I think he's saying that there could be people purposely posting false information or planting seeds of unrest to get us all riled up. Let's be honest, that's getting easier these days as the anxiety around a possible announcement or release draws nearer.

In other words, he's suggesting not to react to purposely inflammatory or "fanboyish" responses because they are "baiting the bears."

FWIW, I think he might be right.
Considering almost EVERYTHING right now is non-official, everything should be taken with a grain of salt, so I still do not see his point (if indeed that is his point). And if there are people wasting their own personal time to try and defer people into other directions, then theres nothing you can do to stop that. That can occur at any time, on any forum. That doesn't mean I'm going to browse through all my tech forums with a sense of paranoia. If you honestly put THAT much faith into a random person on the internet's proposition then I'd hate to see how many people are able to take advantage of you. And if you're implying that AT&T is paying people to come in here and spark a fire, well, Wonderbread already cleared that up. How many people in here are honestly going to be influenced(reletive to, well, the rest of the UNITED STATES)?

Trust me. Nothing to be paranoid of. Take every speculation as what it is: speculation. Wait for the official announcements, then start counting your pennies.

Can I get a confirmation on what time the doors open for CTIA on the 23rd? I need to be on this thread when the Incredible starts to get coverage. :D

And has anyone heard of any live blogs (ala Engadget, Cnet, BGR, etc..) going up for CTIA coverage? - I think its the next best thing to actually being there, unless theres some kind of live stream I'm not aware of.

Verizon, AT&T win FCC auction, Google wins open spectrum
(AFP) – Mar 20, 2008
SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) — US telecom giants Verizon Wireless and AT&T on Thursday took home the big prizes in a record-setting US wireless spectrum auction while Google got the open access it eagerly craves...

Thanks, Good find. I remember reading that. Verizon won huge spectrum. As far as the comments from Google, they may very well still be true today, however that article was dated 2 years ago. It is possible that Google's plans have changed.

Flash or no flash I don't think a 3MP bump will make the pictures that much better. Just for comparison purposes. I have 2 digicams: an old 3.2MP sony and a 10.1MP sony and both take better pictures than the 5MP Eris.

My point is, we are all hoping for a higher MP camera for example when in reality it won't really be that great of a camera since all the important, high-quality hardware guts that are in a dedicated digicam aren't in the phone and are instead controlled by pieces of software that can't hope in it's wildest dreams to replicate the quality of a digital camera. In case I confused anyone with that what I mean is, I'd rather my Incredible have a 5MP camera if another piece of hardware could use those R&D funds to be improved instead. Drop my Incredible's MP from 8 to 5 and give me a secondary mic for noise cancellation and say a better set of touch buttons than the 4 on the Eris. Is that too much to ask?

Been trolling this forum for the past few days and decided to write.

I have noticed that cameras on phones haven't been progressing as fast as they should. And it has nothing to do with the mega pixels.

I used to have an LG Dare (which would shut down every couple of hours for no reason, but I digress) and it had a 3.2 mega pixel camera on it with a flash (diode). I rarely used the flash and this thing took great pictures. I even blew one up to an 8x10 (you could only see pixelation if you got really close). I got sick of this phone shutting off on me all the time and opted to get a refurbed LG Chocolate Touch. Same camera (3.2 MP) and no flash, but I didnt use it that much anyways. The pictures that I took with that camera don't even come close to comparing with the Dare (this makes no sense because the phone is from the same company) and it got me thinking. Why would these two cameras (same MPs) from the same company be so different. The lens.

If you want good pictures, you need a good lens. Doesn't matter how many MPs you have (this is true with any camera. In fact, if you aren't going to blow a picture up to poster size, you don't need anything more than 6: its all marketing). So this phone, I'm guessing (and praying) that they use some decent optics. Because, if the lens sucks, theres no way 8MP is going to save you.

I think if they changed it would be to allow other companies to use their spectrum but all features of Google must be on the phones or computers.

I've been reading this whole post for about 2 weeks. Yeah it took me a while to catch up completely, but have not posted yet.

So i was wondering what is the actual possibility that CTIA will be the announcement/launch/release date of the Incredible. We have all the specs, even pics of the device w/ verizon branding. But what are the logical outlook at CTIA being a massive headline for HTC/Verizon partnership?

Solid first post. You are dead-on with this observation, as the picture quality is so much dependent on the lense. People put too much stock into the word "megapixel" and, for the most part, don't truly understand the meaning of it. This is then taken advantage of by companies who can give you a crappy lense with a "10 megapixel" camera, where the consumer will believe they are getting top quality pictures. Like you, I truly hope that this is not the case with the Incredible, and that we do get solid optics to match the high megapixel rating.

There are not a whole heck of alot of big press events after CTIA. So unless the Incredible is being horribly delayed its CTIA or we're waiting for a Verizon presser.

This thread reminds me of the thread of doom over at the Verizon forums, when the Omnia 2 seemed to take forever to come out, we got to 820 pages in that forum thread, just to be sorely disapointed with the amoled 800mHz laggy Samsung phone.

We waited almost 6 months after that phone was rumoured to come out, I just hope Verizon doesen't drag their feet like that with this release.

HD2 on the 24th for sure for me, If we have no rock solid news by then...I don't have a phone currently it's driving me batty.

Again, and certainly not trying to argue (kind of beyond my point in originally posting the article) you may very well be right on. Or, Google may not have changed its plans since that article was published at all. Or, Google may have hatched an emergency, Hail-Mary plan to thwart Steven Paul "Blow" Jobs and his army of jagaloons from dominating the technological world.

Any way you slice it, I don't see Google's continued development as a bad thing.

Now, here's to hoping we get official confirmation and a launch date soon so we can stop speculating and start dominating:cool:

Agreed. But don't forget about sensor size, too. Even little point and shoot Canon's with 14Mpx cameras have so much pixel density shoved on the sensor, that the noise gets unbearable at a much lower ISO setting. I don't mind the pictures from my Dare, but they're not great.

I think with the Incredible, it'll be a pretty good camera for a phone, but it's certainly not going to take the place of any camera I've got. The lens on the Incredible doesn't look too bad, but we don't know if it's glass, plastic, decent optical grade, or anything. It's something a lot of people overlook, and it's unfortunate.
