I'm coming from an OG EVO and I used the flashlight app a LOT on my phone. (Just quicker and easier than looking for a flashlight when I needed one). I was surprised the HTC one wasn't on the new phone, so I went looking for it.

If anyone else wants to get it for your phone, just make sure you set up your HTC account (so you'll have access to everything in HTC Hub), then once you are in HTC Hub click on Applications >> Categories A-Z >> HTC Essentials. You'll find the Flashlight app there if you want it. Also in there is a LinkedIn app and the Teeter game.

Thanks. I didnt see it yesterday and downloaded a nice one from the Market. It is called Tiny Flashlight + LED. Thought I was losing my mind that they would take away such a small, but nice feature.

+1 been using this one since evo 3D and its done the trick. It even stays on when you put the screen to sleep. Highly recommend!

I never used the HTC flashlight app. However, I used the TeslaLED flashlight app, as triggered by a slider on my lockscreen (Widget Locker) ALL the time. It is a much more efficient method of accessing the flashlight IMO (directly from the lockscreen).

That's a feature I like from MIUI ROMS. Hold home on the lockscreen and there's your flashlight

If you long press to add an app, choose "widgets," access the pulldown menu to change it from "all widgets" to "flashlight," bingo bango HTC flashlight app shortcut.

If anyone is looking for a non HTC Hub, non third party application solution there are two side doors of sorts that can be used.

One is to open the camera and begin recording a video and then activate the Flash (tap the 'A' in the top corner of the screen). The downside is that it creates a pointless wasteful video you will have to be sure to delete from the gallery.

The second is much less elegant, efficient, feature rich, and certainly is not for everyone, but it can get the job done.
Click show if interested:
*Be careful when poking around in these menus

On your phone open the dialer, like you are going to dial the phone number of a friend. Instead dial *#*#3424#*#* (*#*#DIAG#*#*). It will take you to the HTC Function Test application (v3.01.01g). On the white screen, press accept and look for the "Flashlight Test". Press the check box and hit 'run' and it will take you through a test of the rear facing LED used for the camera (as opposed to the notification LED underneath the speaker grille). This will allow you to simply turn on and turn off the LED and light up your life. ;)

(Anyone familiar with HTC's Function Test application, will notice they have updated it and added more tests with Sense 4.0 )

I want to DL the flashlight from HTC hub and I wanted to know if that's the HTC flashlight and what is the difference between that and other app flashlights?

The Flashlight app in HTC hub is the one that would have been on any of your old HTC devices. It would be the one your used to. Theres not a whole lot of differences between flashlight apps, they just use the camera flash LED's to light up an area.

Does the HTC EVO 4G LTE come with a flashlight app? My old EVO 4G used to have a nice HTC flashlight app, but I don't see it on the new phone?

I searched, and people refer to the HTC Hub and looking under the category of "Essential Apps". But nothing like that is available in HTC Hub. Did HTC just throw away the flashlight and expect us to get an ad-supported or paid flashlight? I feel like that is causing my phone to miss some functionality, as flashlight functionality is like essential hardware functionality, not just some app to make my screen do something?

I don't see it in hub anymore either but I have it installed. If I were you I'd download a custom Rom such as meanrom and pull it out of the zip and install from your sd card

Regarding Post #13

that one doesnt work so well on the EVO LTE

but this one works great!!
Enjoy!!!

I will agree to an extent. It is an issue of sensing the touch I think. You have to figure out where the "real" on off button is....hahaha. It seems to be above and to the left of the one on the screen....at least on mine... Once I figured that out mine works fine.
