Help time clock only accurate when connected to cell service

I have an optimus v virgin mobile phone but am now in south american (peru) and using it soley for the wifi benefits. Problem is it most often thinks iys January 1980 and has very random very incorrect times that effect the useage of many applications and synchronions....

Once in awhile the phone does decide to retun to California time but this is rare. I also had this problem when in the USA but in rural areas....

Thoughts for a solution?

Strange problem.... Are you rooted and romed? If your on cm7 you can try running it in Airplane mode and wifi will still work. Next time you see it on the proper Time try turning airplane mode on to see if it sticks.. Don't know if it'll work but it's what I'd try.

basically the phone uses the network time and date. without network service locking in gps location will not work. try an independent 3rd party app for clock and alarm. as far as network is concerned there is little that can be done

Hmm, when I travel in Europe (which has no CDMA networks whatsoever) GPS works just fine. I have logged very precise tracks and waypoints using GPS Essentials in Iceland and other countries, e.g. GPS also plays well with offline mapping apps, incl. MapDroyd and even the experimental offline feature in Google Maps.

On the original issue: yes, the time will not be auto-adjusted outside of CDMA coverage. For me, it stays a few weeks at the last U.S. timezone I was in (with only minimal drift), only to eventually reset to January 1980 and restart from there.

I looked into this during my first overseas trip and found that at least in Android 2.2, there was no way to manually set the time (when not rooted.)
