Root Help with battery heat

So I'm running the Backside IHO ROM on my OP V. I'm using the built in CyanogenMod settings for performance. I've got my cpu set at 245/806 ONDEMAND. But whenever I use my phone for an extended period or anything heavy (for instance, running Pandora for awhile or playing Angry Birds) my battery starts getting pretty warm, even hot. I haven't checked the actual temps, but I can feel it. I've searched and searched and haven't figured out any magic cpu settings, and I was wondering if anyone had a fix for this. For the record, I've tried the same settings on SetCPU and had the same results. What am I doing wrong?

I run mine at default 600mhz and when using heavy 3g data such as Pandora or downloading large files it gets pretty hot. I have seen others with the issue. You can drop your Max to see if it helps but prob won't much. As long as your phone is stable at you oc setting and it's not freezing and rebooting it should be fine. I assume it comes from the increases current draw on battery when streaming or gaming

The problem is your min setting. The CPU has to work to hard to ramp up from 245MHz to 806MHz that it's eating up your battery and causing the CPU to run all the time and the battery to get hot. Any time an application needs to do anything, which is a lot (with LBE Privacy Guard installed you will be surprised at just what these apps are doing that you don't even know about, WOW!) the phone now has to ramp up to your max.
The min is where your phone idles so never set above 480MHz, but, if your running the max above 700MHz you need to set it to 480MHz. Set the min at 480MHz and leave it there.
Set the max at 748MHz and then open up the gallery. If it's running OK then bump the Max up to the next setting of 768, open up the gallery and check it out. Etc. Etc until the phone reboots on it's own. Then set you max down two settings. Set you governor to InteractivX.
This will give you the best battery off charge times.
When you need to play a game bump the max up to 806MHz, the governor to Performance.

Hey, another quick question. You said that apps do a lot of stuff that you don't even know about. I've got Advanced Task Manager running, and I have the Auto-Kill setting turned on, so that when my screen is off it kills all apps. That should help with the background processess right?

That app is NOT recommended to use, in the short run you'll see benefits such as speed, but then it will start going unstable. It's better to let android handle the processes, unless you're on a phone before Android 2.0, but you're not.

Task killers are good for when your RAM/Memory drop below like 140MB.

Although it's said to kill battery faster, I use Superbox(Task killer, Cache Cleaner, etc), and when I'm in school, I browse, text, listen to music and all. Come home from school, have about 86% left. By the end of the day, I have a little more than 50%.

For Gallery, I REALLY recommend QuickPic.

Unless you have a way to control the auto run settings of an app, when you use a task killer it will just start back up by itself. Then the task killer kills it again, then it starts back up, then the task killer kills it again and on and on.... Starting to get the picture? This is why task killers use more battery than letting the system handle it. If you are rooted, I recommend checking out Gemini App Manager. You would be surprised what actions and conditions will trigger some apps to start up.

I quit using a task killer and battery saver over 8 months ago.
Download a widget app that will allow you to put widgets on any screen to control all these: WiFi, 3G, GPS, Bluetooth, screen brightness (don't turn it down so low you can't see it) , and Airplane mode. Then download Periodic Auto Sync and set it up to turn on and for how long you want (you usually only need it on for 1 min every 4 hours). Turn everything off, everything. Just turn it on when you need it. When I go to bed with the phone on screen off at 100% battery, I can get up to the phone still at 100%.
I can use solid internet, screen always on, for slightly over 6 hours which is better the the laptop I had.

Oh absolutely. Not a bad thing to offer more than one article to read on it as some prefer more than one writeup to read. Personally I prefer the one I linked simply because its here on these forums and from a developer.

I remember talking to Leslieann about Task Killers. They aren't bad, just not as good as they are on Stock than Rooted.

Task killers where very useful on android OS's before 2.0. After that the OS was improved greatly.
I would be inclined to believe the advice of a seasoned app developer over a seasoned ROM developer when it comes to advice on killing apps.

Though I appreciate the help, I really don't have problem with battery length, just battery heat. Thank you for the help though.

Thank you everyone for the links and tips about task killers. I had no idea. I set my CPU to the settings suggested by AndyOpie, and haven't had any heating yet that I've noticed. And I was using Pandora for about 2 hours straight. So problem solved.

Meh. I'm not crazy about Pandora, the music isn't as random as I'd like. But Slacker always seems to be buggy on my phone.
