Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Morning Everyone!!! :D Happy Monday!!!

I love Fringe and the Android references they make in the episodes. I haven't watched when season 3 was moved from Thursday to Friday. I HATE Friday tv showing. It's the 'killer' time :(

I rarely ever watch anything when it is on TV. My DVR gets used a lot!! Plus, I hate ads so sometimes even if I'm not doing anything when I show is on I will record it and watch later just so I can skip ads.

Nuclear/radiation side rant:

If people knew half of the things that emitted radiation that they are exposed to on a daily basis, they would either move into a fortress of solitude away from everything or finally decide nuclear plants are ok.

I know. Ever ate a banana? Did you know that they emit radiation when you ate it?

It is funny as a nuclear chemist because of radiation controls and shielding for the reactor under normal circumstances I actually received less radiation annually than flight attendants, lol!

There was a thread on here about an app like that a few days ago. It is amazing how many people thought it actually works. I was a nuclear chemist in the Navy and a big portion of my job involved the control of radioactive material and conducting radiation surveys. There is NO WAY for a phone to measure radiation. The people that think this works probably also believe radiation glows, lol!

Nice to see another nuke guy on here :D

Haha, yeah. In my 4 years of working at a nuke plant, I've received a total of 10 mrem.

Every time I use a microwave I stick my face right up to it in hopes that I will glow someday :D

I did get quite a lot more than that, but that is only because as an ELT I had to conduct surveys in the reactor compartment every time we shut down and because of some other qualifications I had I did most of the supervising of work inside the RC. Under normal operations though, even with my direct sampling of the reactor plant water exposure was very minimal though.

Yeah, my job is pretty low exposure, but it's funny how people think I'm going to die younger because I get the amount of exposure in 4 years that they get from taking 2-3 flights.

I use the dvr for all the shows I watch too. Its just easier. But I usually end up forgetting its dvr and letting the commercials play.

Is this intentional?
WW POints

Nope - fixed that, thanks. Stupid work keyboard.

The information on the internet has scared a lot of people.

The information on the internet has scared a lot of people.

The media in general scares people. They talk about things they have no idea about, but they try to act like they have a clue. Then they spread bad information and people just believe it.

When the Japan Tsunami happened I don't know how many times I had to explain to people that we didn't have to worry about radiation from their reactors affecting us in Seattle! Yeah, the media here caused a big scare about that :rolleyes:

To add to that, they act like that was just a common occurance and could happen anywhere. How many earthquakes in our historical records have ever been that strong and then how many of those were followed up by a 40 foot tsunami. If I remember right, the plant was designed for an 8.0 magnitude quake and up to a 30 foot tsunami. What did they get? An 8.9 and a 40 foot tsunami. The thing is, the problem wasn't the earthquake. The plant was damaged but could have easily been put in a safe condition. It was the 40 foot wall of water that wiped out all power lines coming into the plant and knocking out their backup generators that did them in.
