BoostedICS, Gummy, CM9 and AOKP.

The X is not dead... we are entering the GOLDEN AGE!

I just ordered an extended battery (and cover) and new case. The :adore: Droid X will be in my pocket for the rest of 2012.

I have all of those ROMs on my nandroid, and while this one takes the longest to boot up. After it does, it just flies. What is also sweet is that it gives you screen options to use instead of your buttons. I have not overclocked it yet and it is already the fastest ROM. The blank screen for a while at the end of your first boot is scary to say the least, but don't worry that's normal. It includes Apex from the get go and is integrated very nicely. If you are a gamer and looking for raw performance, this is the ticket. Also multitasks better than any V6 supercharger settings I have ever tried.

Edit: you may have to tweak the screen brightness settings as they have the adjusted kinda low to extend battery life. Which is good unless you are in a well lit room. Still a relatively minor issue that can be fixed easily.

On screen buttons are nice when you're not used to them, then it's painful to push them. :D

Onscreen buttons make everything go faster and save that wear and tear I want to avoid. Plus on a screen the size of the X's the real estate they really hurt as much as you think it would. Once they get the autobrighness is worked out, I just have mine set to 35% now, it is nearly "daily driver" status for me. Although I'm starting to wonder if the hardware acceleration will ever be fixed on any of these CM9 ROMs. Seems like someone could just use and old version of flash and make a couple of shortcut tweaks and make it work. Ah well.

Update:
The good and bad.
The bad news is that is boots into a blank screen and you have to press the power button to bring up the lock screen on boot.
The good news is that on Droid quick clock it auto set the maximum to 1450. Even the "balanced" settings are at 1300. That is freaking amazing on a DX. HDMI works and the camcorder works.

Overall I still feel this is the #1 ICS ROM hands down. Some customization, very stable, and very fast (especially with multitasking). Still too early to judge battery life.

What doesn't work.
Netflix and flash (same as all ICS DX ROMs)
Auto brightness
Boot to lock screen requires power button push

I'm thinking of upgrading to a new phone in the next couple of months, and am eligible for an upgrade now, maybe it's time to finally try rooting and ROMing this thing! That way, even if I do manage to brick it, at least I can use my upgrade to replace it!
Yes! Do it. No Flash, HQ youtube, camcorder and a couple of other things in the ICS ROMs.

If you can live without that, you'll have a new phone if you upgrade to an ICS ROM.

No matter what I tell you, you won't believe me regarding the night and day difference in speed, responsiveness and everything else between stock GB and an ICS ROM.

I've tried Gummy and AOKP so far. Both are pretty much the same.

It's definitely held me over until a phone worthy of holding on to for 2 years comes out.

I every completely screwed up the upgrade and had to SBF back via the linux live CD method. It wasn't that bad. It'd take a lot to totally brick it.

Yeah, I saw that video recording was working on the latest, and not too worried about HD YouTube, dont watch that much. Also, i don't record video in HD anyways, framerate isn't good enough, I only record in DVD at the highest anyways. And I don't use Chrome, so no worries. only thing I'm nervous about is the rooting, I've never used Linux before, but good to hear I can just boot it off a CD, I wasn't going to rebuild a system just to install Linux so I could root!

The really easy way is to download the 1KSD.ISO file. The use a program called unetbootin, I think, to create the boot USB. No Linux knowledge required at all. No commands even. Just hit 1 then 1 then 2. You phone is .604 and rooted. It's much easier than a sbf even.

Awesome, thanks! And that's the file you have listed above, correct? This sounds easier than I thought it was!

Edit: By "listed above," I mean the link in the how to root from windows thread, lol!

Downloaded build 3 version 56 or how every he is naming them :)

Making a nandroid then going to flash, hope battery and wifi are better on this one.

EDIT: Step backward, no 3g voice, but ironically I had 3g data. And my lose it app that was working on build 42 is not working on this one. Going back to CM9 for a bit, will try this next build to see. Going to post feedback once I get my account verified by email.

Where did you find build 3? I checked the thread and it seems to still say build 2. Also the nightlies don't seem to be getting updated.
