Help Charging port is loose/not working

The charging port on my Inc 2 has come loose and now in order to get it to charge, I have to hold the wire of the charger in a very specific direction and with a very specific tension. It seems like this isn't a particularly uncommon issue with this phone.

I bought the phone in May so it's still under warranty. They are saying they will send a refurbished phone to me tomorrow. I insisted that I wanted a new phone instead, but she wouldn't budge so she said I could take it to a store to have it repaired.

Any suggestions on what I should do? I don't like the idea that they send you a refurbished phone but the warranty doesn't "reset". With this being a common problem, I'm afraid that this will just happen again, especially with a phone that has been used by someone.

This is a common problem with the INC2. Their refurbished phones aren't so bad. I'm sure that's the route you need to take though. I wouldn't trust a resoldered port as much as I would a refurbished phone from them.

If I go that route, will I need to redo everything? All of the apps and widgets on my screens, email accounts, etc? I don't know what's stored on my SD card versus on my phone or how to transfer things when I get the new phone. Can I take it into a store to have them do it?

Sorry, this is my first smartphone so I'm a bit clueless.

All pictures, videos, music, etc. is stored on the SD card. Pretty much everything other than apps and phone settings. When you sign into your Google account on your new phone, it should sync your contacts and everything and download all the apps you had previously installed. Just make sure you go into settings>privacy and check "Back up my data" and "Automatic restore" before you exchange phones so it will sync everything to the cloud and restore it when you sign in again on your new phone.


And yes you will have to redo all your home screens and sign in to all your various accounts.

I'll throw in my two cents. Same experience with my phone and my wife's phone. It started with her phone. It stopped charging. We took it to the Verizon store (it was actually a contract vendor, not a corporate store) and they tried doing a hard reset. That only resulting in her losing all her data... but still wouldn't charge. Then they took the battery out, and replaced it... still won't charge. Finally, after the Verizon clerk was on the phone with tech support, they agreed to handle it as a warranty issue and sent her a new phone. (That was a whole separate fiasco, since they sent her refurbed phone to the wrong address...) Now her phone charges. Now, as of today, mine stopped charging. I could get it to charge if I wiggle the cable connector a little, but it's tricky.

Now, I'm no rocket scientist, but it would APPEAR as though there is a design flaw on the charging port. I lost count on this board how many people have reported the same problem. (not to mention all the other forums I've found this problem on.... do a google search on "droid won't charge" and see the problem) Attention Verizon people... I think we have a problem.

Hardware maker is to blame for faulty/ bad design, fix it hTC!, stop making phones with the same poorly designed Ports that people keep reporting break!!!

I am going to be some kinda mad the day mine goes out...From all the posts/comments it looks like it's not a matter of if, it's when...

Just add another one to the list, mine is doing a similar thing. It will charge but doesn't connect well enough to sync to my PC. I called VZW but I bought my phone used to they wont do anything, HTC will repair it but I have to send it in and that has a 2 week turnaround. I found a couple places online to buy a charging port so that may be my solution. Not fun.

My wife's Dinc2 was stricken by this as well. Got a refurb from VZW under warranty and then had to get a second refurb when the first one had a bad mic and no one could hear her over the phone. Either way...major pain in the butt... One bright spot is that VZW was very good with the warranty returns...minimal trouble there. Can't help but wonder how much time my Dinc2 charger port has left...

My Incredible 2 died today due to the failure of the charge port. What a waste of $$, unfortunately, I bought mine from ebay so no replacement for me (just bought in July). So I bit the bullet and got an iphone. The incredible 2 was a nice phone, but it only lasted seven months. It seems we all got scammed.

My first incredible S worked for about 6 months before it stopped charging or data connecting via usb. I sent it in, the mainboard was replaced by Virgin Mobile and the new one worked fine for almost a month before it stopped charging again. I'm waiting on a 3rd replacement from Virgin... third time's a charm, right?

On another note, same as dbqandersons, mine also had a bad mic before I sent it in for warranty.

its all HTC and idiot engineers that decide to put the charge port on the side where it gets stressed when you pull it to make phone calls.

we all know you have to leave them Dang thing plugged in lest you kill the battery in 2 hrs.

My charging port went bad (my fault, I tripped over the cable while it was plugged in), and VZW sent me a refurb under warranty about 3 weeks ago. I've had no issues with the refurb; it's working fine.

I think it was either right before or right after he took the mother board all the way off that you could briefly see the charging port. It looks like it is very exposed and like it would be quite easy once you got that far.
I hope I never have to do it

Side note,
Browsing this page on my phone and running condemned cm 7 and the page told me to get the iPhone app for Android forums.

When did you get your DInc2, Rev? They told me the warranty was for a year. I was kind of surprised that something this complicated that gets jostled around as much as a phone does would be guaranteed for a full year.

And the VZW rep was cool about it, too - she could have said that since it was my fault (I tripped over the charging cable), the warranty didn't cover it. But they replaced it with no problems.

I guess that means I have a couple weeks I just kind of assumed it had been over a year. I love this phone but I have a short attention span.

I've had 8, yes 8 Dinc 2's all with a charging port issue, the latest refurbed one fro VZW started acting up a few days ago and VZW wouldn't replace it because it's out of warranty by 4 days so I ordered the part on Ebay for $9 and fixed it myself it's actually one of the easier phones I've ever taken apart and after about an hour of tedious work it works great now. Just wanted to let others know about my experience.

I am attempting to fix a charging port for a friend on their inc2. It is a replacement from asurion and now asurion dropped him! When I opened it up, it was just taped on the shield on the board and the flex cable was connected into the white clasp. What does the charge port even connect to!? Would I just be able to solder it onto the board? i have been staring at it forever and can't find anything related online but can someone help by telling me how the charging port sends the electricity to the battery? maybe then i will figure out how to ge tthe charging port back on to the board.
