I know that this thread has probably been created before, but thought I'd refresh it for this Mytouch thread and new users. (Use Barcode Scanner from the market to scan the QR Codes and download the apps)

Personal favorite and most customizable in my opinion is Sweeter Home 2

SHQR.png

This barcode won't take you to the market, because this newer version isn't in the market, but it is safe and beautiful! You have 5 screen in a cross format + A center, left, right, up, down. Very unique! All free!

There are tons of themes already made by users of it, and you can edit and create your own. You can have text windows, picture windows, contacts windows, application trays, widgets, all on your home screen. Its amazing! Trust me its the best!

Panda Home

This is probably the next most customizable, its pretty neat with the features that it allows, the only trouble is its Chinese designed so sometimes its difficult to get much help with problems. But over it is improving very quickly and is quite good! You can have 1-11 screens. There are hideable docks you can fill with apps, which follow you to whichever screen you are on. Limited number of themes, but many on the coming. However, you can apply OpenHome and I believe Ahome themes. Free!

FreshFace

This is the home replacement that Tmobile puts in their app pack, its not the best, its quite memory intensive, most home replacements are, but there are limited features to it and its not very customizable. You can have 3, 5, or 7 screens. Limited number of downloadable themes. Free!

dxTop

For purchase for $2.99

I haven't tried it. But this is what I know about it. Tons of themes! Many free, but many for sale about $0.99 - $1.99. There are two customizable drawers that pull up from the bottom of the screen. One for all the apps, the other for most recent or running apps. 4 or 5 screens Up, down, left, right. There is a dock you can add apps to at the bottom of the screen. Can create folders and organize apps. Can apply a lot of themes, icons, and some great customizations.

OpenHome - $3.99, many free themes, many paid themes too. Lite version available.

Sweet! This is really improving! Its always been pretty great, but now with version 4 there are some great new features. Tons of themes. And great customizations. Can create multiple screens. I really like this one, its another favorite of mine. Developed by the same people that make Better Keyboard, which is a great keyboard, can have custom skins on your keyboard that will match your theme.

Ahome $4.99, Free themes, paid themes. Lite version also.

Made by the same developers that create FreshFace. Very customizable. Can have multiple screens. One great thing about this app is that there are two trays on the lower part of the screen, to the left and right, where you can have the a search on the left and then a drawer for apps on the right. Another neat feature is instead of the traditional drawer button at the bottom there is a place where some default apps are - dialer, contacts, browser, and maps. Its a nice idea! A lot of themes, very fun!

Home++ Beta Free

chart

This has an interesting wrap around screen, you continuously scroll to the right or left which then circles back around to the same screen you started from. The homescreen is very nice, it shows the date, time, etc, the battery, phone signal, at the bottom, on what is called a power strip. You can scroll along this strip with small icons of contacts, dialer, browser, apps drawer, notifications, bookmarks, a task manager, and then the normal items seen at the top of the screen. Number of screens can be between 3 -7. The main homescreen has a rotating clock widget with date. Many other customizations. Like it!

GDE - The New Home Experience about $3.75

chart

Its a rotating cube. The different screens are located on a cube that is rotated, however this can changed to just fade in and out of side by side screens. Customizable and very interesting, however I haven't used it, it does seem to have its features. Its new and still has some force closes. Give it a try. There are many different skins, just search for GDE in the market.

SlideScreen Pro $6.99, free version also

chart

There is a free version, but with some limited features. This replacement is incredibly unique! There are bars. with text, twitter, contacts, finances, calendar, etc. Everything is color coded to indicate differences between the different categories. I would say the best way to understand this concept is to follow the link and watch the video, or just download it and try it yourself. Its very smooth and developed well. Very nice home app!

These are all that I can think of. I would personally suggest that you try all of them. They each have this interesting parts. Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Does the phone slow down a lot by using this type of home apps?

It really depends on which ones you use. Some are optimized more than others and so they are more efficient - I would say those would be SlidesScreen, Sweeter Home, Panda Home, and probably dxTop and OpenHome. The others do slow down your phone, and these will too just not as much.

When it says it containts bugs and quirks and to use at my own risk. Is there anything in there that could really hurt my phone?

Which app says that? Sweeter home? If it is, that's just because it wasn't downloaded from the market, don't worry about, I use it all the time, I definitely trust the developer he isn't out to get you. And any bugs listed at just performance bugs like may slow it down or cause a force close here or there, not anything that will act like a computer virus. Hope that helps!

Alright thanks again. I'll download it and see how it goes!

Edit: Lol, knew something would delay me haha. Which link do I click for my phone Android 2.0, 1.6 or 1.5?

1.6. You can check this firmware version by going to Settings --> About Phone, and there is says Firmware Version and it says 1.6, all Mytouchs have 1.6 unless they are rooted with an Eclair Rom, version 2.0 or 2.1 doesn't come to the Mytouch until this spring or summer.

Downloaded it, seems kind of odd. Maybe I'm just used to the regular thing. But do I have to use that layout it gives me? Can I just add the up and down slide to my regular home screen?

I'm afraid that as of right now you must keep the up - down - left - right- center screens.

Now, press Menu, then Themes. This will load all the themes and designs made by other users who want to make them. I'd say press menu again, then search, then for author go search for lemon. Go to HotDock, its the best one I think.

Then to design or add to the layout press Menu, then edit theme. Every tray that is on that page will come up and tap and the one you select you can edit, press menu --> more --> edit and you can change the imaging, borders, backgrounds, etc. There is a lot of customizing that can go on with this home replacement. To get some tutorials I would go to www.sweeterskins.net there a lot of information on there.

I don't believe it has, on their forum page at XDA Development, that was last updated January 20, that was a little while ago, but I don't think its a super long time between version updates. What makes you say that?

Many reasons :
- he was used to update very often (every 5 to 10 days) : GDE - The new home experience! for Android - Tools
- he doesn't answer on XDA forum (where he create the post when he created the beta, and his 'official page')
- many people complains of FCs, it's strange to doesn't solve anything (or at least trying) during more than 20 days in that situation.

Hmmm, yeah, that would be reasons to believe he doesn't do it anymore, I'll look around and see what I can find. I didn't even really use that one, but I'll see what other people know.

I downloaded panda home, no idea how to add the extra screens though lol. Haha help?

Long press on the homescreen and instead of selecting widgets, or shortcuts, etc, there should be a Panda selection, go there and you can customize it quite a bit. I believe the number of homescreens is there, otherwise just drag something to the edge of the end screen and keep pushing it over, I think that still works.

I use PandaHome which is pretty nice although the number of themes are somewhat limited at the moment. At least I found one I like. I wouldn't touch Fresh Face with a ten foot pole. Every time I've tried it (several), it has caused problems. One time it took everything I could muster to get my phone to the home screen just so I could uninstall the darn thing. Never again.

You can use OpenHome themes for PandaHome too, just so you know, and there are a ton of them.

Does anyone know where I can find WIDGETS for my Open Home? You know how when your using the main theme and you have email & SMS widgets? Heck, I'm really just looking for the calendar that takes up one of the whole pages, transparent! I cannot find it! Is it just me or is there a lot less widgets with home themes?

I'd say that Pure Grid Calendar widget is the best calendar, its size can be changed, and there are a lot of different themes that you can download with it. It is like $1.99, but its really nice! Download it for a day for free and try it out. As for other widgets, what kind of widgets are you looking for, ones that match the theme or just Email and SMS widgets in general?

Thanks for the calender idea. Just widgets n general...it's like there's a lot of apps for them but not a lot of applicable applications. Make since? I'd like the mail widget again.

Also, I currently have Open Home, it's OK.... the only reason I keep it is because the slide out bar (dont know name 4 it) The thing that stays on every.page & holds many short cuts to application. Is there another "home" theme that has that feature? I did read above @ sweeter home 2, sweethome do they have that feature?, Which do u use? I know Panda (has black out screens) ,ahome (some say its NOT recommend 4 Droid), & Openhome ( FCs ALL THE TIME, & really runs slow...) Thank u for your TIME & HELP! Hope it made since..lol
