Help Connecting and reading a USB memory stick

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note phone and a micro HDMI to USB connector which recognize the memory stick when I connect it to the phone. I see a quick "USB connected" (or similiar) message flashing up on the top of the phone's home screen when I make a connection, but is unable to find it and the files on the memory strick when I searches my phone.

I reckon there's a remedy, and probable some settings to be done to make a memory stick/ phone connection, but where? And how can I fix this problem of mine?

Hope anyone can help me.

What you are looking to do is enable "USB Host Mode" and as far as I know, this is not an option that is enabled by default. In order to get this to work, you will need to root your phone and find a Kernel/ROM with this enabled.

Mines not rooted, so I am not sure if this is even possible yet with the Note.

Thanks for the reply, but if it must be rooted I have to make a pass.
After all, it's my employer who have paid the phone and rooting will - if I'm correctly informed - make the guarantee obsolte.
Maybe a software update or an app will make the USB connectable?
Anyone who knows?

Far as I know, it will need a Kernel update and that either has to be done by Samsung (for non-rooted) or a Dev but needs Root. I would not hold your breath for a native USB Host mode, unless Samsung just wants to be REALLY freaking cool!

Files on the USB stick will be found under the usbStorage folder. But standard Micro to USB connector wont work for this. Be sure the one you use is Micro USB Host Mode OTG Cable.
