Help User Reviews of The HTC EVO 4G LTE

Have you tried resetting it through the boot loader? Sometimes that makes a difference.
im still on phone with them so have not tried anything else, they are sending me to my 5th person, they say they cant fix and i need a new device. no way im sure i will have one until monday is my guess. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr im trying to be nice as they pass me around. each new person is not to blame, but really, get me off this call stream please. im going to lose my mind if i have o go without a phone for a while? i switched my old evo to my wifes line already grrrrrrrrr

No it's not. It's HTC's decision to have the recent app button instead of the menu button. If it was a Android 4.0 thing the GS3 would also have a recent app button, but it has a menu button. It's up to the manufacturer what buttons they want or if they even want buttons.

Are you sure? Because 4.0 changed the position of the menu button. (from bottom to top right ideally). Plus, the nexus does not have a menu button on the bottom either and that's pure android - no chaser.

Sounds like you need a re-provisioning of the device?
If you get someone at Sprint who knows what they are doing they can walk you through the reset steps that will give you a full re-activation that will re-configure the connectivity.
They can also force your handset to fully reset remotely.
Ask for a high level technician.

EarlyMon has had experiences with this process and probably has some good advice.
If the re-provisioning does not work then you may have a bad radio or be a candidate for a new handset. (I always quite enjoy when the rare occasion rises and Early starts to talk about citrus fruits and how they smell)

Has anyone else been noticing sense crashes over and over once you exit an app? Any app for that matter or is it just me? :(

I recommend trying to read up on the issue on other devices. The One X for example. (gather some information)

If I was you I'd unload all the (cr)apps, take out your microSD and start over. Something is probably conflicting with Sense.

I will make a short post before I hit the bed. So far this phone is amazing. It is way lighter and slimmer then I expected but its a good quality light. It dosent feel cheap. The only thing I dislike are the hardware buttons on the bottom, no search and menu buttons so your constantly looking for both on different apps. Its just something we will get used

I cant make calls, and it reboots every time i try, other than that when the phone is off it looks GREAT and when it is on the Home screen it looks GREAT. I just cant make or recieve any phone calls? Kind of a problem. I am a loyal sprint, HTC, and evo fan though so I am being patient after two and a half hours of working on trying to get it set up and functioning and now i get to call tech support

I was having issues getting mine to activate, until I turned off my old phone.

Screen is absolutely beautiful, destroys iPhone for sure. Even with a slightly lower pixel density I don't think it matters, way more real estate and the colors really pop. It is wonderfully light and thin, even with a BBY Platinum (Seido) case it is slightly thinner than my OG without a case.

Haven't done much processor intensive yet, still have to get a lot of apps back on, but she does seem to fly through screens. No hesitation loading anything as of yet. I got hardware version 3 (which means nothing or everything depending on whom you ask :D) Have had no issues with crashes, calls, texts, anything at all. Kickstand is nice and solid, seems to work well, can be hard to get out at first.

Speaker is crisper than my OG, but not as loud. OG at 80% is slightly softer and at 90% is slightly louder. So mine is about 85% as loud as my OG. Doesn't seem to affect headphones as much. Hard to tell much difference with beats audio thru regular headphones, but I can tell a slight difference.

Camera seems to be really nice, definitely an improvement on the OG. Not sure about low light and movement being improved very much tho in my limited tests so far (try waving hand in front of lens while taking bursts, couldn't get any clear ones even with a fairly "medium" speed wave-wasn't the greatest light at the time tho too.)

Basically, I LOVE IT!!!

But:

That glossy back is a smudge magnet. Devices meant to be "touched" should NEVER have that kind of finish, my Toshiba laptop does as well and I cannot stress how much I hate glossy finishes like that. They get way too smudged way too easily.

Sense bugging me, but I'm used to Cyanogen, so that's to be expected. I actually like a lot of Sense widgets, I can handle most of the home screen differences. It's the lack of customization you can find losing yourself for hours in the ADW and CM settings menus I miss. I want to change a lot of the basic ways I interact with the phone in very minor ways and stock Sense (or vanilla Android for that matter) doesn't give you those options.

Absolute fail on the new hardkey changes tho, I want my menu and search buttons back, recent apps can bite me. No reason to waste real estate on the touchscreen when you have a dedicated portion of the phone to place 4 buttons that fit perfectly well. I am very used to long press home for recent apps, menu to show/hide keyboard, back to kill app, and search for voice search. I literally used them ALL THE FREAKING TIME. The first thing I always did (and told anyone else to do) was delete the google search widget from my homescreen, I had a dang button for it. Now I have to waste space for a widget or button on the screen to get the same result. Hopefully CM will give us an option to re-map that useless recent apps button and go back to long presses so we can have at least 6 hardkey options instead of 3.

Ok, I'm a bit lost here:

Phone Storage = SD Card
Internal Storage = internal phone ram

Is this correct? And I thought I could move apps over to SD card? I guess it's if it's specifically programmed for it.

Phone storage = a separate partition of storage (Virtual SD card is a way to think of it)
SD card = portable storage
Ram = not storage in the sense of saving thing, it allow and determines how many app and program that can be ran on the phone!

Hope this helps!;)

Please see the FAQ for phone storage, you'll be glad you did. ;)

PS - buying advice moved to the prerelease thread.

Is there a way to disable the native lock screen? I have to have a password/key on the phone for my work email server. I really don't want to have to go through two lock screens.

I was also having problems with my contacts syncing. They are there now but I keep getting a sync/! symbol at the top that sync is unavailable.

Also not happy with Sprint that they couldn't figure out how to port my corporate work number over with three Verizon emails explaining it. Of course they didn't want me to send the info to them.

I'm squarely on the fence about using my upgrade without a live lte network. But at this speed, I could easily put up with it. Are other people getting speeds as good as this?
Don't think I ever got 3G speeds like this on my OG EVO or the 3D!

If you haven't tried calling another EVO 4G LTE, the HD voice thing is quite amazing. Crystal clear like I have never heard before.

This must be a testament to the high quality of the earpiece and voice calls, especially between Evo 4G LTEs. Because HD Voice is not implemented until later in the year. Think Fall/Winter 2012. ;) If you think this is HD now, just wait until the real thing.

Not much else to say about the phone that hasn't been said here on the forums are in other online reviews. Accept LTEVO lives up to everything reported and more. I can tell you about other people reactions to it, which is hilarious :) I stopped into Blockbuster to pick up a movie. Cashier asked "How's is your day?" Great and pulled out my LTEVO and said "here's why" His first response was "what is that?" I told him and mentioned just got it today. He pulled out his IPhone and it was halarious. His IPhone looked like a nintendo gameboy from 90's. He was embarrassed and I was embarrassed for him.

Next was Starbucks. I figured what better place to pop out a kickstand :) You know how you can always sense people staring, yep when you get your LTEVO you can expect that. I notice iphone folks weren't feeling so smug. 1 guy actually put away his iphone and he picked up a newspaper and started reading that instead :D

Lastly, I popped into the grocery store at the checkout stand I noticed the cashier eyeballing my phone. I told him go ahead hold it. He grab it with both hands and held it up as to say what kind of witchcraft is this. very funny :) Good day with LTEVO :)

At home and work I'm getting about 1 mbps down. Going around town it fluctuates highly. I won't know what kind of speeds I'm getting at school till Tuesday because of the holiday weekend.

I should mention the last time I had Sprint my down at work and home was between 100 kbps and 300 kbps on 3G, so this is a big improvement (although still not amazing speeds overall, but I'm okay with that until LTE comes live in Los Angeles).

Thanks. Yes, call quality is very good.

Also, my rep failed to follow any guide ... probably mentioned, but

Turn OFF LTE

4G LTE – Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Network Mode > LTE/CDMA or CDMA.

o IMPORTANT: TURN OFF FOR THE CUSTOMER IF YOU ARE NOT IN AN LTE MARKET by selecting CDMA.

Your battery will thank you.

Dont forget your 25GB of Dropbox storage.

Edit: some reason the following is tied to my google acct. When I added my acct to the other phone, it too instantly has 7 updates. Odd.

Also, find it odd 1 phone has 7 app updates out of the box ... the other? Only 2..

The 7 are Gmail, Movies, Google+, Maps, Shopper, SoundHound (wth!?) and Streeview.

The 2 are Maps and Shopper.

What's even more strange.. both running
Gmail 4.0.4-292727
Movies 1.4.9
Same version of Google + ...

Gonna assume all are same version. Thing is, I don't even have SoundHound installed.. probably just the Store being whacky.

When I open Play Store with one that has 7 updates, it has UPDATE block available. The one with 2 App updates does not. shrug
