. Has anyone been able to resolve the restarting isssue?
I'm too scared to do a factory reset since it took me ages to tune my settings to how I want it to work.

Apart from that the only thing(so far) that really gets to me is that they removed the shortcut to turn the gps on/off.

Edit:
Any of you experiencing the problem using Avast antivirus?

It is always recommended to do a factory restore after a big update which ICS was..Just remember to back up all your stuff using My Backup Pro from Google Play, and DON`T put a tick in the check box that asks if you want to delete your memory card when you start to do a factory restore.....Mine had a few minor bugs and a restore sorted most out...The only problem i have now is the Wifi doesn`t connect as good as it used to but i can get around this issue..........Also as far as i`ve been told that if your phone is rooted you need to unroot before installing the official ICS update....
