Compare, contrast, opinions: GSIII vs EVO 4G LTE / Sprint-CDMA-S4 only

From what I have always understood it was that GSM tech uses less battery than CDMA tech, don't know how or why or how accurate that is, I just remember reading about it. But I do agree that CDMA shouldn't change the battery life that much to make it suck, especially with the bigger battery.

My problem is that I set my expectations on silicon, not bloggers.

If the LTEvo uses superior technology radio chips, then just like the S4, they ought suck less power.

If they use last year's tech, then they ought do no worse than my 3vo, and I get great battery performance on that, considering the tech.

Did you see the rumor of the Japan version or the GS3 (with the S4) getting 2GB of Ram? I wonder if the US version will see the same specs seeing as it's rumored for the S4 chip as well.

I doubt we'll see it now, but if the SGS3 came to me with 2 GB ram, it would be game over for me. I would wait and give it a go, no questions.

It's probably because I have keratoconus in one eye and it's messing with my vision. haha

And that's cool, but we really all see differently.

Beginning with quantum effects in our eyes, and rolling up to the fact that we don't see with our eyes - we see with our eye-brain combinations.

No one, not one us, has perfect vision. ;)

Sounds like the GIII could be the better option according to this review:

Samsung Galaxy S III vs HTC One X

This is the final paragraph ( I am not a phone fanboy for the record. I had the Samsung Instinct and wanted to set it on fire).

"Well, folks, it should have become clear by now that the Galaxy S III will once again rule the land of Android, at least until a better contender arrives on the scene. For now, however, the powerful HTC One X isn't capable enough to question its leadership. Although HTC's offering is arguably better when it comes to appearance and overall design, the Galaxy S III is unbeatable as far as user experience goes and that's what's more important. Why would you need a good-looking phone that takes mediocre images and video, and as a number of nasty issues in its software? Meanwhile, the Galaxy S III may not be the most beautiful phone ever, but it does everything right in terms of functionality, meaning it will cause you far less trouble during day-to-day usage.

Once again, HTC's finest will have to play second-best to the Galaxy S phone of the year."

Well I think their opinion is a bit misguided. If I want a better user experience, I would go with a Nexus device. In a few more months, Google will come out with Jelly Bean and apparently a slew of options according to reports.

I think that if you like a vibrant screen, the Sammy is the winner. I think that if you care about color accuracy, the LTEvo is the winner.

I've never been a fan of the AMOLED screens (colors look unnaturally boosted to me), but check out the comparison screenshots posted earlier.

The color accuracy looks better on the Sammy. Like we've already discussed though, these are just pictures of a screen, and it will take in-person viewing to decide which you prefer.

Not to say I'm correct, but rather that this whole thing is subjective:

I find the color accuracy of the Samsung AMOLED screens to be consistently cooler in color temp. I use color-corrected monitors for work and at home, and samsung phone screens in comparison are always way skewed toward blue. Note the skin tone in the HTC image is much warmer, and in my eyes, looks more natural. But to know for sure, I'd want to know where she was standing: in shadow, sunny day, overcast, etc.

OLED blue phosphors degrade faster than red and green, so by designs blues are accentuated more. This is what accounts for all AMOLED screens having that bluish tint. If it's all you look at, your brain will white balance it away, but if you're used to looking at color-corrected screens, the AMOLED colors appear really, really off.

I'm gonna have to say no thanks on that case, imo, it's rather ugly. And I am sure there will be a white EVO. I'll just wait haha :p

Aww, here I thought it was nice, clean, simple.... I kind of like it! But yeah it would be nicer if there was just a white model, I totally agree :)

*******
I haven't looked much at the GSIII specs but my first impression from just the info. on the samsung site is "blech" - it seems dumbed-down to me. Keep in mind that I haven't done a lot of reading on it but if for some reason the EVO 4G LTE never actually pans out, I'll just stick with my Shift until something better comes along :D

See I think the HTC looks more natural to me. The Sammy phones have a blue hue.

You are telling me that people will allow and actually WANT a live device watching them ALL THE TIME!?! You've got to be kidding me...

I agree, I think it's creepy. I know it's just a phone but I don't want my phone to make me feel uncomfortable! I've been playing with Jeannie/Voice Actions (a Siri-like program for Android) and sometimes it almost feels like there's a real person behind that voice and it's just.. awkward :p Now my phone will always be watching me? No thanks!

I do like the auto call when held to face thingy. I could see myself using a feature like that sometimes. as of now it's rare that from texting or a contact page that I end up calling the person, otherwise why not just call from jump, but at times it could be useful....

This feature... what if I'm texting someone and suddenly remember I need to call someone else? Does the phone just dial the person you were texting whether you like it or not? And I don't like the idea that Samsung thinks it's so hard for me to make a phone call myself, so my phone has to do it for me automatically. I'm afraid technology is making people dumber and lazier in some ways by trying to do everything for us. Our phones are tools (& toys :D ) to help us out but I don't want it doing my thinking for me.

I love how we have so many choices of phones, and we can download apps to customize ours like crazy, but those 2 features are things I can definitely live without.

I don't think you Sammy supporters have a valid argument anymore... This pretty much sums up why the EVOLTE is better.

Funny review, I don't follow all the phone reviewers out there but that guy looks like he's about 10 yrs old :p And his arguments... "it's ugly", "the screen is too big" and "it's not made by Apple"... everyone has their own opinions of what looks good in a phone, screen size, etc. - this is why I'm glad we have so many choices of platform and OS :)

That, and it wasn't even made by apple. You can so obviously tell! ;)

I think that kid is a freaking genius.

[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhhJ04lWouk]HTC One X Sucks! - YouTube

He has to be the next great satirist of our time.

The SGS3 sux so bad, I had to get my Grammy one, and the final comment in the One X vid...

Genius! :) :D

Haha funny enough, after I posted the SG3 video here, I went back to the One X forums to check the thread from when I posted the One X video there. 75 percent of the people took it seriously lmao.

I gotta thank you for both of them. :)

I can afford a One X, but I'm eating plain bread for dinner.

That's it, I'm subscribing! :D

It's Engadget. They are going to be shocked, shocked! I say, and amazed that the iPhone 5 will beat them both.

Anyway, it was better than nothing. Looks like differences are more in the software, because the hardware coverage was sensational.

Confirmed the high data rates for video though, so I expect them to be maybe smoother on the SGS3.
