the ubiquitous internal storage issue

Hey Folks,

Need some advice about a common topic on here. I'm running low on internal storage to the point where I can't even update major apps (Facebook, etc). I have every app that CAN be moved to the SD card moved over there already. There are only about 6 or 7 apps that make up about 37 megs of my phone's internal storage. So does the other integral phone software or apps take up the other 125 megs? I don't know what else I can delete. Ideas? I'm not rooted and not considering it.

1) I constantly delete all emails out of their respective trash
2) I constantly clear the browser cache and browser history
3) text threads are regularly deleted
4) pics are regularly deleted and there are no videos

I really hope there are things I can do to free up more space. Any help appreciated! I love to get rid of the bloatware that came loaded on the phone.

No doubt. Rooting is the only way that I know of to get the space you need. There are some ROM's/kernels that will let you set your internal storage to the amount of space that you desire. I'm running a 16gb sd card with 2 gigs of internal storage and the rest set for music, pictures or what ever else I decide to put on my card. Not only do I have all the space that I will ever need for apps, I was also able to get rid of all the annoying bloatware that comes with the phone.

There are a lot of custom ROMs to choose from. I would suggest reading through the All Things Root section and asking questions and opinions of some of the members. I think that you'll find quite a few options that will work nicely for you.:)

"Totally by accident" I was able to get 700mb or so of internal memory messing with the SD partitions settings. I'm on ctmod 3.5 kk 2.5 I have a 2gb SD card and would like to know how I did it, I've read and messed with the settings for hours now any help would greatly be appreciated :saint:

settings/ CTmod settings/ koumakernel settings

"Data" will convert the secondary partition to internal storage (/data) and will show up as extra space. Thats probably what you are using.

"ssm" is super secret mod and will convert the secondary partition into /data/app, and third partition into the dalvik cache. this will not show up as internal storage, will not increase the shown internal space, but it actually works. It's faster running, but harder to set up. Don't use this unless you have read the koumakernel thread extensively and repartitioned the SD card through ADB.

The amount of space you get is set when you partition the SD-card, anything you allocate to SD-ext (secondary partition) becomes internal. You would have to format and repartition the card to change the amounts, which wipes the SD card. Check my sig, or the koumakernel thread, for more info.

Working great now, I now have 817mb of internal memory, now I can wait for the Evo to come out before I get a new phone, thanks again :itsme:
