**mod note**
Since the move to the XF forum software, this thread is no longer relevant.

Installed the newest vbSEO which includes the likes system. It is pretty nice. We can change the heart icon if we want, and put buttons in place of the "like/dislike" wording in each post.

We may even be able to remove the thanks system later. Or, run them side by side indefinitely, i'm not opposed.

So...

You should see "Like" in the bottom right corner of posts now. You can use this to "Like" a post.

Once a thread has started to accumulate likes, it will then start to show a "<3 LIkes" icon at the top of the thread when viewed. You can click this to see how many likes it has, and how many per post.

You can sort by the "Top" likes.

So, basically you can click this on long threads to see which posts have made the most impact, and click to jump right to it.

Easier than skimming the whole thread for large amounts of thanks to find good content.

Attached is what you see when clicking the "<3 Likes" at the top of a thread, as it expands down. (This picture is taken from a different forum so I could show one in use)

I used the "Staff Update!" thread to show an example:

http://androidforums.com/site-updates-announcements/532752-staff-update.html

We'll run this a while and see what we think. :)

Awe! Awesome. ~＠^_^＠~

I remember back then when I opened a "thread" on said topic. I'm happy to see that it has been implemented. Sometimes I rather give a "like" than a "thanks" in some thread|post.

I love the option of having both, if you don't mind. :)

The heart icon looks fine to me. Maybe others would think differently, though.

Though, the notifications per like might drive people insane.
We will be notified every time someone like our post? o_O hmm!

After observing where the "like" button is, I would suggest placing it amongst the other buttons below. ™

Judging by first impressions, it sounds like this new system covers everything Thanks do and more. If we gave it a proper button and showed total likes received under your avatar on posts, then the Thanks system becomes pretty much redundant.

Which raises the question of what to do with the Thanks system. Obviously we can't remove it, as nobody wants to lose all of that data. Could we port that data into the likes system? I'm guessing not. Could we remove the thanks button, but leave the rest of the system in tact? That still leaves the problem of having two redundant systems, but it would look neater, at least.

Ok, so I won't be using it as a way of bookmarking stuff I want to keep an eye on for Guide purposes then - don't want to increase the prominence of posts I have doubts about ;) .

I like thanks for lets call it street cred, but I like how the like thing highlights the useful posts in a thread.

I recall that was the original basis for the request for this.

There are many reasons to thank someone, but if someone posts a solution to some problem (that had thanks for steps along the way), the Like button will single that out.

Is the intention to replace the thanks system, or specifically for marking things as useful? Because if it's the later, maybe 'like' is a bit too vague of a term; at the moment they seem fairly interchangeable.

In longer threads it will highlight the useful posts, but I see your point. Maybe something like "Helpful Post."

I see this a "thanking" the post. I may be the dumbest person on a thread so my 2k+ thanks are meaningless, but a really good post in a root thread by a new user with 20+ likes will stand out. Especially with the link at the top that ranks the liked posts.

Just like thanks are an easily visible way to judge a user's contribution as a whole, likes are an easy way to judge a post's or thread's contribution.

I am with DaS on this one. It seems mostly redundant to me. At least having both systems is.

I also don't like that it doesn't work with Tapatalk. A lot of folks use that as the primary way to browse the forums, so for this to work (IMO) it would need TT to support it.

That said, if you removed thanks and added likes and the few forum apps that people use around here supported it, then I would be 100% behind it. (especially if you could transfer thanks to likes. But I am guessing that would be tough.) Especially if it fit with the theme of the rest of the forums.

I will support whatever is done in the end, just throwing in my two cents. ;)

How about a poll to see how many members like or dislike this feature.. In all fairness, if you don't like it...you dont...I appreciate your honesty. :)
We wouldn't have to use a poll if there were a corresponding "Don't like" button. EM, is there an option for that?

Edit:
Seriously, seems like an overlap in functionality to me. I think most people use the thanks button already when they like something.

+1 on all counts

Oh... and to be clear I only thanked the post. It seems too much to click both. :p
