Root ZTE U960 ROM Discussion

So do you have flashed first 2B06 with the online tool and then installed catty's 1.5.1 from the recovery ? Which problem did you have with 2B06 ROM ?

Oh so its possible to use 2b06 with catty 1.5.1 rom?

Okay so I read that you must use the oneclickupdater on xp, right?

And then I have to install clockwork again and root it again??? And after doing that flash catty 1.5.1 customrom?

With loose buttons I mean that the volume and on/off buttons on my phone are sitting loosely on the phone and not very solid (like that they only move when touched)

No, sorry, wrongly referenced 1.5.1 instead of Catty's 2B06 ram + OC.

You need to just follow The Solutor solution for 2B06 (OneClickUpdater + GApps/Root). Then install Catty's 2B06 ram/kernel OC.

I had to go through lots of other changes because the initial oneclickupdate failed and left me with unrooted, no accessible recovery and IMEI: 0.

Is it even possible to install 2B06 update and then flash catty 1.5.1 over it, or would it not make any difference?

Because 2B06 updates the baseband, it could very well make a difference

EDIT: Oh so you simply installed the 2B06 update and then flashed catty custom 1,4ghz and ram hack kernel?

Well I would prefer to leave the overclock away and simply install 2B06 with maybe a languagehack for german

Why did you get an IMEI error anywas? Didnt you install from an xp machine?

hey im having the same problem as another user here

When I turn on 3g for the sim2 it doesnt work anymore ?

What can I do guys? Can someone please provide the link for the baseband fix for sim2?

After what did you get this problem ? Personnaly, after I flash and update all the stuff, I always reset the phone completely in recovery. Then need to setup the phone again (at least, just reinstall Titanium backup to get back all the apps).

ok, I found a way. I think the fact that we have a dual sim makes things a bit more complex regarding IMEI. For instance, if you look at the Phone status in Android, the IMEI and IMEISV are provided as expected. So even if *#06# reports no IMEI, SMS and phone calls work as expected - I have tried calling myself and send text messages both ways :)

So there is a way to change the IMEI, but be carefull, DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. I am not responsible if you brick your phone.

You need to get QPST. Search google, download and install, then run. In QPST, start "Software Download" and backup to get a QCN file. This is just in case something goes wrong.
Once done, start "Service Programming". Read from the phone and you will see nothing for IMEI in TAC, FAC and SNR. On the back of your phone, you should have written the IMEI of the phone. IMEI = 6 + 2 + 6 digits (forget about the last one). This is what you should enter in TAC, FAC and SNR.
Then Write to Phone. It will reboot and bingo !!! Now, you have the IMEI with *#06# dial.
Finally, the OneClick update tool can now see the phone with no strange IMEI chinese popup :)

PS: if you are asked a code in QPST Service Programming, should be 000000. If that does not work, you will need to find the MSL code of your phone.

EDIT: PLEASE WAIT BEFORE DOING THIS. I WANT TO BE SURE EVERYTHING IS BACK AFTER APPLYING 2B06.

For all having IMEI: 0, this solution works well and everything works as expected. The phone really rocks now (setup Supercharger V6)

You can install the other ZTE_U960_kernel_2B06_ram390_catty which has no OC. Personally, I'll have to find a french lang pack, but I suspect I'll need to create it myself.

I think something went wrong on the first install (corrupted download maybe). I always used XP (and not a virtual machine).

I'm totally failed.I had traied everything. Maybe my phone is not rooted? How can I conviced about this and how can I rooted my phone?:mad::thinking::thinking:

Just an idea that might help you.
I assume that you can't enter the recovery. Why don't you put the phone into FTM mode and try to flash a custom recovery? Maybe that could work, then you would have a working recovery.

can any body tell me what is *983*06#and what is oneclickupdater.

The code will tell you the MAC address of the Bluetooth adapter (and lets you change it too!).
The one click updater is the official update method from ZTE, much like a RUU for HTC. Basically it is an application that will update/downgrade your phone to another version of the installed OS

i m very sorry that i dont understand this post
http://androidforums.com/4380734-post370.html it is embarrassment to me.
i m crazy to use 2b06 rom.why not 2b06 rom in zip file type.can i install 2b06 rom through recovery?

OneClickUpdater program is very easy to use and has been done for people who are not familiar with ROM updates. The issue is that you must use a Windows XP machine to make it work. At the moment, there is no .zip file to use to upgrade through recovery for 2B06.

The Solutor posted a nice and detailed post to explain this. The problem is only when things don't work.

All existing rooting tools don't work with Android 2.3.5 and above. There is only one good way to unroot:
1) Install the Android SDK and all related drivers (works under XP, Vista, Seven) to have access to the device using "adb".
2) Ensure adb does not execute on the PC and reboot the phone completely.
3) When the phone is rebooted, dial *983*8421# so that the phone provides adb with root permissions.
4) Start adb on the PC
5) Now you need to do as the zergRush exploit, except that there is no need to run the exploit itself :) so just:
- install Busybox
- install su
- install Superuser.apk
6) Reboot and you are done, phone rooted.

Additionally, if the recovery is not there, once you are rooted, you can install/flash Clockworkmod recovery.

PS: maybe you can also run the usual root tools as long as adbRoot is started on the phone, but I have not tested this.

How can I backup my IMEI Number?

Before I want to install 2B06 I want my IMEI numbers saved

There is no way to just backup the IMEI other than writing it somewhere... although it's already writen on the back of the phone and should match the number you get when dialing *#06# for IMEI display.

I have explained in a previous post how to recover the IMEI on the phone using QPST. I used it also to backup the nvram of the phone in case something goes wrong.

What I don't understand is that using 2 antennas should use 2 IMEI numbers, but only one is written on the phone. And even though the update failed for me for 2B06 giving IMEI: 0, the phone still works with 2 SIM cards (and for instance, I use the same Mobile provider for both SIM, one for work and one for Personal 3G).

In rooting, updating ROMs, baseband and stuff, there is always a part of risk you need to accept.

ok thanks to solutor but u not tell me the procedure of 2b06 istallation.i told u i did not understand this post http://androidforums.com/4380734-post370.html
how i install 2b06 through windows xp machine.or please upload this 2b06 installation procedure through windows xp machine on YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

#1 Download, decompress and install the one click updater (archive's password is "zte_u960"): I think this is self explanatory enough !

#2 replace the file RF.ZTE with the one I've uploaded here
The file location is usually C:\Program Files\ZTE\DL_U960_CMCC_CHN_EU\version\) but the location could be slightly different depending on Windows' language and drive installation: this is just a simple copy file operation.

#3 Start the update process using the previously installed updater. Just click !!

#4 If the process went trough correctly (dial *983*154# to check your actual version) and the phone rebooted correctly, you can turn it off and reboot it in recovery mode (turn it ON keeping the power button and Volume UP depressed) and apply the update package I prepared to get the phone rooted and gapps installed in one step: just download the Gapps+root.zip file, put it on the sdcard and from the recovery, do an "update from .zip".

#5 you can (optionally) flash also one of Catty's mod kernels to get the 1.4Ghz overclock and init.d function (see the linked post), is better to wipe the phone after this step to avoid market problems: as easy as update from zip.

#6 If, after the flashing process, the USB function of the phone doesn't work as expected (E.g., no USB storage available), you may need to use the set mode utility to switch it back to its original behavior. (select the option on the left and confirm with the button on the left): you can instead just dial *983*87274# to change the Usb Setting (first option).
