I've been hearing that with android you cannot install apps on an SD memory card? Does that mean you have to use the onboard memory of 512mb? That wont hold many apps AT ALL. If so that is a horrible choice by HTC to not incorporate a big storage and forget about the use of an SD card.

This is a serious issue for each phone of HTC recently ... But people in the communities are working on it and they are getting closer .... so keep up hope ... rooting and apps-2-sd are a must for many users ...

Is rooting illegal or does it void your phone's warranty? Is it the same as jailbreaking an iPhone?

rooting is not illegal and not really the same as "jailbreaking" rooting is just what it says in linux based system you have su / sudo / superuser which allows you to run things at/as root/core of the system rooting your phone is simply adding this feature back in and it was something that could be done on the original RC28 , RC29 build release of the dream.... as for voiding the warenty as long as you dont destroy your phone they will honor the warenty...

Phone apps are very small, so the 288 meg or so you get for storage seems to go quite a long way, it's certainly not the case that it "won't hold many apps AT ALL". I've got several screens' worth of apps on there and am nowhere close to filling it so don't worry too much about the onboard storage, apps with large storage requirements lke CoPilot store their data on the SD card so only use memory to store the app and a few small bits of data.

The point of storing and running apps on the sd card is not so that you dont run out of space at some point....

With the appstosd method it is ideal to use a class 6 sdch card wich is really fast when it comes to read/write speeds, thus your aps run faster and smoother, and you have more memory available for your system to run :)

Thats basically the way I have understood it, if I am wrong, someone please correct me... Now lets all put our thinking caps on and try get a Originall beefed up htc rom for these great phones!!
