Root Will being rooted affect Verizon's 2.1 update?

I am currently rooted and running AdamZ's SG 6.0 ROM, but I think I will revert back to my old image running stock 2.0.1 prior to the 2.1 release.

I am rooted though and am curious about how the update will affect the phone. Will I be able to update as normal even though I am rooted and have a different recovery image (SPRecovery 3b) than the stock one?

i understand that if you are just rooted without a custom rom it will just unroot you.
If you have a custom rom it should block the update. You should not update if you have a custom rom loaded.

Correct... read this thread: http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/53863-soooo-2-1-switch-anyone.html

If your running a custom rom.... there's really no good reason to go back. Unless your a glutin for punishment.. ;). Everything your running now is in the OTA.... plus a lot more.

SPRecovery 0.99.3b automatically blocks OTA updates. That's why you have to hit "allow update.zip" every time before you can actually install one.
Ah, I am running the 3b right now so it would download and I'd have to let it install by booting to recovery anyway?

Is everyone sure it will un-root you? Not like rooting is difficult anyway unless they have to change the root process again.

I'd basically like to know this because I'd like to capture a Nandroid recovery image of the stock 2.1 update for "just-in-case purposes". If running the update will "un-root" and I have to wait for some other root vulnerability to appear and be exploited by devs in order to regain root, then there's no way I'd ever try this. If any dev here knows if we'll lose root by running the OTA, can you let us know?

Thanks!

Yes it will unroot you, and you don't need to get the OTA anyway. ESE53 IS THE OTA and we already have it in SBF form untouched and completely stock if that's your thing. You won't be able to re root using the same process as before, you will either have to wait for a new method or use the 2.0.1 SBF to flash back and then root from there the old way.

I will say this again, WE ALREADY HAVE THE OTA UPDATE. If you doubt this then just go and look at the VZW pdf and you will see the name of the update is indeed ESE53.

Thanks, CRP.

I'll leave it as is....

Btw, can you answer a question I have in the metamorph thread?

That's pretty much the consensus. We've been saying it for months.

There's a root exploit for the current ESE53 .sbf, but it will most likely be patched in the OTA version.

ESE53 was able to be rooted because we had the actual sbf so rooting it was as simple as opening the sbf and putting the su binaries in then packaging it back up and flashing it. You can't root it using the old exploit though, they patched that.

And don't worry about losing root with the OTA. You can just flash the 2.0.1 sbf and then root using the old exploit. Since it is so easy to do that I doubt anyone will bother to find a new exploit.
