Help 5% battery drain on 10 minute of browsing

If its 5% down starting from 100%, yes that is normal. The first 10% is not an accurate meter of battery usage. There's a long article explaining it, but in short, your phone is really never at 100% and is usually somewhere between 90-100% when it shows 100% charged. The first 10% will go quickly as the meter tries to play catch up to the actual charge level.

If its just in the middle of the day, it will, as Kyle noted, depend on a lot of factors. 3G/4G/Wifi? - 4G is a big drain. 3G also quite draining. Wifi is the least.

Brightness - the higher the brightness the faster the drain. I keep my phone under 30% at all times unless I'm outside, then I bump it up. I suggest keeping a brightness control easily available on a home screen. I think auto tends to run too bright unnecessarily.

Welcome to Android. Battery life is never as good as you will want.

However one other thing to remember is the AMOLED screen uses much more power for bright/white pixels and zero power for black. So use dark backgrounds and colors more than a white background.

Try using Google Black (http://bgoog.com). If you read a lot, set the reading App to white text on black.

Not necessary, but it does make a difference.

I use this live wallpaper. It's like you're on a spaceship-- you can even double tap for hyperspace. But the way I have it set is black space (no galaxies in the bg, which is possible in the settings) with the stars on top of them. So it's mostly black for battery life, but you still get a cool live wallpaper. Seems good on battery life to me. Plus I can nerd out and act like I'm on one of the ships from Stargate :D. lol.

You may have an issue with your battery settings. Try clearing your battery setting memory next time you have a full charge.

how do you even wipe the battery stats? i'm new to ICS (and been away from android a while... since nexus one)

You have to be rooted to do so and would do it through recovery or through an app (BatteryCalibration).

Can't do it without root AFAIK.

Just FYI, a Google Engineer said you shouldn't really ever need to do this: Wiping battery stats doesn't improve battery life, says Google engineer | Android Central

Just a heads up - it may help, it may not.

As stated above, wiping the the battery will not "improve battery life." The purpose of wiping would be to "recalibrate the battery drain rate" not improve the battery life, as your prior post implied I was suggesting. Wiping would most likely correct the false, or rather inflated, "5%" in ten minutes to represent actual drain rate of maybe two or three percent.

Fair enough and never said anyone was incorrect, just supplying more information about the wiping of battery stats.

Didn't want anyone to think it could help improve battery life - that your phone may not be draining 5% and changing that would correctly report it. Just passing along some info I had read and was relevant to discussion.

Actually, from his linked article.

"It has no impact on the current battery level shown to you."

Interesting. I was always under the impression that the recorded stats taken from the past battery usage were used to calculate future use and thus current percentage, which would correlate with my observations using Battery Monitor Widget.

While monitoring my phone on a heavy use, it will drop rapidly, and then once the heavy use stops, the battery level will add a few percentage points back to the battery level.

Regardless, here is the source rather rather than a quote.

Back to the the OP's issue. I would just try a different kernel OP.
