That's Motorola pre-merger. I'd be very surprised if Motorola didn't change this approach once the merger is finalized.

I read about that also. The only thing I'd wonder about Google doing this is, will the providers and/or manufacturers actually be okay with that? Adding more "Google" phones would mean less influence over proprietary bloatware that the providers always like to add on. 1 Device (e.g. Nexus phone) is fine, but to add 3-4 phones to a lineup...that can impact both the providers and manufacturers.

And you better believe, if Google goes against their word and decides to keep everything "in house" (e.g. Googlrola), what does that mean for the competitors like Samsung and HTC that have made Nexus phones in the past?

people like us here a moderate to heavy user...uhhhh NO

avg users??? probably over 50% would say NO...

they would rather have a smoother running phone....

and one that gets updated a little quicker...i mean all the CRAP they have to check that it runs ok with....shheeeshhhh

i actually liked my epic UI...and the MOTO hasnt been bad....and i started with a hero...so early sense was ok...


just dont shove it down our throat

Totally agree. I rarely use any of the bloatware. Since Sprint actually formed their new partnership with the NBA, I'm actually using their NBA app, which is pretty darn good, but other than that...ugh. Even some of the Moto stuff is bleh.

Nontheless, I don't know what's gonna happen now that Motorola was found guilty on infringing on one of Microsoft's patents, resulting in a ban of certain Motorola devices being imported here.

Seriously...out of control. But again, I'm totally not surprised microsoft and apple are both going about it the way they are.

It's done. This combined with the rumors of multiple Nexus models for the J version of Android gives me hope that we'll see a vanilla Moto phone this year.

Yup. Read that on the Motorola Twitter feed. Been too busy on the day job to search through info, but it's a step in the right direction (hopefully).

This is an article that has some good quotes from Woodbridge, who is the new CEO of Motorola (San Jih stepped down...excuse the mis-spelling)

My favorite quote that actually applies to this thread:

“This is a huge opportunity to really show what Android can do in a well-designed, well-packaged, and well-marketed product.”

For those not familiar with Woodbridge, it explains about him in detail and how Apple's new CEO was trying to steal him away fro Google. What's funny is, he's already been at Google for so long, I'm almost willing to bet that all future Motorola phones will be pure vanilla Android. There's no redeeming value to their going with "proprietary" UI because that would really flip back to being a "Google" UI.

Overall, this would be nice to see, considering all Moto android phones up till now have been skinned and bloated all to hell. I have a hard time believing that Google won't influence Motorola to release at least one handset with a vanilla OS. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
