Help Something's wrong with my battery

I bought my HTC One X on 3rd April and did a full charge (100%) on day one. I think it took around 3 hours for the battery to get fully charged.

Since then the battery has been performing pretty well, giving me around 10 hours of no-charge time, with screen set at auto brightness, 3G and auto-sync ON, and nominal usage.

My charging cycle:

1) My phone battery is below 20% when I wake up, so I charge my phone in the morning before leaving for office, for almost 1 hour; this gives me a battery level of around 40%

2) With no charging on my way to office (which is a 15 minute drive from my place), I plug the phone to a wall charger on reaching office till the battery reaches 100%; this takes around 2 hours to complete; sometimes when I have to go for meetings and all, I pull out the charger and resume the charging once I'm back on my desk

3) I don't charge the phone again during the day

The problem:

Today in the morning, the battery showed a 2% level. (and I wasnt surprised because I watched some youtube videos before sleeping yesterday night and the battery level was 20% back then)

I plugged it in a wall charger; after a while I notice a message on the screen...something like: 'Your phone is using more power than being supplied by charger. Please close some applications blah blah'
So I flicked-off a couple of 'Recent Apps'. The battery still read 2%

After 1 hour, I saw the battery had reached 4% only; so I thought I better power off my phone and let the phone charge with no power being consumed.

But to my surprise, when I turned on the phone after 1 hour.....the battery still read 4%!!!

My phone's constantly plugged in since morning (8 am) and till now, (10.30 pm) the battery has reached 40% level only, with no phone usage at all.

One clear problem: The phone is not getting charged while it is off (although the red LED is glowing). And the battery level is taking ages to go up.

I'm using the stock ROM, no rooting.

Is there anyone who has faced anything similar.

I would also like to know is there any graphic or some symbol on the screen when you try to charge the phone while it is turned OFF??
My phone only shows the red LED glowing.

Please help.

You could try with the Fast Boot option unchecked (Settings - Power ...) before you turn off the phone.

Hi guys,

On my htc One x the battery was dying after few houres and was geting very hot in my poket.So I decid to instal on of thoes apps that shows me what is using the most resource( Cool Tool - system stats/labels/thick Most resource-intensive process).I found that RILD?!?(I do not know what that is) keeps the procesor on 1-1,4Ghz ALL THE TIME even in sleep.Even when charging.That is why it may take long to charge because it is using a lot of power.
I ve read on some forum that if you turn off the phone for 30-60sec it wont come back the RILD......I have done that and now is not there any more and the procesor goes down to 102mhz most of time.

Try this guys you all mabe have the problem but do not know about it....

I got a replacement from the store around 2 weeks ago, but the same problem started to creep up again this morning on the new unit.

Anyone know how to fix this?

I received my HTC ONE X on the 5th, charged it fully for 16 hours like my phone operator recommended (1st charge).

The first few days I got roughly 6-8 hours moderate use out of each charge.
Them after a few days the charge lasted 12-15 hours so i was really pleased.

I previously had HTC HD2, and my usb data cable is longer than the one supplied with the One x, so all i have done is replaced the cable because of the added length. I have kept the same actual plug that came with my One x.

Anyway, the last 2 days, after completely charging my phone, after just 1 hour I am down to under half battery left on my battery indicator, my phone is showing power warning "battery under 10%" after just 1 hour 45 minutes.

I have notice my phone getting seriously hot whilst playing "Temple Run" whilst phone's on charge. Even the glass on the front of the phone is really hot.....But that's the least of my worries.


Today, Whilst my phone is charging, if i touch anywhere on the screen, I am greeted with cross hairs, like a snipers rifle, and where ever i touch my screen, it turns in to a writing pad, drawing blue lines all over the screen.

Inspecting this further, at the top of the screen where the pull down menu for settings is, there is a red and grey bar, with a ton of numbers and letters, I am convinced this isn't just random garbage, but in fact some sort of system information.

eg...

p: 1/1 dx: 0:0 dy: 0:0 xv: 0:0 yx: 0:0 yv: 023 size: 023

No idea what all this is.....I think i will have to send the phone back.

Just started system update, will have to hope this fixes things.

Welcome to AF Sparq2112, if the phone gets too hot, it will stop charging, are you sure it was fully charged? It might not be connected, but I'd also use the supplied cable to charge it, just to be one the safe side. Have you just had the update btw? That's meant to improve battery life.

To get rid of the dots and the pointer trail, head to Settings -> Developer Options -> Show Touches and/or Pointer Locations and make sure both are unchecked.

I unchecked the "show Touches" in "Developer Options" and it worked a treat, disappeared instantly.

I did the system upgrade roughly about 2 hours ago, (Charged my phone up 75% 1st, as you need at least 35% battery to instal update, and it's recommended to update with the phone off charge) and....

2hours later, admittedly hardly used my phone, but the battery meter hasn't moved...

So i think it has worked.....

if your battery doesnt seem to want to charge after long periods of the phone being on charge then you need to do a manual factory reboot. I had the same problem and did a factory reset and now the phone does charge right up to 98 percent.
To do this power off your phone and remove the usb charger cable from it.
then press AND HOLD both the power and volume down button UNTIL you get a white diagnostics screen with a menu. release both buttons and then use the volume up or down to navigate through the menu and press power button to select.
if you do a force factory reset ALL data will be erased. Even music or photos that may have been on your device from factory. please backup before doing this.

Something's been wrong with my battery for the last few days too.

It's been draining extremely fast with only light usage (Twitter, Facebook, texting), and I've been charging it to 100% twice a day. I figured that some of it may be to do with the fact that I recently installed a new launcher and WidgetLocker, but it shouldn't drain it this much.

Last night I went to sleep at around 2am with 60% battery, and I woke up at 9am and it was completely flat. I've now had it on charge for 2 hours and it's only 70% charged.

I checked the power screen in the settings and it says that Android OS is using 48% of power, while the screen is using 20% and other apps using 10% of less. Is that normal?

Nope, not normal. Generally screen is the biggest battery drain.

Looking at your battery stats graph, does the screen on time correlate to the Awake time?

Its changed now. Android OS is using 8% and the screen is using 60%.

However, I took it off charge 3 hours ago on 80% and it hasn't gone down since. And the graph is just showing a straight line.

Keep us posted, I get cycles where the battery is rubbish (never as severe though) so it might have been a blip.

Seems to be more or less normal today, apart from draining pretty fast. It was on 95% when I went to bed and when I woke up it was on 78%.

It stayed on 80% for about 5 hours last night but then sank to 30% within about 15 minutes. It seems to me that the battery percentage/bar on the phone isn't correlating to the actual power in the phone. So I guess it's an OS problem. I'm running 1.26.206.2 on O2, waiting for them to release the new one.

I have also had my phone for just under 1 week its been fine but today i ran the battery flat due to the radio been on walking home and Facebook running in the back app's iv pluged it in to the supplied plug and lead and there is nothing no red light by the power button nor will it turn on .. if iv not fixed it by monday ill go to my local o2 shop

When mine went flat and I plugged the charger in I got a red light straight away and could turn it on after a few minutes. So it seems like something might be wrong with yours if you have no red light. I'm sure they'll replace or fix it though.

Ive been going back and forth trying to decide between the sgs3 and this phone but out of the massive list of issues in this page, this is the biggest worry for me! Some people saying they are on their 3rd handset replacement.....

Thats a worry. Struggling to commit to a 24 month contract with this issue.

Widget Locker does not let the phone go in sleep mode. There an extra setting for that within widgetlocker to enable security lock or something ...
But i guess this would keep you screen off yet phone(cpu) in wake mode and run at higher clock rate than expected.

May be you should remove widget locker and test it once again.

I'm average about 18-20 hours with normal Internet browsing, quick minute phone calls, a lot of text messaging and always listening to music. I'm very happy considering my LG Thrill would give me about 5-6 hours with this use.

Welcome to AF Heafy.

You'll most likely have to send that in for replacement, sorry. Lithium batteries generally shouldn't be allowed to lose charge completely, if the voltage drops below a certain level, it's ruined.

I'm sure I've heard of devices which can kickstart them back in to life, but I'm not sure how expensive they are/how easy they are to get a hold of.
