Root [CDMA] Hboot 1.5 and new ICS roms

The firmware isn't necessary for the new ROMs. It was believed that they were needed at first, but later found to not be necessary. You might not have working 4G though.

Ok I flashed the firmware via twrp 1.1.1 and now my phone won't boot past the splash screen. When I try to run the ruu 2.17 exe to restore it, it fails. Says I do not have a current image and it will not upgrade to any ruu what so ever. I'm 1.5 s-on unlocked.
Is there a way to say it or temp brick it from this state so I can run the downgrade or am I "fxcked"

How did you flash in recovery? why did you flash in recovery? have you flashed firmware upgrades in recovery before? have you tried to boot into recovery via fastboot and reflash a rom or restore a backup?

It was named pg86img and flashes the zip like a rom then the rom itself, and I tried to restore the back up I made but it wasn't from that specific recovery, do you think if I pushed the twrp 2.1 touch recovery it would restore the image and such? The back up was made on my 1.4 rooted meanrom. 4.2

You should be able to flash the rom without any firmware upgrades, the firmware is for virgin mobile and may screw you up if you flash it. Try booting into recovery via fastboot and wiping everything then flashing the rom and you should be good to go. If this does not work, you may need to wait for an official release to use Sprint's firmware as opposed to Virgin Mobile.

You definitely want to downgrade the hboot but only of you have experience with that kind of technique or if you can follow instructions to a T. You shouldn't have a problem as far as the downgrade process goes, jerofld (misspelled maybe) has very good advice and has thread that are very detailed. there is no such thing as fail in this forum
If you have any ? About the process and run into any issues you can always message me on here and ill give a speedy reply, I ran into every situation possible when it can to the downgrade and finally found a solution for all of them.

Goodluck
