Issues that the HTC Evo v could be another Triumph

I've been looking up reviews and such with the HTC Evo 3d on Sprint. Apparently there are a lot of issues with it. Look at this for example.

I've also read about dust getting under the screen very easily, much like the triumph. I heard that they discontinued the HTC Evo 3D's on Sprint. So maybe we're getting old replacements? There's even a repair guide for the already broken ones.

Maybe we're just getting the leftovers afterall. I mean I was told I'd get a brand new class A triumph in the mail multiple times. Every time though, they'd send me a severely broken class C. It is Virgin Mobile after-all..

But after seeing these issues, I think I've changed my mind from really wanting this phone, to just getting the Galaxy Nexus and switching to straighttalk. Take a look at these links and tell me what your thoughts are about this phone now.

As far as issues with the 3VO goes, what phone doesn't have a mind of its own lol. I highly doubt we are getting refurbished phones, the 3VO has spent its time on Sprint and only discontinued it because they are handing it down to Virgin Mobile. You really think that they would keep it on Sprint's lineup if Virgin Mobile had it? Why would someone sign a contract with Sprint if they knew Virgin Mobile had the same device and didn't have to get into a 2 year bind with a phone carrier plus being cheaper and knowing that Virgin Mobile runs off of Sprints network. On another note as far as dust under screen, its hard to tell what people are doing to these phones when they use them. ie "My touchscreen isn't working properly?" Why? "I don't know why, I may have dropped it a couple times." See my point...Its not another Triumph the 3VO isn't re-branded like the Triumph was, you know your getting a true HTC device. I've been through 3 Triumph's within a month and a half all of them being class A phones (sending it new in the box) the third one I got seemed to be a keeper, but still had issues with the GPS. You are always going to get the few that complain about a phone no matter how great or awesome it is...
on a positive note at least the 3VO has more good reviews on it and the fact that people are still keeping their 3VO despite the new EVO LTE...

A couple things folks...

1. This isn't the place for bickering, so let's not argue about things that don't have to do with the subject of this thread. This thread is not about Triumph replacements and issues people had with that. It is about possible issues with the Evo V 4g, based on reviews from the Evo 3D.

2. This device has not been released, it's pretty hard to see exactly how it will be handled by the manufacturer at this point. HTC may have a very good track record, but I wouldn't guarantee that they will support this as much as other devices until we see them do so.


I would be very wary of jumping to any conclusions about this device until people actually have it. Some test devices have been reviewed and that sort of thing, but it is not the same as thousands of people actually buying it and using it in the real world. So let's wait and see how things turn out and not get into arguments about how the device will be when it hasn't been released yet.

Yeah, That's what I was wondering. That video was uploaded 2-3 months after the phone's release. The Evo 3D Received 2 improvement updates since then, not to mention the ICS update it may get in a little bit. So I think that any software issues that were present before are going to be gone with ICS and Sense 3.6.

Yeah. Hopefully they worked on it a little bit and fixed the digitizer problems they were having. We can all find out with the 30 day return policy. lol

I think they discontinued it because the "3D" aspect never really caught on. So it's a sorta gimmicky medium-high end phone that people won't want to pay for when there are other non-3D alternatives. On VM, though, it's a dual-core phone with a big display, and access to a new data network. What was a mediocre choice that got pruned from the lineup on Sprint, is a home-run on VM.

VM has no other dual-core phones. They have no other ICS phones. And they have no other qHD phones, though that's not a huge improvement over the Triumph. And apparently the 3D isn't much better in direct sun than the Triumph.

They still sell the Optimus S and the Optimus Elite on Sprint, even though VM has the same phone. So I don't think there's any stigma with having overlapping devices.

It seems like a crap shoot for support, though. Presumably HTC will care more about keeping it up to date? But is that really true when it's a lowish volume phone on a pre-paid carrier that most people haven't heard of? Why should it be different than the Triumph? Obviously Motorola releases fixes for their Verizon phones, but for some unknown reason they don't bother with the Triumph. Who knows if the Evo V 4G will be the same. Maybe they don't bother because VM doesn't go to bat to get the devices fixed? Or maybe Moto sucks and HTC doesn't?

Like agentc13 said, Instead of comparing it to the MT, think about the issues with the Evo 3D and then once you get the phone look for those issues. The MT and this phone will be completely different so comparing the two just doesn't work.

Were seeing more from VM, such as claimed "Customer support improvements", Roaming, more devices, etc. so I think that by the end of the year, all VM customers will be pretty satisfied with what they are getting with a prepaid service.

Man if they didn't learn their lesson after the Triumph what can I say.. With the dev support the 3D has had I'm not worried about any little fixes it may need it's the prospect of a cheaply made neutered 3D that make's me wake up screaming in the night....

Otherwise, I would like the thread to get back on topic with concerns of the Evo V build quality. Which I would suspect is no better, nor any worse, than any other device. The Evo V might even have an advantage in the fact that it's been in production for a year already.

Lol Yep that and any one with a old Sprint Evo 3D could leave a review as a Evo V 4G owner as it's the same handset just a dif rom and carrier now..

No I didn't realize people were reviewing it on VM's site... :facepalm: How does the general pulic review something that hasn't been released to them? Yea... Why is VM even accepting them? That should be the real question...

You guys are really paranoid. First, the evo 3d is still for sale in every store I've been in lately. It's a year old, and still on all the displays. And second, why would you think they could sell refurbed evo's as new? They can't. Now if you're a serial exchanger, then it makes sense that you would get a refurb. They can't afford to just keep sending new phones to everyone because their wifi didn't work once, or they dropped it. I don't know how some of you guys do it, sending back a phone 4, 5, 6, or more times, it's kinda crazy. I think after the first couple I'd get the hint that this isn't working out...

Anyway I for one am looking forward to getting my hands on this phone, it won't be the greatest phone available, and I don't expect it to be. But it will be the best phone virgin has ever had by a long shot. The one x costs $700 out of contract, so this is pretty much a perfect compromise imo - a one-year-behind-top-tier phone for much less money, both for the phone and plan. Kind of what I've been wanting out of virgin since I got lured in by the $25 plan. But I am an optomist... maybe it will SUCK!!! Nah...

I cannot wait to post here- I've been through hell and back, and as of now- I've had my HTC "3VO" (great nickname...) for 40 hours- and it's shutdown and restarted or froze over 20 times... (& yes I had the Triumph too (5 units)...
