Droid is now 2.1

I'd love 2.1, but I'd rather that they wait until it's as good as possible than to rush something to meet an artificial deadline.

That said, I think that the Droid getting 2.1 is good news for the Eris. Since the Droid is Verizon's big device right now, I was completely certain that Verizon would not roll out the Eris 2.1 update before the Droid's even if the Eris update was ready, as it would look really bad that the $199 phone had 2.0.1 while the $79 phone had 2.1.

it also says that " Leaked documentation indicates we'll see this start to get rolled out in batches of 250,000 at a time starting on Thursday -- not too long of a wait (unless you're in the very last batch, that is)." which I am guessing means that we won't get it THIS week lol. I know this is my first post, but i just happened to be on engadget and be on here at the same time and thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. I'm ordering the Eris on thursday with my "New every 2" deal! Can't wait!!

The leaked version will be the release version. This is as good as it gets for now. Updates and fixes will come in the next few months.

Edit: Pure speculation and arrogance my dear.

I totally agree with you, because I remember how buggy the original 1.5 was when we first got these phones.

Maybe they'll fix the log-in-after-reboot bug, but I bet it still has every other reported issue, especially since most only exist for a portion of users.

I will all but guarantee they fix the Facebook Sync problem, the Log-In bug, the Force Closes here and there, the USB icon appearing in the notification bar at random, until you select a 'Use as Default' for one of the options on the list, the laggy dialer, the Calendar showing all-day events the day BEFORE an event is, and so on.

It won't be the final release. No way.

I'm nearly certain that would be their plan.

As long as the update is ready. I do understand that they don't want to give it to Eris users before the Droid users. And as long as ours is ready, they should be able to send it OTA as soon as they are done with the people who bought the expensive, ugly phones.

I just hope ours is ready. I don't care if I lose my contacts -- they are all backed up anyway. I hope they aren't holding off until they solve that little problem.
